Favorites: Duck Breast and Buttermilk beignet.
It is an upscale restaurant but not too fancy or pricy. Food is delicious there.
Great restaurant with chill vibes, spacious interiors and a nice outdoor patio.
The wine selection is good and the food is excellent.
Don’t skip the panna cotta as dessert 🍮
Delicious meal that is upscale but still reasonably priced considering the quantity and quality of food you're getting. Ordered a smattering of dishes from snails, oysters, cheese plate for appetizers. Each one was very light delicate, not large portion size but still filling and very flavorful.
The entrees on the other hand were the star of the show. Big portions, proteins executed to perfection and the 38 North Duck Breast is absolutely to die for. Huge whole duck breast, perfectly cooked medium rare, crispy crackling skin, soft tender meat but juicy despite the lean cut. Would come back solely for that dish.
Desserts were also impeccable with traditional French preparations. Croissant bread pudding, chocolate pudding, Apple tart. Each one very unique but well executed in preparation.
Service was very friendly and food came pretty quickly.
Was able to make a same day reservation without trouble for 4 people and the restaurant is quite large. Parking lot outside makes it easy to not have to hunt for parking in downtown San Jose but we did take the last parking spot so try to come a little early just in case.
Black Sheep Brasserie is a fancy looking restaurant that is still dressed up but not beyond fancy for a dinner out. The location has parking spots reserved for visitors right to the East of the building, so no need to park farther away. It is only an 8 minute drive from downtown San Jose. We thought that the bread was a 3/5 as it was hard and tasted a bit old for the price. The gnocchi, however, was definitely a 5/5 and tasted great, though a little burnt on some pieces. Wished that the dish was a little bigger for the price though. Would definitely make an effort to visit again.
Delicious food. Vegetarian friendly options available. Good portions for their small plates. Had the grilled mushroom entree, mussels and gnocchi small plates and the bread pudding for dessert that you see in the pictures. We both left very full.
Service was great. The only thing is the outside ambiance could be better to elevate the experience.
We were celebrating and they were kind enough to offer us some complimentary sparkling wine which we appreciated!
The food here is excellent. The duck breast was well prepared. I noticed however that the waiters were in a rush to take the plates away while we were eating. So we had to ask them twice not to take the food. For such a nice restaurant it is a given that you would like to enjoy your evening and therefor you do not want to be rushed.
There were so many delicious options on the menu that we decided to try a little of everything and skip the entrees. Everything was delicious and would recommend. Only critique is that the beer tartare needed a little more salt to balance the richness of the double egg. Our server was also very attentive and really sweet - would go back!
Went there for a birthday dinner. Service and staff was very good, attentive and not intrusive. For drinks got the French 75 and the Japanese cocktail - they both were excellent. Ordered the Manresa baguette and potatoes for appetizers. The baguette was just $4 - wow, basically no markup!! It was excellent but the potatoes were average. For entree's we got the onion soup, ribs and the salmon. The soup was very not overloaded with cheese - perfect for me. Some may say it isn't the "standard" but I don't like it too cheesy; it was rich in taste and easily be half your entree. The ribs were ok, nothing to write up about. My fellow diner liked her salmon. Since it was a birthday, they gave us a complimentary dessert but we also got the bread pudding - both were excellent! Overall a good place and would recommend trying it out.
We got steak, duck breast, cod and mushrooms for entrees. Have to be honest, the mushrooms dish is our favorite. Duck breast is also very delicious. The steak and cod are good but not impressive. Very cool vibe, family friendly.
Food here is tasty, yummy cocktails, and service was great. I only gave 4 stars as the Summer melon salad was basically an overpriced fruit salad of cantaloupe and honey dew melons. The plates are tasty but very small portions. I had the lamb which was cooked to perfection and so flavorful. The bread pudding was delicious as well. Wine list is kind of pricey, so if your on a budget and want a good bottle may want to bring your own for a $20 corkage fee.
