Review Garbo's Grill - Key West

CJ Mart
We went for happy hour to grab a couple drinks and to try the famous Korean beef tacos. We got the the taco trio happy hour special and the sliders - all so delicious! We tried to get another round of tacos not realizing it was a few minutes past 6pm but we were told we couldn’t. But overall we loved the patio and the live music was great! Definitely recommend and make sure you order everything before happy hour ends!

Came to experience the tacos as we saw this as as an interesting discovery. It is a a cool food truck at the back of Hanks. Order food from the truck. They provide you a buzzer and you sit at Hanks bar which is a cool live music experience bar also! Setup a tab for drinks at Hanks and they buzz you when the food is ready. I sampled the shrimp tacos and my buddy had the Korean beef. Shrimp tacos were awesome. Fresh juicy and plump shrimp with lots of flavour. Definitely would come back. Friend said Korean beef tacos were delicious also.

Very cool little spot in the back of Hanks. I make at least one trip here everytime I come to key west as it is well worth it. The food is unique and the portions are fantastic. Highly recommend the KBBQ burrito/tacos and the umami burger/sliders. Don't forget to ask for the local or military discount. You won't be disappointed in this food!

Great experience here for lunch. We stopped by and had tacos (I got the fish tacos and my wife got Korean beef). Both were excellent and really generous portions. They will customize orders (mine was more spicy) and service was fast. Food truck is in the back and they do all the food orders, the bar is in the front and both bartenders I talked to were really nice and gave fast service. Only thing I wish we would have known ahead of time is that happy hour is 4-6 pm and they have specials. We went for a late lunch and ordered at about 340 so didn't realize it until after the fact.

Cool vibes! Open air but plenty of fans, love music, bar with a/c but only a few seats. Food truck/trailer where you order in the back. Limited menu but great food, fresh, flavorful! Drinks are great as well! Off the busy path and worth the stop.

Amazing food! Been going here for years now. Garbo's started out in a parking lot down the street, then moving then their location down at Hanks in the back area. Eventually, they were put right up front by the main entrance of Hanks!. Their foods are fresh, delicious, and come in huge portions. If you're not a fan of spicy foods, make sure to mention that to the worker and they can hold spicy items the best they can. Overall their happy hours are the best to stop by and get a sample of their entire menu. Especially ordering the Taco trio and the umami sliders can give alot of diversity in taste. The Garbos experience also comes hand in hand with Hanks! A fantastic bar with a comfortable and relaxing outdoor/courtyard vibe. Plenty of fun and live music to enjoy throughout the day. If you're in Key West, this is a must-go for places to grab a bite to eat!

The Korean BBQ tacos were awesome! The servers were nice! My husband got a lobster roll though and was severely lacking the lobster for the price! He felt like he got taken advantage of. For two people we paid $45 with no drinks and felt like he should have gotten more. The live music is a plus!

Lobster roll, umami burger and the Korean BBQ tacos are all delicious!! If you want a sweet treat after get a key lime colada from Hanks!

We ordered pick up, we had the Korean tacos and spicy mango hot dog. Both the tacos and mango dog were delicious. Highly recommended.

Hidden gem in the heart of Key West on a quiet street off Duvall. I had an awesome all beef National hotdog sitting in a courtyard of a canopy trees and an on-site full service bar. My only disappointment would be not having spicy mustard and having to use yellow, at the price of a frank I'd like to put what I like on it. Filtered water is available for adults and your pooches.

January 29, 2018 · by willoughbyandy · in Burgers, Florida, Latin American, Southeast · Leave a comment. On our day of food in Key West, we shopped and ate our way down DuVal Street. We had our first lunch, of a wonderful lobster roll at DJs Clam Shack, and about two hours later we had arrived for second lunch. Garbo’s Grill is another Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives find, housed in a food truck behind a bar.

The food was flavorful and freshly prepared. Service was quick and helpful. Don't be intimidated by the Lando...get it! The Korean BBQ was amazing.

The bulgolgi tacos alone are worth the trip, easily the best meal I've found after 2 months of living in key west. The fish tacos weren't worth it, no real taste to them. Hamburgers were a little dry but good. Great outdoor seating. Little expensive and I'd have to try more but this place could easily be a 4.5 with a few more dishes on the bulgolgi taco level. I loved the real cane sodas as well. Black cherry and rootbeer.

Wonderful (2) korean tacos for under $11 at a foodcart with shady outdoor seating. It sits behind a bar/restaurant called "Grunts" and is just barely visible from the street. They give you a pager to let you know when your food is done. I am guessing that you can get an adult beverage from Grunts (although we did not), which seems to share the lovely outdoor courtyard. Hand sanitizer sits on the table as a nice convenience. We enjoyed it.

Please try the Korean taco… You will wet your pants it is so so good! Simple elegant just really really good can't say enough about it. Take the food and even the bar excellent!

Saw this little gem on Triple D. The umami burger was on point! It was very filling and the taste lasted forever. Short wait time and location was peaceful.

