Billy Berk's

I love this place. We found this place when my husband googled "bars that serve penicillin" this one popped up. Once we got there we were impressed by the interior decor it was right in the middle of Billy Berk's so its a little treasure in the middle of all those whack clothing stores. The menu is cutie and the drinks are delicious.The only negative thing though is the music. I've been in there a good handful of times and they are always playing the same 80's ballad songs. You would think that a place that cute will have a better tunes.

Paint night was fun but the prices are too high and the food is a bit pretentious. The recommended parking lot on Second and San Fernando is the absolute worst! Never park there, even with validation. They will try to scam you out of more money and then try to take your license if you need to leave to get to an ATM since it's cash only, of course. Despite my negative parking experience the 2 stars reflects only the restaurant. Parking was 0 stars and paint night was 5 stars.

We saw some of the mediocre reviews but decided to try anyway because of such a great location, open atmosphere and outdoor seating. We were not disappointed, it's a mix of Hard Rock Cafe decor and music with old town brick undertone. The Moscow mule is perfect in a vintage copper mug, the ribs really do fall of the bone with a great dark sweet bbq sauce and the Louisiana shrimp smothered rib eye had the perfect salty kick. Finished with the coffee toffee pie, Oreo crust n marshmallow merengue topping. Wow. A fun place to hang out with friends and casual eats!

If I could give this place less than 1 star I would. First, when we walked in, we were met with a very pungent horrible smell. I still have no idea what it was....possibly some sort of terrible cleaning solution. We should have just left then and there after also noticing how empty the restaurant was at 7pm on a Thursday night. On to the meal... My chicken was so tough to cut, it thought it was going to snap like a rubber band. The menu did not match the meal either. It said it was beer battered and it showed up as breaded. That was not the only incorrect description in the menu, either. Dessert was obviously not house made. Pretty disappointing meal. The best part was the wine, which was overpriced. Did I mention that the furniture is outdated, old, ripped, and I couldn't sit straight in my seat because I would slide out of it due to the fabric being so slick.
