If you’ve had sir pizza, then you need no explanation. If you’ve never had sir pizza, then no explanation will suffice, but I will try my best.
I grew up eating Sir Pizza, multiple times a week. I was a pretty big kid. Sirs makes one of the most unique pizzas I’ve ever had, and I’ve had pizza from all over, from New York to Hawaii and many places in between. There’s nothing quite like the sir pizza brand of pizza. To be up front: this is a small franchised chain. This is one of several locations I’ve eaten at. All taste perfectly the same. When I say a small franchised chain, I mean there’s a handful of Sir Pizza locations spread out over the Ohio river valley, and a couple in other states, as well as the parent company called Pizza King in Indiana with several locations as well(if you’re from Indiana, and are missing Pizza King, here’s your place to eat!).
First, the pizza is unique in many ways, not the least of which is that the toppings go all the way to the edge, there’s no “handlebar” crust to hold onto.
Secondly, the pizza is typically cut into a “party cut”, that is to say, the slices are square pieces, in a round pie, instead of the traditional “wedge” cut of a round pie.
Third, the crust has a great mixture of textures, the bottom is nice and firm and crispy, a fully loaded slice will still stay perfectly flat. But the upper portion of the crust is nice and chewy bread interior.
The sauce has an interesting flavor to it that can’t be described. It’s on the sweet side, but definitely has some good Italian herbal seasonings in it too.
The cheese is just right, thick enough to coat the pie, but not so thick is creates a gooey mess.
The toppings are generous, my favorite is pepperoni, which is one of their most unique aspects, they use ground pepperoni. Instead of sliced pepperoni, the ground pepperoni ensures that every bite has some meat in it. When asked for it to be well-done, the pepperoni gets a nice chart to the tips that only enhances the smokey pepperoni flavor.
Overall, sir pizza is, hands down, my favorite pizza place to eat at. There are others who make a “better pizza”, but not by much, and they usually all have the same traditional styles, whenever I visit a city that has a Sir Pizza (or a pizza king), I make it a point to stop in because the flavor is good, and because it’s such a unique experience that simply cannot be replicated anywhere else.
This is the original Pittsburgh area location, and the place I spent many nights having dinner over the years, and many hours playing the video games. This was a 10” pepperoni pie that was a perfect dinner to split with my wife.
The staff there is always super friendly, as well, and the location was well organized and has expanded a lot from when I used to live here. Note: because the pizza is identical, the review for this location and the Ross location will also be nearly identical, consider most of this as a review of the company as a whole.) Out of 14 nights in Pittsburgh, we chose to eat Sir Pizza 4 times, including one party at my aunt’s house where the entire family was thrilled when the pizza arrived.
For comparison sake, I’ve included 3 pictures, one from 2011, one from 2017, and one from 2022, to demonstrate the consistency of Sir Pizza.
