Our favorite restaurant in San Jose, and our favorite Mexican restaurant anywhere. Always great food and service. Breakfast at Castillo’s is the best kept secret in Silicon Valley.
Order the Chile Colorado, which isn't on the menu, and ask to make it spicy, unless you can't take the heat! Negra Modelo Super Chavela rounds out anything you eat! Great service and ample seating.

They're food is really good, especially their menudo & micheladas. Sometimes they have live music which is really nice even though it's in Spanish & idk what's being said. The staff is always nice, I'd definitely recommend to friends. Btw I would never consider Castillo's a cal-Mex or healthy, if you want white wash Mexican food stick with Aqui's, hi-tech burrito & the such. If you want home cooking Mexican, go to Castillo's!
Great breakfast. Delicios coffee! Hot (heat hot) food. Only critique - not enough salt - but for those salt conscious I guess that's good. Grt brkfast potattoes and VIPs & salsa - yummy. Defnitely would come again. Clean bathrooms.

They have indoor and outdoor seating. And inside is nice, spacious, and clean.
You start off with chips and salsa. The kind of salsa that's very mild and more like sauce. Not chunky tomato.
Fish tacos are ridiculously amazing. Grilled not battered and fried. Delicious. Moist. Some nice salsa and special sauce on top. Two are way enough to fill you up along with the very good Spanish rice and retired beans. Both moist. Food came out piping hot.
The Chile verde was also delicious. The way they make the sauce is amazing. Again piping hot and delish beans and rice.
Very courteous service. Lots of parking
Updated Dec'23: Really like Castillo's. This time I had a combination with tostada and flauta, both shredded beef of course. And the fish tacos again. I really loved both dishes.
Updated July 2023: I’m forever recommending Castillo‘s. In my opinion It’s the best Mexican restaurant in this area of this type. The combination plate has many selections. I chose enchilada and burrito and always the shredded beef. The Chile Verde is also incredible. The sauce is so good. The supreme burrito is pretty huge and you’re going to be super full when you’re done with it. They have the thick style tortilla chips to start off with and extremely yummy salsa sauce. And lastly, pretty much every time I have come, the service has been really friendly, although I admit a little slow because they get very busy.
The restaurant was able to accommodate our party of nine people. We made the reservation the same day. The food was very good and the cost was from $15 to $25 per person.
Good food and fast, friendly service. They have a nice mix and match menu item so you can try different Mexican flavors.

This bright, clean environment, with friendly and helpful staff, is an enjoyable place to enjoy a wide variety of tasty Mexican dishes. As I really like spicy foods, they made mine spicier than normal, which was certainly appreciated. It’s conveniently located near major roads and has ample parking.

I've had quite a bit of Mexican food, even in Mexico, and I give the food here five stars. The staff is friendly, and restaurant is clean and spacious. Great experience.
We actually wanted to go to Bill’s Cafe. But it was to crowded. So we came here. Been here before for breakfast. Real nice place and friendly service. Never crowded for breakfast. Food was amazing. The chips and salsa was perfect for me. Not to hot and spicy.
I've ordered delivery from them for over a year. This was the first time I've eaten there in person, and I was not disappointed. The service was wonderful, the staff were very friendly, and the food was fantastic. I was even able to order something that was not listed on the menu. I will definitely be going back.
The food and service is always fabulous! Arturo always makes you feel like family, and the staff do great chatting it up with my kiddos! They always offer a great attitude with my substitute requests and I will keep on coming back! Can't go wrong with Castillos- definitely worth a try! Authentic made fresh daily cuisine! Mmmmm.
