Delicious food, friendly service. I did learn to order my brisket “wet” and/or ask for the heal (at least to dievify I don’t want it lean). Last time I was there I didn’t and the brisket was too lean for my likings. I wish they’d add that to their menu (the choices of how to order the brisket)... I think they usually serve it lean, but sometimes that’s too dry for me. It would be nice if they added that “choice” or terminology to their menu so customers would know it’s a possibility. I ordered the 2meat combo of brisket and sausage with sides of green beans and dirty rice. Loved it!

Swinging Door is a Pecan smoked BBQ restaurant. The Pecan wood gives the meat a unique flavor. Other smoke houses use Hickory. We tried the Swinging Door 40 yrs ago and keep on going back. We have had birthday's, anniversaries, and reunions there and have never been disappointed. Thank you SD for always staying the same great place.

It is the best place to eat BBQ in Richmond, Rosenberg, Tx. I visit this BBQ place every time I am in the area. Service is excellent along with the portion size. More than you can eat in one sitting.

This place was E.P.I.C. The food was unbelievable and the whole place just had this completely authentic Texas vibe - right down to the slightly gruff server who was perfect.

The BBQ here is exceptional and the service is too. The ribs & brisket are so tender and flavorful you want more. The peach and blackberry cobblers are to die for especially when you add ice cream. They have a new dessert, bread pudding with whiskey sauce, another home run. This place is a must when I'm in town.

I've been enjoying the food and atmosphere at The Swinging Door for the past 20 years, and the only bad thing I can say about the place is that it's snot open on Monday or Tuesday. The food is fantastic, the staff are all super friendly and anytime a friend comes into town it's always our first good time! It's a true blue, come as you are and leave happy Texan landmark. Do it!!

The Swinging Door has some of the most tender and tasty BBQ I have ever had and the BBQ sauce just puts their food over the top. The green beans and ranch beans made me feel like I was eating by a night camp fire. You can not go wrong with this family friendly BBQ restaurant. The smell alone is worth the trip of going to eat there and the service is fast and friendly. Semper Fi

Full disclosure, although I was raised in Houston, I was born in Kansas City, Missouri, which is known for it’s barbecue.  For me, the pinnacle of barbecue will always be Kansas City barbecue.  Even with my limited expectations, I still venture out to Houston barbecue spots from time to time.  Before heading to Braman Winery, we stopped down the street to Swinging Door Barbecue for a birthday dinner.

This place smells like a BBQ place should smell . The smokey goodness hits you as soon as you walk in and you just know you are in for a treat! I have personally never seen so much food on one plate! I did order the three meat, 3 side combo. Very large portions! I loved the ribs! Also had the brisket and the turkey also excellent. The dirty rice is good, potato salad great and I liked the beans too! I will return to this place! It is great BBQ! Very down home atmosphere. Service was awesome!

Good Food and Friendly Staff. I love this place, some of the best BBQ in Houston. It is very reasonable priced for the the food you get . It is a little bit of a hidden treasure but worth stumblin' in to. Use to make it a point to stop in before I moved from South Texas. Luckily I live 5 minutes from here now.

Best BBQ around. I've been eating at swinging door BBQ since I was a little kid. We used to drive in from the city just to eat there. I moved away for several years and had to check it out again once we moved back and it was just as awesome as I remember. Good simple BBQ done right! Love the ribs, brisket an sausage! The cobbler is to die for! Wish I lived closer but is definitely worth the drive!!

Home Away From Home. The scenic drive captures the feeling of this place completely. It's a nice southern "down home" place with killer BBQ. Got a Brisket Sandwich with a Baked Potato, and topped it off with their Brownie Sundae. The meat was killer and the sauce was unlike I had ever tasted before. The bread could have been a bit "warmer' but that is just nit-picking. It will fill you up and you'll remember why you love living in Texas!

Among The Greats Of Texas Barbeque. First, the bad news. I'm not crazy about the brisket. The end. Now for the good news. Amazing ribs, great sausage (but a dining companion of mine felt they were too fatty), very nice sauce, solid potato salad, etc... and a really awesome Swinging Door root beer. Ask for it. Go for the food. The cold drinks. The intoxicating pecan smoke outside.

Whoever wrote the review saying this place has dry brisket... well, I just don't veleive they were talking about this place. My husband and I decided to have an adventure and drive out to find this place, and I'm glad we did. Delicious food and nice people, what more can you ask for? We'll be back, no doubt.

Yum!. This is my favorite BBQ place in Texas. One of my favorite things about it (other than the fabulous flavors!) is that it's not cafeteria style, practically unheard of around here. I love the ribs the best, but it's all good. It's a drive, but it's seriously worth it!

