Delicious food, friendly service. I did learn to order my brisket “wet” and/or ask for the heal (at least to dievify I don’t want it lean). Last time I was there I didn’t and the brisket was too lean for my likings. I wish they’d add that to their menu (the choices of how to order the brisket)... I think they usually serve it lean, but sometimes that’s too dry for me. It would be nice if they added that “choice” or terminology to their menu so customers would know it’s a possibility. I ordered the 2meat combo of brisket and sausage with sides of green beans and dirty rice. Loved it!
Swinging Door is a Pecan smoked BBQ restaurant. The Pecan wood gives the meat a unique flavor. Other smoke houses use Hickory.
We tried the Swinging Door 40 yrs ago and keep on going back. We have had birthday's, anniversaries, and reunions there and have never been disappointed. Thank you SD for always staying the same great place.
Full disclosure, although I was raised in Houston, I was born in Kansas City, Missouri, which is known for it’s barbecue. For me, the pinnacle of barbecue will always be Kansas City barbecue. Even with my limited expectations, I still venture out to Houston barbecue spots from time to time. Before heading to Braman Winery, we stopped down the street to Swinging Door Barbecue for a birthday dinner.
This place smells like a BBQ place should smell . The smokey goodness hits you as soon as you walk in and you just know you are in for a treat! I have personally never seen so much food on one plate! I did order the three meat, 3 side combo. Very large portions! I loved the ribs! Also had the brisket and the turkey also excellent. The dirty rice is good, potato salad great and I liked the beans too! I will return to this place! It is great BBQ! Very down home atmosphere. Service was awesome!
Good Food and Friendly Staff. I love this place, some of the best BBQ in Houston. It is very reasonable priced for the the food you get . It is a little bit of a hidden treasure but worth stumblin' in to. Use to make it a point to stop in before I moved from South Texas. Luckily I live 5 minutes from here now.
I've been eating here since I was a little kid! Love this place, the food is great and the staff is super friendly
Best BBQ around. I've been eating at swinging door BBQ since I was a little kid. We used to drive in from the city just to eat there. I moved away for several years and had to check it out again once we moved back and it was just as awesome as I remember. Good simple BBQ done right! Love the ribs, brisket an sausage! The cobbler is to die for! Wish I lived closer but is definitely worth the drive!!
Home Away From Home. The scenic drive captures the feeling of this place completely. It's a nice southern "down home" place with killer BBQ. Got a Brisket Sandwich with a Baked Potato, and topped it off with their Brownie Sundae. The meat was killer and the sauce was unlike I had ever tasted before. The bread could have been a bit "warmer' but that is just nit-picking. It will fill you up and you'll remember why you love living in Texas!
Among The Greats Of Texas Barbeque. First, the bad news. I'm not crazy about the brisket. The end. Now for the good news. Amazing ribs, great sausage (but a dining companion of mine felt they were too fatty), very nice sauce, solid potato salad, etc... and a really awesome Swinging Door root beer. Ask for it. Go for the food. The cold drinks. The intoxicating pecan smoke outside.
Whoever wrote the review saying this place has dry brisket... well, I just don't veleive they were talking about this place. My husband and I decided to have an adventure and drive out to find this place, and I'm glad we did. Delicious food and nice people, what more can you ask for? We'll be back, no doubt.
Delicious BBQ & friendly people. great for catered events, like gold outings or graduation parties
Yum!. This is my favorite BBQ place in Texas. One of my favorite things about it (other than the fabulous flavors!) is that it's not cafeteria style, practically unheard of around here. I love the ribs the best, but it's all good. It's a drive, but it's seriously worth it!
Amazing experience. The super 3 meat 3 side plate is big enough to take leftovers gone for the next day. Order the apple cobbler with ice cream on top, will NOT disappoint. Bone licking good! Sweet tea is okay, but I also went at the end of the day so the batch may not have been fresh.
Great barbecue in Richmond, TX. We have been going to this place for years and never once have I had a complaint about the service nor the food. The BBQ sauce is delicious and the beer is always cold.
This restaurant had an old time feel... reminded me of an old country town... the staff was amazing and the food was grrat.. stop by and check it out... Well until next time signing off Two Peas
The food was delicious, love the pecan smoke flavor on the meat and the dirty rice is one of my favorite sides!!!
It's good bbq but surely not the best. Pork ribs were good but little on the pink side. Dirty Rice though not bad didn't have a lot of flavor. Sausage was good but again not great. Basically a decent place to eat if you're staying local.
This was an unplanned stop to delay heading back up north on rush hour traffic. Got a salad, combo plate, and a pitcher of beer. Very friendly service and atmosphere. Decor is an interesting accumulation of tidbits from the town and outlying areas, with a history of fire damage and corporate big wigs shuttling in by copter.
Finished with a hot brownie sundae. Glorious.