This is must stop! This was featured on food network triple D and those places look hit or miss, but this was really good. We had the Korean bulgogi tacos and Cayo's fish burrito and not were amazing. The fish was very moist. The sweetness of the bulgogi paired with the spicy toppings, so good. This is a perfect example of picking a few things and doing them well!

Best Korean BBQ (Bulgogi) burrito I have ever had. Great little place on Key West island. The guy cooking road a nice vintage BSA too.

Hell yes!. Long story short: Wow!!
Here's the longer version: Barely any waiting time and everything in their short menu sounded amazing. I got the Korean Bulgogi and it was fantastic. This was the best borrito I've ever had and the service greets with with a smile!
L Thatch
So freakin' good and pretty spicy! They get busy and there isn't much seating but things move quickly!
Adam
The best beef taco I've ever had. The shrimp is amazing and the service is impeccable.

Delicious Korean Tacos. Garbo's Grill is a food trailer located on the property of Grunts Bar on Caroline St. I ordered the Korean BBQ tacos and I was asked if a 30 minute wait would be okay. I said it would be okay and I took my food pager with me over to The Porch beer & wine bar across the street where I enjoyed a nice red ale. I came back to Garbo's just in time for my pager to go off but under the 30 minute time limit. I took my 2 tacos in a basket into Grunts where Jenni took care of my beer order. There was a funky 2 piece band playing. A guy singing and playing the bongos while another guy played a guitar with a pick-up. I just enjoyed my fresh wonderfully prepared Korean tacos inside the cool vibe of Grunts. Jenni told me to come back and try the Yum Yum shrimp tacos and I will be taking her up on her advice. Thanks for dinner guys!

Disappointment. I must say i was looking so forward to trying out Garbo's Grill but after 3 strikes i'm out. I checked their Facebook page and when we got there they were closed. Hours did not match what they say. Second time, same thing. Third time, they were closed.
Not good if you ask me.... if you advertise the hours, stick to them so we can try your food.

Korean BBQ Tacos. Saw this with Guy Fieri on Food Network and I can't stop thinking about it! Looks amazing.
These guys know how to cook!

I have absolutely no idea what the hype is all about. Sorry but I don't get it. This place is not 1 out of however many restaurants there are in Key West. It may not even the best street food that you can find on the island but it somehow makes it to the top of the list for reasons that I just cannot fathom.

Basically this place is a food truck with a few tables and chairs in a yard. When we went there, we saw 3 people within the "truck" - one taking orders and then two preparing the food. The menu was incredibly simple with only a few items on it. As we do not consume beef, I believe there were only two or three items that we could have ordered from and those were either tacos or burritos. (The same dish could be served as two tacos or as a larger burrito.) That being the case, between my wife and I, we ordered a fish burrito and shrimp taco. Oddly enough for a food truck, we were told that there would be a wait time of at least 30-35 minutes before we got our food.

We decided to wait in a bar adjoining the food truck and ordered a drink each for ourselves. It was after we were done with our drinks and 35 - 40 minutes from the time we had ordered that we got our food. All of the wait and the spartan environment would have been worth it if the food had blown our mind but that wasn't the case. In fact, quite far from it. Both the burrito and the tacos came in flour tortillas that had not been grilled at all and they tasted exactly like flour tortillas taken out of a packet might taste like. The filling itself was very average and as we had our lunch, we were left scratching our heads as to why this place was as hyped up as it had been. Also worth noting is that though the cashier had said that the burritos were just a slightly bigger version of the tacos, they turned out to be a lot bigger and had we known that, we would have ordered two burritos rather than 1 burrito and 1 taco.

Other than food, service is something also one pays attention to and there was little service offered given that it's a glorified food truck. What is inexcusable though is that the people at the truck seemed rude. The reason I say this is because when somebody later on in the line asked if it would take him less than 40 minutes to get his food if he ordered in larger quantities (for his friends), the girl behind the counter (and I think one of the owners) replied curtly - "There are just the two of us preparing food and we won't be growing an extra pair of hands if you order more". I suppose the folks realize that with their excellent ratings (entirely undeserved in my opinion) they can afford to be rude and they will still have customers lining up outside of their truck and it is up to you to tell them that's not quite the case.

Having my lunch at this place was a good wake-up call for us to not just pay attention to how many stars a place has on Yelp or TA but to get a good sense of what we are getting ourselves into. I would definitely suggest that you avoid this place and prove that bad service with mediocre food doesn't quite cut it in Key West.

Great place to grab a good lunch, can't go wrong with anything here. My favorite is their Korean beef tacos. Perfect blend of sweet bulgolgi and a little spice sooo good. They are really friendly and a must try in key west, get there early or they get busy because they are that good.

