Was good. But waiter rushed us as soon as we sat down. Salsa chips are good. But had the small shrimp cocktail. Don't waste your money on that. Was shrimp, tomatoes and a few onions covered in ketchup. Sad and bad. Rest of food was good, traditional. But quesadillas needed more cheese in them. Hardly any in them. Chicken enchiladas with mole sauce were good. Pork al pastor were excellent.
The food was good. The fish was overcooked. The server was fantastic and nice. The other patrons who got up to leave as soon as they ordered brought the atmosphere of the entire place down.
You don't think you'll run into racism very often, but that pair was hateful and tried to make us feel uncomfortable on our trip.
I adore Galveston, but it's such a shame to run into that kind of a person in such a beloved restaurant.
This says nothing about the restaurant itself.
To the old Caucasian couple that left and had some nasty remarks for us, when we didn’t even acknowledge your existence, shame on you.
As far as the food, the beans were exactly how i remembered when i lived in Mexico, and the rice was better than any i have tasted. The special i asked for was an overabundance of food, so generous. Would definitely be back as long as that one couple isn't seated near in our vicinity.
A good Mexican restaurant with a history. Chips and salsa were tasty. There were four of us and everyone enjoyed their food. Rice and beans were tasty as well. Service was good and the food came fairly quickly. The only problem we had were with the bar drinks. According to our waiter, we could not get a ranch water. I did get a vodka cranberry with mainly cranberry juice..it was dark, dark red! The margarita was fine. The food was the winner here, not the drinks. I will return when I get a chance.
Loved their salsa (I'm about salsa)! When you stop eating it, your mouth gets hotter. Delicious! I had the fish tacos. They were very good size pieces too, and the Ranchero beans were just as good. I will definitely be making another stop here before we leave.
Unfriendly. No greet. No welcome. No warmth at all & THAT is the reason for 3 stars. One thing about MOST Mexican restaurants is that their staff is always friendly. They will greet you and, at times, will strike up some conversation. and make you feel welcome. Great first impression! Not here.
Love old creeky buildings!
Parking was not an issue.
Definitely not handicap friendly.
Upon entry, you go up the stairs. There was an elderly woman with a cane (with an obvious "bad leg") carrying food & struggling to hold on to her food, the rail, her cane & go down the stairs. The manager stood there & just watched no help at all. My husband stopped, held her hand for support & held the door open for her WHILE the manager asked me, "How many?" (NO "good morning" "welcome" nothing) & took off (after I said "two"), I was still waiting for my husband as he was assisting the elderly lady. We then went looking for him in the direction he shot off to. Extremely turned off. No kinda friendliness. No type of warm greeting, nothing whatsoever.
They sat us in a corner next to windows, which I liked. The restaurant was spacious. There is plenty of room between tables. It was clean and I don't remember much about the decor.
Waiter walks up, again, no type of greet, nothing.
Anyway, needless to say, the chips and salsa, our drinks, our food, and refills all came promptly.
The salsa was watery, but it had a kick. Coffee was.....coffee. It was ok. The menudo was PERFECT. It was probably some of the best menudo I have had. Our visit was comfortable, delicious, and peaceful. No wait btw but by the time we were leaving, I would say 11 or noon, there was a wait. This restaurant has been nominated for three years (as seen in my photos), and I doubt it was for any type of warmth of friendly staff.
Would we come back? Yes.
Cool old school Tex-Mex serving all the classics. Visited today for the first time and will be back for sure.

Just off the cruise ship and craving TexMex! Delicious breakfast (recommend the Chirozoand Eggs)…cute place…great service
Food was delicious. Beef fajitas were tender and flavorful. That rice was some of the best I've ever eaten. The beans were cooked perfectly. Came with lots of grilled peppers and onions. Came with all the trimmings, pico, cheese, sour cream, guacamole. Chips and salsa were good .. Salsa is a little bit hot but so good. Will definitely be a place I go
I ordered the tamales, and they brought me free chips and dip. The food was delicious and the service was wonderful. I will be coming back!
