What a marvellous find! Was searching for "Italian" on Google and this wonderful bistro that serves some halal dishes came up! They have ribeye and cheesy Philly steaks, and some other chicken and beef dishes that use halal ingredients, as labeled in the menu. (Note, it's partial halal menu as they do serve non-halal items as well, but the owner Ms. Layla Suarez always tries to accommodate for your dietary needs as well as recommend the best dishes suited to your preferences. Incredibly wonderful lady who personally tends to every table to make sure you're comfortable.)
Today we had an early dinner (supper?) so we went with the sweet potato fries, the chicken stromboli (delicious homemade Italian pastry stuffed with chicken, mushrooms, spinach, and lots of cheese), and the seafood pasta (lots of mussels!). Was surprised with the low prices because the portions were huge! Full of flavour too. Been a while since I've had this good a pasta dish.
The restaurant itself is small but the atmosphere was very cozy and had that eclectic Eurasian-Mediterranean "at home" feel. Definitely the place to have a romantic night out. It is also family-/child-friendly.
Definitely going to come back for more, and if we're in town during Thanksgiving we'll be going for their (halal) turkey full course meal.
Food's great, variety is great, service is good, owner is very friendly and cares for her customers. Great neighborhood Bistro! Highly recommend LAYLA's.
Halal Meat is served here, per stated in the menu and verbal assurance from Owner. Note: a couple of dishes do not use Halal Meat, so it is best to ask to make sure which ones. Went here recently for dinner and my wife and I had a very good experience. The food is pretty good and the service is great and very friendly. We tried the spaghetti and meatballs (pretty good), Chicken Parmesan (ok) and the Chicken Stromboli (very good). They also give complimentary garlic bread which is great. The owner, Layla is very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed for our son as well. They have a very extensive menu, so will have to come back here again and try out their philly cheesesteak sandwich and pizza. Good to have Halal Italian food in San Jose!
Small but wonderful food. Crowded tonight. Food is presented beautifully, the meal was easy to devour and yet not stuffed. We had lamb. And the other was the tuna and kale. Would recommend. And we will be back
Attentive customer service. My tastebuds were bated in a lus medley of crisp flavors and beautiful presentation and perfect textures. Come try her rack of Lamb and Yellow fin carpacio.
Great atmosphere. Friendly service, good food. We will make this place a regular spot to eat at.
Their food is always very good, and fresh. The owner is a very sweet lady; order the stomboli- its bomb.