We love this place both the Mahi and Korean BBQ tacos were awesome but surprisingly the after eating here a couple times I tried the burger and it was one of the best burgers I've ever had!
John Farrell
Fantastic! Best burger ever, and I've had them all. Chipotle smoked Gouda steam melted over a mound of bacon and perfectly-seared high quality beef was divine. Saw them on DDD, did not disappoint!
Loves2fly
My husband and I ordered the burger. High priced and just so-so. Nothing spectacular here folks. Hardee's is comparable. Would not go back.
My Next Meal
Go! Eat the Korean beef tacos. Super delish! Very friendly staff.

We had the fish tacos. Large serving & very flavorful. It's an outdoor cart, so If you are hot & want to sit in a chair this is probably not where you want to go. Fun little spot though.

My new favorite place to eat. Seriously good food...so seriously good we ate here three times during our stay in Key West. The Korean beef tacos were out of this world and I would have gone back every day of our stay to eat these had they been open the last weekend of our trip! From the fresh jalapeños and mango to the deliciously spicy sauce, each flavor profile in this dish worked together in glorious harmony to transport me to my own culinary nirvana with every bite.

The staff were out of this world friendly and chatted to is each time we came. Out of this world food served up by great people.

We will undoubtedly be back; until then my stomach is growling in anticipation.

Amazing. The first food "truck" I've ever eaten from and loved it. Clean, delicious, excellent service and just awesome! Korean BBQ tacos and KP Jerk Quesadilla--hot, sweet, and yummy!

Cool place. Locals and lucky tourists like myself that know about it. Very friendly, talking up their food. Delicious. Filling and Very Reasonable.

Fantastic food!!! Great price. If you enjoy quality and flavor this is the food truck for you. Probably the best fish tacos I have ever had.
Sophie
The best mahi mahi tacoas I've ever had! Best best best!!!

Alright, so high expectations met with little results. Both the tacos and burritos are over "filled" with cabbage, and at $10 I would expect a bit more substance. Owners are great and have a perfect location. If you go, challenge them to do better as Garbos deserves to be a must for traveling foodies, but isn't there quite yet.

Great Ideas. Stopped by in June whiile on the island. Extremely friendly and some wonderful food ideas. I especially liked the idea of the hot dog with grilled onions, bacon and grilled mango. The fish buritto didn't pan out as well for me. To be fair, I bought both to go and transported them back accross the island under the seat of my scooter. Both were a little (maybe more than a little) soagy from being steamed on the way. I'm sure much better eaten right off the grill. I will be stealing the hot dog idea for eating at home....that's for sure. Will stop by again and try things on site!!!

Key West at it's best!. You come to Key West for FUN & FOOD & wild atmosphere! Garbo's has all three in ON A CART ! The day we stopped in the menu was mango hot dogs ( to die!) Caribbean chicken (divine!) and fish tacos (didn't try, but other people were oohing and aahhing). Our server/cook was adorable and upbeat and wearing goofy sunglasses with palm trees attached. We had a great meal and a great time and highly recommend Garbo's.

I would love to review the food at what appears to be a tropical roach coach, but the operator actually couldn't be bothered to stop her phone conversation about whether or not someone was asleep. I kid you not.

We waited while she talked about absolutely nothing at all, then finally gave up and walked away. She sent us on our way with a cheerful, "Sorry, guys!"

She's obviously fan enough of herself without needing our approval.

***UPDATE***
The owner/operator of Garbo's contacted me a few hours after I posted this review, explaining that she was on the phone dealing with a family situation, and that while taking care of her customers is an absolute priority for her, her family comes first.

I agreed with her that her family should come first, but that she could have said something like, "I'm sorry, but I really have to take this call," or, "This is really important, could you come back in five minutes?" rather than basically (as it seemed to us) ignoring us. She agreed that she could have handled it differently.

It just seemed to us that an employee of Garbo's (we're visiting, we don't know local institutions) was having a bland personal conversation and was ignoring a couple who were over-tired and -heated. It was a perfect storm of miscommunication.

She offered us a free entree to make up for the confusion. Unfortunately, we were only in town for the day.

Good find!. Great fish burrito, great mango smoothie! Decent prices (especially for Key West), but limited seating as it is simply a small roadside stand. Food was very fresh and the server had a great personality. Glad we went!

You have to visit this taco stand. Heidi makes amazing mahi mahi fish burritos. A food critic herself, she is also able to offer you great recommendations on other local establishments. If you are into hot sauces then you will be in for a treat as she has the largest selection I've ever seen. A unique dining experience that you won't want to miss.

My mouth is watering as I am writing this! If you are in Key West, you definitely have to try this inexpensive spot. It is very sad that I only discovered this place on my last day or else, I would have tried every single thing on their menu by the time I left the Conch Republic.

Garbo’s Grill- I was overjoyed yet slightly pissed that we found this place on the last day of our vacation. Garbo’s Grill is a little food cart off Duval Street; still within the tourist-y area so you’re sure to get your kicks from people watching. Reading the short and simple menu was refreshing. I happily settled on the Korean BBQ tacos ($8) with marinated beef short rib, veggies (cabbage, scallion, carrots) and citrus soy
