Review Lupa Osteria Romana - New York City

Very nice, old school Italian spot! Loved the dim lighting and vibe of the place, only thing I didn’t like was the music playing. But as for the food, enjoyed the focaccia they bring out! The wine is enough for a glass and a third. Really liked the rigatoni gricia and the paparadelle was handmade and very light! For dessert we loved the affogato and the tartufo!

I love Italian food and couldn't wait to try this restaurant. When I arrived I parked on the street not too far. When I walked in, I was greeted by James the host, and he was very nice. The restaurant was so cute! Adrian was the bartender, Marco was my server, and Ian was the GM. They were all great! I started with an espresso martini, which was great. I then had an amazing red wine. For my appetizer, I had the Arancini di Mozzarella, and it wasn't bad. It was nice and cheesey. For my meal, I got the Black Spaghetti with Spicy frutti di mare. I really enjoyed my entrée. It was very different and melted in my mouth. I really enjoyed the food, drink and service!

My friend and I had the pasta tasting with wine pairing. Great portions. In general, way too salty. I understand certain elements make it salty but this was a little bit too much. Still good though.

Came for a nice dinner with my girlfriend while we were in NY last summer. Our meals were both delicious and it was great to try some Roman style Italian food. The arancini & crispy brussels sprouts sprouts were both excellent as well as our main dishes. Definitely holds up in a city filled with many excellent Italian spots and would recommend a visit here.

Make sure you make a reservation for dinner because it gets busy very fast! Food was delicious and staff were very friendly. I would love to come back and try some of the other pasta options. Highly recommend the lamb dish which is the perfect amount for 3 people. You can expect to pay around $50-$100 per person (depending on drinks), but the price is worth it. There is outdoor seating as well but I did not see anyone there since it was a pretty cold night.

I tried their Tartufo, cacio e Pepe, burrata, pesto beets. The pasta and dessert were my favorite. Cacio e Pepe was creamy and delicious. The spot gets super crowded during Friday night so reservation is a must. They also have a lovely outside seating space. My friends tried the crispy duck and loved it. Staff is friendly too. They have wine by small carafes and I liked the wine I tried.

Love this place . The wine was giving it. Meatballs tasted like pure meat and it is good quality. Branzino fish was flavourful and seemed fresh. It went perfect with Brussel Sprout. I love how the season this veggie! Cocio de pepe was amazing I would definitely go back to the pasta . Sei Chianti was very easy to drink as it is very light but so savoury. I want to give this place 10 stars for food, wine and dessert. Tiramisu was one of the best ones I have ever had .

First of hopefully many visits to this delightfully cozy establishment. Extensive wine list and steady advice for pairings. The meatballs alone are reason enough to return! Portions are appropriately sized. Everything I have samples thus far has been delicious. Very well done 👍

Walked in on a Saturday night and was greeted right away, we picked our own table in the corner which was great. The service is by far the BEST. My glass never went down more than half way with water! The Somali helped me with selecting a wine (great recommendation) we order the octopus and a spaghetti dish. They even sent over a complementary tray of sliced meats. The service and food is just amazing, I almost wanted to hug everyone on the way out lol Thank you!

Italian mainstay in the Village, my first visit. Wonderful server and pleasant ambiance. Appetizers were good and well prepared but pretty ordinary. Good cocktails. I had the cod, not a particularly Italian preparation but very tasty and fresh. Points deducted for the contorni (side dishes), lackluster, chewy and frankly kind of weird. The place was packed at 8 pm on a Monday night so they must be doing something right.

Place is a vibe. One of my first choice Italian restaurants to visit in NYC 🫶 Lovely bar atmosphere to dine for one and warm service from the bar staff! Can't go wrong with the menu but if you smell the Short Rib Ragu and you didn't order it, you'll have order envy. Whatever the burrata special is, definitely start with it.

The prosciutto appetizer and panna cotta dessert were my personal highlights of my dinner at Lupa. Definitely a good classic Italian restaurant but not sure if I would come back.

Up(per) scale Italian restaurant. Ambience is very nice and servers are professional. Menu is in all italian so get ready to translate or just ask your waiter. Bread with oil and sourdough with fava bean spread were both complementary. Didn’t try the wine (I know, a crime) but the other drinks and cocktails were nice. The Brussels sprouts appetizer was really yummy, but the pasta sealed the deal. Honestly, one can’t recommend any dish here because they were all so good. But I will recommend the pomodoro and chili.

