The James Beard Award should let you know what you are in for. This was the ultimate southern food. Everything was off the charts. This was my first but not my last trip. The fried chicken was fresh out of the fryer and was the best I’ve ever had. The okra soup was good on it’s on and the mac and cheese was just like my grandma used to make. The red rice was also fantastic.

Just simply Love this place!! When I lived and worked in Charleston I would have lunch here everyday. I had the pleasure to meet Mrs. Bertha back then and some of the family. I live in Florida now and my wife and kids fell in love with this restaurant too, every chance when visiting this is our soul food go to place! Never disappointed!!

I loved this place. The food, ambiance, service, and did I mention the food. They also gave us free chili bears.

The food was pretty good. My family would recommend the okra soup, red rice, and seafood. The fried chicken was, however, dry.
We did really appreciate that while we were there on a particularly hot day, one of the workers brought freeze pops for everyone waiting in line. The staff was friendly but we wished someone would have been more attentive to the tables, as many of them had been left unwiped.

The food here is definitely like homemade. Excellent for the price and the flavors are amazing. The fried chicken, the candied yams, and the Lima beans special are the way to go.

Highly recommend! There Bbq chicken was one of the most succulent pieces of chicken I've ever had with so much flavor. The Mac and cheese and rice could use more flavor but still worth it for the price. Great place to eat if your on a budget and want to try authentic soul food in Charleston.

When my Wife and I looked up best Southern Food in South Carolina this was the first place to pop up, And once we tasted the food we can see why! The Fried Chicken was amazing, the Crab Balls were amazing, the Corn Bread was amazing, both the Seafood Rice and Red Rice was amazing, pretty much everything we tasted was amazing 😂 The drinks were gigantic! And they brought the food upstairs to our table, definitely recommend going here if you want some real good southern food!

Don't let the location scare you off or you'll miss out on some of the best comfort food in Charleston. I got the fried chicken, okra soup and corn bread and my wife got the turkey. My hands down favorite was the okra served over rice with shrimp!
