Review The Smith - New York City

Sarah Garofalo
Super fun, classy, delicious night out. Everything was extremely speedy and the ambience was so beautiful. The fries that come with the burger are plentiful and yummy. We both got drinks and were very pleased with them! Highly highly recommend.

I recently had a delightful lunch there with friends. We started with the Mac n cheese, which were served piping hot and perfectly roasted. incredibly rich and creamy! SO GOOD! For my main course, I opted for the Smith burger.🍔 It was flavorful, and satisfying! Their menu is extensive, with something for everyone, including burgers, salads, sandwiches, pasta, and entrees like steak, fish, and chicken. Additionally, they boast an excellent variety of cocktails, beer, and wine. Our server was friendly and attentive. All in all, I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for a casual meal in the neighborhood.

The Smith burger is delicious. Their mussels and pasta are also good. We had the vodka sauce and the squid ink pasta. Some of the entrees come with fries. I appreciate that they offer complimentary sparkling water.

I got the steak and eggs. Was great. Very straight forward. The rest of the food was good too and the hot chocolate was nice as well. The food in the Croissant was great too but a little too much sauce. Was a great experience. Missing just little touches to push it up to that 5 star experience. Flavor needs to punch you in the face. Final verdict: would def go again and even recommend for brunch.

Great food and service. Warm ambiance. I ordered The crisp apple salad with chicken and it was delicious. Husband ordered the smoked salmon toast (he loved) and Jalapeño grits. The grits were good but could have been served hotter. Tomato soup was delicious. Overall a pleasant experience.

I went to The Smith on a Thursday night with a friend. We went because of their famous Bloody Mary that is made with a special recipe. It was great. A bit spicy compared to a classic Bloody Mary but really good. And their Mac and Cheese? Wow. Simply WOW. I would definitely recommend it especially for the tourists that want to have a real NewYorker Experience.

Excellent service and delicious food. Oh, did I say delicious food? I met family here for lunch one afternoon while I was in town for a film festival. I found The Smith through a Google search looking for restaurants with good ratings and a nice atmosphere that was located close to our theater. The Smith was the perfect decision! My burger and fries were excellent! I enjoyed my beer and my family members that ordered alcoholic drinks were pleased as well.

First time there, definitely coming back again. The staff was very nice to us and the place is very spacious, it does not feel like you are sharing a table with the table next to you. The Rancheros Scrambled and Johnny Benedict's were really good

Another wonderful dinner a The Smith. We were looking forward to the pork chop and were not dissapointed. The meat was jussy and paired wonderfully with the grits. The dessert was amazing, especially the blueberry almond crust pie and s'mores in a jar. The chocolate pudding was silky and the graham cracker crumble created wonderful texchural counterpoint. The Smith is our go-to place for dinner. Will be back.

Took us about 30 mins after our reservation to get seated but other than that, nice food, friendly service, buzzy atmosphere.

Really impressed by this place. It's a little pricey but totally worth it! I had the Burger Royale (and added avocado) and it was probably one of the best burgers I've ever eaten. Fries were good, wine was good, service was friendly. The ambience of the place is a little loud--very crowded but the decor is cute and I liked being close enough to the other tables to check out their amazing dishes too. Lol Definitely will be on my NYC restaurant lists any time I'm there.

I went for the 1st time I. The Manhattan area and I must say that the place was beautiful. Tried the Famous Mac & Cheese and it was amazing. The person that serviced us was on point and was giving us the best service out there. Others came to pick up and clean our table as we finished and I have no complaints whatsoever. I will be returning and I recommend for other who have not gone to check it out if you want to try something different.

Food was the best here in NYC so far! As was service. Disappointed though when I mentioned we were celebrating my bday and the waitress exclaimed “We will have to get you something special for that! “ then charged for my dessert. Was the candle free?

Went for the first time last night. The place was clean and service was good. The food was delicious. The homemade potato chips were amazing. I would definitely recommend this place and will be going back.

Tried this yesterday - my burger was to die for and the steak my daughter had melted in your mouth! Not to mention the fries - oh the fries! Awesome! Will be back for sure!

Service as very good, atmosphere was bustling and perhaps loud (if thats good), food was fine, prices per person surprisingly a little high - makes this a good rating and worth a visit
Pablito Richardson
Overall the food was okay. The space is VERY busy and VERY loud - almost impossible to hear those around you. We had a reservation and it took over 40 minutes to be seated. The host staff was very nice/professional. Our server was seriously disinterested and almost annoyed despite our group being friendly, low maintenance, etc. Overall, meh... okay, food, okay service, crowded/loud.

Great food Great service Great atmosphere highly recommend!

Our server, Katlyn was great & the food was delicious! Thanks...

I wish I had found this place prior to my last meal in NYC! Will be back for sure. Service is incredible...food is out of this world.