The Swinging Door is one of the best barbecue places I have ever been to! Think of The Swinging Door like the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears . Not too hard, not too soft… They strike a sort of balance in several areas that makes them, in my opinion, Just Right. They are located about 45 minutes (good traffic) from downtown Houston in a stand-alone building on a country road outside of Richmond, TX. Still has a country feel but within a comfortable drive from the city. - Just Right The restaurant itself is small enough to have a cozy feel but large enough to handle their large number of customers. The place looks and feels like a barbecue restaurant should. Just Right The barbecue is smoked. This is expected for any Texas barbecue place. The Swinging Door, however, puts a slight twist on this by serving up Pecan-smoked meats. This combination of the expected with something unique , makes it, Just Right They make their own root beer! I like root beer, especially the brews from

As soon as I parked, we noted the warm welcoming of the venue. We were greeted with an upbeat hello from the staff! The cleanliness was sparkling. The background music was not overwhelming. We dined on the patio. There was a wide variety of items to choose from. There was no skimping on the food, (look at the size of the sandwich!) Food was all in house made, it was yummylicious. Awesome Mac n cheese ...we had the brisket, and a pulled pork sandwich and 2 sides each. James R and the lady who served the food were welcoming everyone and sure the entire experience was a 5✨ Stars plus. Definitely worth the revisit and bringing friends.

The people working there are extremely nice and the food they serve is amazing. Had a beef rib plate and pretty much every bite would melt in your mouth with an explosion of flavor. Please open up a place closer to Austin !!

Got the 4 bone Beef Rib. Good flavor but a little bit dry. Not as juicy as Terry Black's or The Original Black's.

After visiting for brunch I was impressed with the selection, taste and customer service. So much so, that I just knew they were the type of business I wanted to support and have cater. Wendy went above and beyond with her recommendations, help, communication, and service. She and her team did an excellent job catering our event and I would highly recommend them. Our guest could not get enough of the brisket, it was the crowd favorite.

Go here instead of Rudy's. Taste great, the portions are hefty that won't left you question if it's enough. The brisket are okay, i would say they need to be a bit more saucy and fatty but maybe that's just my taste. The breads 🍞 are Southern Hospitality sized, they are very thick and filling. Mashed Potatoes taste organic and fresh. The rice was not over oiled and flavourful. Overall, I would definitely have lunch here again.

Highly recommend! They have enormous and the best baked chopper potatoes, they have amazing Buffalo wings, the meats and sides are flavorful and done right. Their dirty rice is among the best I’ve had. Wendy the front end manager goes above and beyond for service and truly cares about the quality of food and service provided.

I usually don't comment on staff, but pulled into the parking lot. There's an elderly gentleman with his cane shooting across the parking lot. Three staff members came out held the door open and helped him walk to his table. They served his plate and brought it to his table. Today you don't see things like that. People are so involved in their own things. They don't take the time to be of service. The staff is always friendly and the food is great. All you can eat breakfast buffet. That one act of kindness will keep me coming back here.

This was my first time visiting this place and I must admit I wasn’t expecting it to be that good just ok. I got a 3 meat plate (beef sausage, pork ribs, and brisket)with 2 sides and I got banana pudding for dessert. The meat was smoked perfectly and my potato salad and beans were great. Now I must say the banana pudding on the other hand was just ok because they don’t have bananas in the banana pudding and I love mine with bananas in it but that’s just me some people like it without bananas so no point deduction for that I’ll just pick a different dessert next time lol.

Greeted by the manager or owner immediately when we walked in and explained a bit about his restaurant. This was our first time in a 9ers and the food was fantastic! Ordered the baby backs and chicken wings special for 29.99 and it did NOT disappoint. Great food, clean restaurant and restrooms. Very friendly staff and will definitely be back!

Went to 9ers bbq when the first opened it and it was salty and not good. Been more than a year and decided to try again. Glad I did. Huge portions, great flavor, very tender. Only complaint was the bbq sauce was water thin.

Stopped here for lunch for the first time. Restaurant was super clean and loved the good ol’ Texan vibe. - Chopped Brisket Sandwich: Delicious and loved the Smokey flavor - Fries basket - Nicely seasoned fries, loved the taste. - Mac and Cheese - One of the best I’ve had. Sooo Rich and hearty. I just couldn’t stop eating it. - BBQ Sauce - The perfect balance of seasoning and thickness. Not overwhelming texture, just the right kick you need with your meat. - Coke from Vending - Nice, cold, fizzy and sweet. Just like the Coke that’s meant to be with BBQ. If there’s one thing that annoys me a lot at other restaurants are their flat cokes in vending machines which ruins the entire meal experience, but this place had great vending machine and Coke. The also had bottled Jarritos chilled in ice cooler flavor. All in all - This place just became my normal go-to for BBQ.