Lupa, the charming Italian restaurant specializing in Roman cuisine, left a lasting impression on my dining experience. The food was undeniably exceptional, showcasing the true essence of Italian flavors. What truly elevated our visit was the impeccable service. The staff's attentiveness was remarkable, ensuring a delightful evening. I must commend our sommelier, Angelo, whose profound knowledge of wines added a layer of sophistication to our meal. Angelo's approachable demeanor made the entire wine selection process an engaging and enjoyable one. In essence, Lupa offers a genuine Italian culinary journey, complemented by a service that strikes the perfect balance between expertise and warmth. This restaurant is an unassuming gem in the world of Italian dining, where the focus remains firmly on the culinary experience rather than commercial promotion.

Great vibes for dinner with friends, good wine, and delicious food. Honestly, I had one of the greatest nights at Lupa with some of my friends and I always seem to get the same experience and good energy when I am there. Food and wine selection was phenomenal. The fried artichoke flowers, carbonara, and muscles lemon linguine are some of my favorites !

Nestled amongst a plethora of “international” restaurants on Thompson, lies a surprisingly good Italian restaurant. It’s rare that I spontaneously find myself in an eatery and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The ambiance was warm and authentic. The staff is equally so. Lunch started off with three, small pieces of focaccia bread and aromatic olive oil. Followed by a simple yet very satisfying mixed green salad with lemon dressing. Next, we had a plate of sardines that were accompanied by little, fried chickpeas. The combination was delightful. Our main course consisted of two well prepared pastas. The first was a light and fluffy ricotta gnocchi with fennel red sauce. The undisputed winner was a cavatelli with watercress pesto and crumbled sausage with a hint of chili pepper. We accompanied our meal with the delicious wine blend and a crisp blood orange IPA. Our server was attentive and bright. I definitely recommend this restaurant if ever desiring a taste of well executed, humble Italian fare.

Baccalà, Pajata, Trippa? All in one place, all done to perfection, and affordable in NYC terms? I was in heaven. What an outstanding food experience! Thankfully, we were seated in the back, which was quieter, so we could hear each other--which led to full enjoyment of our food. Also, we were recommended a terrific Barolo at an unbelievable price point. That made the heavens sing.

I very much enjoyed the food and ambience at Lupa, my food was delicious the service is first class. I will return every time I’m in NYC. I highly recommend it.

The food was great! Probably the best pasta dish I've had in some time! Our server was very personable and friendly! Can't wait until we go back!

Phenomenal! Every time I visit this restaurant, they knock it out of the park from the minute I walk in the door. The wait staff are knowledgeable, friendly and execute on all points. The food has never been anything less than amazing. I love this place!

Awful service..."Can you please leave now so we can fill the table again" service. Marginal food. Living off hype and nothing more. There are countless other Italian restaurants in NYC that serve better food, care about their customers and are better values. Pepolino continues to be my favorite NYC Italian and beats Lupa hands down. I will never again visit a Batali/Bastianich restaurant.

This is my must go to spot whenever I come to NY. Consistently delicious and I love that they tend to leave the menu as it is, year after year. Tartufo is perfection.

Great service, pasta was exquisite, pork chop was just "ok" (a little dry). My go to place ehen in New York.
Victor Manuel Fernandez
The gnocchi was like clouds from heaven, the service was dodgy at best.

I was there celebrating my 16th yr marriage anniversary (23yrs together) with my husband. The staff was very very pleasant & friendly. The food was amazing & loved everything that we tried (we tried a lot of different things). I give it beyond a 10. I will definitely go back to eat & have a nice glass of wine.
Mary Halinecz
The food was very good! I can't complain about that!! When we sat down at the table we waited 10 minutes before anyone walked over to ask if we wanted anything to drink!! The music was too loud so you could not hear what anyone was saying at the table!! When we received our bill we had a charge on there that belonged to another table!! Would I go back? NO!

This restaurant never fails. I came today and asked for a meal to take home, which they don't do, and they were so kind and helpful. They went above and beyond, packaged my husband's favorite meal for the long drive back home for Valentine's Day. I will always love this restaurant.

The reason I feel compelled to rate Lupa a 3 is because I just had my 50th birthday dinner there and the service was REALLY poor. By poor I mean none of the wait staff smiled even once. They seemed irritated, like we were an inconvenience to them. Definitely stuck up, but NOT in a good way. Sorry to say

Love this place. My partner and I went there on our third date. Had such a delicious lunch yesterday that I made it a point to make a reservation for us next Tuesday - two and a half years later!

We have never felt so rushed in our lives!!! Priority #1 is clearly to squeeze in at least three services. Very disappointing.

Had a wonderful lunch yesterday, booked a reservation a few days prior. Our server Emi was extremely friendly and attentive, can't wait to go back in the future.