One of my favorite places in NYC. The steak salad is definitely my favorite it the mac and cheese and fried calamari are also delicious! Absolutely enjoy the food and ambient every time I go there!
Melinda Loch
Great breakfast, good coffee really enjoyed our meal here. Bonus getting sparkling water complimentary.

13 dollars for a mediocre glass of wine. Tiny tables. Loud. I mean i can get good food anywhere. What is the point of overpaying here?

The resturant was really nice. My family and I visited for Mother's Day. The oyster appetizer was so yummy! I also ordered the salmon dish which was really tasty, however, they could've served more veggies with it since it was a main entree. Outside is that, it was really good!
John Perales
Go to staple for enough variety and the best jalapeño grits I ever tasted. Skirt Steak was perfect.

Came here for breakfast. I love that they have sparkling and still water at the table. Had the French toast, waffles with blueberry compote, eggs Benedict on smoked salmon. All was delicious. I especially liked the waffles. So light and fluffy, it was so easy to wolf down.

Loved the food and the staff was very nice. This is a lively but also a bit loud place. Prices are also very reasonable. All in all it's very good for what you pay.

After a long walk in NY we saw this place with great decor and large opened windows so decided to walk in.

The receptionist accommodated us with a table close to the AC as it was over 30 degres outside.

Our waitress was nice and friendly. We chose the avocado on toast and it arrived very quickly.

The food is fantastic and fresh. We had a lovely time.

I love this place. Love the ambience and definitely lobe the food. But this place is quite hectic and full on the brunch time. Better make a reservation before coming especially in the peak hours. The smores dessert was amazing, i like it so much. And the brioche, so delish
Farida
Amazing brunch. I love the vibe and the decoration. The French toast is to die for - literally. The staff can be rude, even with that I give them a 5*

The Smith happens to be one of my Favorite Brunch spots for young professionals in NYC. If you are looking for somewhere to eat brunch in the East Village area, The Smith should be on your short list. The atmosphere is trendy, the service is always pretty good and the food is hot, fresh and well seasoned. Check out the five items that I absolutely love on the Smith’s Brunch menu.

The Smith was recommended by a friend and what a nice place. Very crowded for a Sunday night yet we got a booth. If visiting do make reservations and ask for a booth as they have more space. The tables are quite cramped. In the starters the gnocchi was amazing. If you don't mind a bit of heat do try the angry apple. For main course we had chicken pot pie, pork chops and brick pressed chicken. All the the dishes were really tasty. The service was impeccable. For sure would go again. It is not inexpensive though.

It's been three years and I still remember this place fondly when I think of my time in New York. Food was delicious and the service was amazing!!
EateryROW
The Smith is one of the more popular of the generation of NYC restaurants that evolved out of the speakeasy scene. Lots of cocktails and lots of wood contrast with the industrial lamps and white tile walls. It's like eating on a renovated subway platform from the 1940s. The place, at 7 on a weekend, was crowded, but not such that I wasn't able to get a reservation or find a spot at the bar to wait for my friends. It's a little loud and the food is standard American comfort food, by and large. Burgers, pot pie, mac and cheese - standard gastropub; no groundbreaking menus here - so maybe it shouldn't be a shock that there were a fair number of kids. I guess that if mom and dad want a drink, and the kids want a burger, and nobody wants boring, The Smith is a pretty good choice.

Amazing!!! I got the Mac and cheese and honestly it was one of the best I've had in a while!! It was creamy and cheesy and in the cutest pan! Don't forget the s'mores in a jar, aka the best dessert ever made. SO AMAZING

Great buttermilk waffles!. Breakfast here was a lovely treat!
The buttermilk waffles were made just how I like them, not overly crisp. The caramelized apples were a fantastic, mouth-watering feature.
The coffee was top notch too! I will definitely be returning for breakfast or brunch on my next journey to the east village.

Poor service and cold eggs!!!. Waiter never asked to refill coffee, had to ask another. Eggs were cold. Potatoes were cold. Better food and better service at the Waffle House.

This place is great. It was out last dinner this trip, I wish it was our first. We sat at the bar and ate; the bartender was fab.

Great food and attentive service. As an Aussie, I come here every visit to NYC. Stunning mac and cheese - just what I feel like when I get of a 15 hour flight! Love this place

Loud but Good. I think this may be the loudest restaurant I've ever been in but, the brunch we had that day counteracted all of it.

Candied bacon!!! Try it and trust me.

Loud. The Smith isn't too bad. The food is great and they give you complimentary sparkling water and your first juice is complimentary too, but you have to be carefully b/c otherwise they charge you $5 a glass. It was very very crowded, loud and tight which is expected in NYC, but not the kind of atmosphere for everyone. Good food, decent prices but very loud

Great neighborhood restaurant. When in the East Village, The Smith is the place to go for good, reliable food. They have a wonderful selection of large salads, sandwhiches and main courses. And their wine list is well selected and reasonably priced.

Their party room downstairs is also a highlight. So many restaurants provide boring price fixe menus, but not at The Smith. I organized a party fo 40 people there and everyone loved the food. Service was also very attentive.

