If you're looking for fancy, keep looking. If you're looking for an inexpensive place to grab so good sushi and Chinese food, this is your place! Rolls are cheap, there is a big variety, and the taste is great and quality is good. I'd avoid the jalapeño yellowfin unless you like thick cut yellowfin - it was a little "fishy" and too thick to take in the great sauce it's served in. Try lots of different rolls - you can afford to at these prices!
Overall a great value. Everything was pretty good except for the tempura fried rolls. They were heavy and doughy. Which brings me to my biggest gripe. The menu is very nondescript. We had no idea the two tempura rolls we ordered were in fact tempura. The picture does not help as it is very low res and the list of ingredients made no mention of tempura or that the rolls are fried. That aside, the waiter was very friendly and helpful and the sushi was prepared very fast (as sushi should be). Sushi is meant to be a quick bite and not a 2 hour affair like at some places.
This is the Asian Restaurant that all the others are trying to imitate.
**SIMPLY WONDERFUL**
The outside of the building does not herald anything of what the interior has to offer, so don't be fooled by outward appearances.
Once inside your instantly greated with a warm atmosphere and the delicate aromas from the kitchen becon a very nice welcome.
The staff are incredibly eager to please from the moment you walk in the door.
The menu boasts a wide range of sushi, which is usually a warning flag, but the cheerful sushi chefs adeptly pour out artfully skilled plates of delicious and beautiful sashimi and sushi like masters of their craft.
Also available are savory dishes made to order including such specialties as Chinese or Japanese Bento style box meals, which are always a fun choice.
For those with limited chopstick skills, much to my grandsons delight, they can even supply their diners with a "beginner" set of chopsticks, (see picture) to enhance your dining experience.
Red Mermaid Bistro is definitely a NEED TO TRY on anyone's list.
Great food, great service, great atmosphere, very competitive pricing and absolutely delicious!
It can't be beat.
I'll be a regular diner here from now on for sure.
Amazing restaurant I come here once a week and they're always amazing! I'm so surprised people are just going to slander an awesome restaurant.
It's not exactly what it used to be, but it's still delicious, fresh sushi for an absolutely awesome price.
If you want only the freshest of fish (like a 9 out of 10) then this isn't your place. But if you're okay with a 7-8 on the freshness scale, paying about 30% what you'd pay at one of the more expensive sushi joints, then this is your jam.
I can drop 15 bucks and have a massive sushi meal for my wife and I. Where else can you do that? It's our go-to for the excellent quality-to-value ratio. I just wish we didn't have to drive from Draper to get it.
You want to know the true secret to the best Red Mermaid experience? Order by phone and pick it up. They've got it ready in 15 minutes and you're on your way home to smash down some awesome sushi while binge-watching your favorite Netflix program.
Give it a try. Don't expect a high-end dining experience. Just expect value. Delicious value.
Yummy it my tummy sushi at an affordable price. Won ton soup kinda watery, but who cares. Friendly staff. You know how all waiters look alike.
Love the price at 50% off everything all the time and it was decent quality sushi but not a fan of the service. I had a waiter run after me because she supposedly didn't charge me for a soda I was already in my car and she stood their till I handed her $2. I love the price so I just get all my orders to go.
I've been going to this restaurant for about 5 years. They have awesome sushi for the price and even better than many expensive sushi places in the area. Now couple things this is a hole in the wall type restaurant. You go for the food not the service and atmosphere. Not that there service is bad, they just work as a group and don't speak the best english. Decor is cluttery and tables are super close together, but for the price and food you won't care.
Great Price, Bad Service. I love the sushi at this restaurant, and the price is great. I have taken several clients to lunch here, however I will never go if I only have an hour. Servers disappear, and it is hard to get your order placed.
As long as you are only there for the food, this is a great restaurant. Just plan on 2 hours for lunch.
We really enjoyed this location. We’ve been twice now and it’s a nice time. The sushi is decent quality, with a variety of different rolls that are different from each other and don’t feel like small variations on each other. Many of the rolls are very distinct from each other, which we enjoy.
The orange chicken we had was also quite good, and the service is also friendly and attentive.
I've never eaten sushi, this was my first experience and had a pro order our food. Quiet and cozy little place. Didn't feel rushed to leave. Overall very pleasant experience, would recommend!
Love this place!! We've been coming here for years; in addition to the convenient location and nice atmosphere, the food is authentic and delicious! Also love that there are so many vegetarian options as well as vegan friendly menu items!
The sushi is good, service is quick. This comes at a cost. Their gyoza and wontons were warm and delicious, but too cool to be even close to freshly made. Also, the prices in their menu do not reflect the prices charged. For example, they list the Alaskan roll as $5. With the permanent 50% off deal it should charge as $2.50. it charges as $3 on the bill. All rolls had an upcharge like this. It is a small amount, but multiply that by patrons and they easily pull in hundreds in fraudulent charges.
*Edit* they have fixed their prices on the menu to reflect the actual prices charged. And the food was really good.
This review is for Seafood Bucket.
We came in and was a kind lady who greeted us. It was our first time in this restaurant, we used to go to another in Salt Lake City, well this is going to be our new place. Great service. We ordered shrimp head off one with Cajun and other with garlic butter, as appetizer We did have wings. All food was excellent, the restaurant is clean, we will go back to try more. Great job!!
I've been here a lot over the last 3 years. It tends to be our go to when we go out for sushi as a family. They are friendly, have good service, and the atmosphere is nice. The menu is large and the sushi rolls are a great price and always well made. We love the noodle dishes. They accommodate for vegan options.
While I was worried due to the reports of terrible service I was pleasantly suprised. Even though there was a long line my group waited only 15 minutes. Our servers were attentive, and we got our food quite quickly. The food itself was quite good. I especially loved the volcano and Mt. Fuji rolls. As mentioned numerous times the prices are wonderful for sushi, and I plan to come back.
I eat at Red Ginger all the time. I love the food. 1/2 price sushi rolls all day every day. I do not understand why they do not change their menu though. The dinning room is small and a little compact. The service is not the best and at times you will have to flag down a member of the staff to add something to your order or get a refill. The food is very good and I have never had a bad experience with the food. All in all I STRONGLY recommend eating at the Red Ginger Bistro if you like sushi. Another small note is that on Friday or Saturday you will have to wait for a table, but almost every Sunday I have gone it was instant seating.
I Love their sushi selection, everyone I have tried so far are so good. The service is always good, they are friendly and efficient. I have gone here at least once a month for 8 months and have not had a bad experience yet. My Guy always gets a bento box and loves it every time. The atmosphere is nice. I would recommend trying it if you like sushi.
We have been coming here as a family for years, even before they changed their name as a family tradition. If we go more than 3 months without this place, we go insane. This is the best sushi we have had, and the service has always been excellent. We have referred much of our extended family to this restaurant. We will continue to come here time and time again!
