We sat at the bar for dinner. The bartenders did a great job. They were attentive and friendly. The drinks were perfect. Both schnitzel entrees were delicious. We highly recommend this for a local casual night out.
I though the food was very good. My hamburger was handmade and very good quality meat. My wife had the crab cakes which were delicious. Great beer selection. Would rate it 4 out of 5.
Good Food. I went to the Hop Angel the second week it was open on Thursday night and the food was really good. I had the sauerbraten as an entree and my husband had the wiener schnitzel. We both really enjoyed our meals and the beers we chose to accompany them. The service was good- we had no issues. Our order was taken quickly and the food came out in a timely manner and our server was attentive and on top of things. I normally don't review a place right after it opens since usually there are issues to be worked out right after opening - but since I had a good experience and will definitely go back - I decided to add my review anyway.
Restaurant specializing in German favorites like Bratwursts and beers. Has a full bar and two large screen TVs with sports channels on them. Potatoe pancakes and kielbasa with pierogies and German potates were great. Quiet before dinner time. Can loud and crowded during happy hour and on. Nice staff. Parking in the back with entrances in front and in the lot. Parking free. Traffic to turn into restaurant takes awhile.
Went here for the first time today and enjoyed our meals. The burgers and the garlic fries were great! The brie burger was delicious. Would return if I'm in the area again.
FYI they discontinued their German menu in October 2019, and have switched to an American menu.
Hosted my bachelor party dinner and it was a great time. Gave us an entire room for the group and gave amazing service. Great German menu, beer list and ambience.
Hop Angel is very good. Great variable beer selection, delicious regular menu, good German authenticity. Friendly service every time. Most items you order will be superb. The most recent time I went, however, the coleslaw was swimming in mayo. And, once upon a time, I could order a .5L glass of Franziskaner when they had it it on tap. That option is gone. If these things were fixed, it would definitely be a 5-star eatery. As things are, it's still excellent.
We've been going here for years. Absolutely phenomenal German food, a great beer selection, and friendly service. The inside looks like a traditional German restaurant without going over the top. The sausage/wurst platters, Jagerschnitzel, and other dishes are hearty, savory, filling, and delicious. Their salad bar is fresh and more convenient than waiting for it to come to you if you're hungry.
I heard a rumor they may be turning into an Irish pub. I really hope that's not true, pubs are a dime a dozen, fantastic German restaurants like this are a lot harder to come by!
Beer selection is extensive and the ones we had were very good and representative of their type.
Food was excellent. I had wienerschnitzle w/mashed potatoes and red cabbage. My husband had the veggie burger w/spaetzle - the veggie burger was huge, made in-house and delicious!
We will be back.

The beer here is always good. Bar tenders are wonderful and always strike up a conversation to make you feel at home. There is a lot of parking out back behind the pub also. The happy hour food (definitely the wings) are great tasting and great priced. Need to plan a stop in!
The only down fall I would say is - there were fruit flies (tiny gnats) around the bar area last time I visited. Might need a deep thorough cleaning soon (sticky beer/soda behind bar or dirty ice bins sometimes cause this - having worked at a restaurant for years myself).
I have been at Hop Angel many times, every time I come I get the same great service from Tim, Bill, Michelle and Shannon. The drinks are always good, although I usually don t order food I know the fries, wings, turkey club and fried pickles are good. This is a place I would recommend to anyone looking for a really cool place to eat and drink.
Well all the people were really friendly. The Barmaid was great & so friendly & told us about all the specials. Never waited for a drink was always on top of everything at the bar (So sweet). Married 38 yrs. Today just dropped in on a whim nice place would return.
Such a cute space, a hidden gem in Philly. Great for a casual drink with friends with delicious food to boot. There is so much space that you never feel elbow-to-elbow with people. And the staff is really attentive and friendly. Love it here.