Will be back!. I went there on a Wednesday night to celebrate my brother's birthday. We got there around 630 and it wasn't very busy. We got a booth immediately.

We started with a couple of shots of Jameson which was chilled perfectly and smooth. We shared a shrimp cocktail as an appetizer. It came quickly, 4 large shrimp in a glass of cocktail sauce. It was a standard, not very spectacular. The sauce was spicy though which I like.

My brother had the short rib which was served on a bed of beans with a side order of perfectly fluffy and moist garlic mash. The rib fell of the bone at the slightest touch and was very flavorful, sweet, spicy and moist. Wonderful.

My mom had the salmon which she called "best salmon ever". It came with string beans with bacon and baby portabellos. The fish was flaky and juicy and delicious. The sting beans were crunchy and the bacon gave it amazing flavor. Didn't taste much of the portabellos but we didn't mind at all.

I chose the mussels in the white wine and dijon mustard. I often get mussels but this sauce was amazing. The dijon mustard made it slightly bitter - but in a good way. We used a lot of bread to sop up the sauce. It would have been a shame to waste it. The shoestring fries were nice and crispy but a little too salty.

Overall this was a wonderful dinner. By the time we left the place was hopping and we had to fight our way out. We will definitely return again.

Best breakfast food of my entire life. The smith has the best. breakfast food. That I have had in my entire life. Get the croaker!!!

A loud hidden gem. Sure it is a little loud, but this is NYC and it is a good people watching spot. I was surprised with the food. Mac and Cheese with four kinds of cheese. A pork chop that will make your eyes light up or do some bicep curls - also cooked to perfection. The chicken pot pie with a cheddar biscuit top and get this real chunks of chicken and veggies!!!! HEAVEN!

When we left, my friend thanked me for bringing him. He has lived in the neighborhood for years.
East Village Vibe
The whole experience was really relaxed and fun. My party of 10 was seated at a table nominally meant for eight, but it was only a little bit cramped and nobody complained. The downstairs room we sat in was full of groups about our size—two others also celebrating birthdays—and the server paid good attention to us.
The Drunken Tomato
The Smith’s bloody mary is practically stamped TOP SECRET on the menu. It’s made with a house recipe that the bartender wouldn’t cough up, even on a slow weekday morning. I ordered it at once, praying it was the perfect antidote to foil Evil Hangover’s mischievous plot. From the very first sip, the bloody sprang into action. An immediate fierce, peppery smash cracked like a bullwhip acro
The Culinary Creep
A large buzzing American brasserie located on 3rd Avenue, The Smith is the perfect place to road-test some classic American brunch staples. Arriving after 3pm, the busy appearance was deceiving as the wait time was only as long as it took to re-set the table.

Eat. Nosh. Nom.
The Smith hits the mark on many levels, including brunch. Here are other dishes to definitely try!
This Sht's Delicious
The grits here are like eating pure butter with a bit of cornmeal thrown in (a bit rich for my taste), but the biscuit was really quite good (and I don’t even like biscuits normally). The waiter had no idea how to describe the Rare Vos beer that I ordered though – at least he could have told me that it was from Belgium!

I really can’t say enough about the cookies. They were crispy around the edges, chewy in the middle, and studded with big chunks of chocolate. They were softened enough to bite into but not the least bit soggy from the ice cream.

Went to check out The Smith in the East Village for brunch based on a co-worker's recommendation. We immediately fell for the vintage look and the laid back feel, but it took us just as long to become unimpressed with the service. Finally we manage to get
Girl Meets Food
Not only does brunch come with your choice of a free Bloody Mary, bellini, blood orange mimosa, passion punch or fresh squeezed juice, the menu aims to please with down-to-earth, American brasserie fare. Expect country breakfast ($16) with grilled ham, biscuits and gravy; buttermilk waffles ($14) with strawberries and whipped cream; and a generous shrimp salad with fennel, orange and basil vinaigrette. Classic potato latkes get a makeover when pressed into a waffle iron. The potato waffle Benedict ($16, pictured) is crisp and potatoey, topped with a velvety spinach sauce and caramelized onions. The eggs are only slightly over-poached but easily forgiven with another sip of passion punch. Don’t miss the ranchero

For some reason, I thought The Smith was a diner. When it first opened back in November, I’d walk past it everyday on my way to campus. It has this rustic exterior, with black painted over a what seem like wooden boards and a white logo plastered on top.
The Quick And Dirty Dirty
The Smith really hit the spot for brunch. Mostly, I just loved hanging with 4 of my favorite people over egg white mushroom and fontina omelets and complimentary bloody marys!

What do you call yuppies that work tirelessly to be hipsters? In one word, huppies. Corner Table Restaurant's The Smith is, for better or for worse, a straight-up huppie heaven. In effort to buck my current trend of haute gastronomy eating (note: I've bee
