Aussie, Aussie, Aussie
Am visiting from Australia and some friends who live locally recommended this cafe. Seated straight away & the best coffee Ive had since starting my trip. A taste of home
A Very trendy but popular restaurant in the Soho area. The place is very tiny and always packed so the wait to get a table is always quite long. Despite the crowd , the service was on point. Tables are very close to each other, a very crowded atmosphere but that’s definitely the charm and very typical of New York city restaurants. The food was excellent from appetizers to main courses. The crispy Brussels sprouts was our favorite. The salad was on point and the pasta was excellent. I don’t think this place takes reservations, you just wait in line as you walk in.

Ruby’s 219 Mulberry St., (212) 925-5755. Daily 9am-10pm. There is no better place to be for lunch on a warm summer day in SoHo. That’s when this tiny Aussie-run spot opens up their entire wall to the elements, allowing happy sounds to fill the air, and it gets so overstuffed that there is always a wait. I lucked onto the best item on the menu with a simple B.L.A.T., made extraordinary with a delicious meaty bacon. My dining partners were also happy with their choices--a kale salad enhanced with pumpkin and sunflower seeds plus dried cranberries--and a portobello mushroom burger (it was more like a panini). We couldn’t resist sides of the spectacular, super-flavorful Brussels sprouts and colorful, crunchy corncakes, but that was a lot of food for three people so we lugged away the leftovers to give to a street person, but wouldn’t you know that on this beautiful day in the neighborhood we didn’t find one? So we finished them off at home.
For sure, my favorite spot in NY. Try everything, really! From burger to salads and pasta, oh well, it's the best small place in the city! Staff is kind and the food delicious - what can we ask more?
The Bronte Burger is probably one of the best sandwiches I've had to date. Dining tip: Go with a friend, split the Bronte, Chicken Avocado salad, and add a side of fries. You will not be disappointed. Small place, but worth the wait!
Great music, great price, ordered the bronze and it was great! Great balance with chili and the premium beef is exactly what you need to change up the American burger. I'd go back every week!
Had the Bronte burguer (no bun though) and it was great!! Picked on my friend's fries so I could try their sauce and it was to die for! The watermelon & mint juice was on point. Its a small cozy place with a great environment. Very aussie style and with a very friendly staff. Must go back for the brunch and the pasta!!!!
Great Coffee at Last. Thank God for Ruby's. We had tried coffee from many places in NYC that should serve a decent cup, but to no avail. Walking past, I spied the coffee machine and the adjacent bean grinders and said; "hello, we might be in here".
We go inside and sit down and it is Australiana all over, so as Aussies, our hopes are high. Thankfully, my espresso is one of the best I have had anywhere, including Italy. My wife's latte is just as good. I had to have another espresso it was so good.
When you can get a decent coffee any day of the week at any number of cafes, you get deperate for a good cup when you are deprived. Thanks Ruby's - we've told all our friends to make sure they visit when in NYC.
Ruby's: Great Aussie-style Burgers and Coffee. Leave it to the Aussies to put their spin on the great American hamburger. Who knew? Ruby's makes one hell of an Australian-style burger. I got the Whaley burger, a big fat juicy one with tomato, lettuce, beet (I took it off), pineapple, and a fried egg on top, and my dining companion had the Bronte burger with sweet chili sauce. Both were delicious!
Ruby's is tiny, cozy, and relaxed with communal tables conducive to conversation whether you come with someone or on your own. And while I haven't yet tried them, some of the sandwiches and salads named after Australian beaches--like the Bondi chicken sandwich--looked yummy.
P.S. Tip: Sunday evenings are a good time to try Ruby's. You'll get more attention from the cute waiter then...:)
P.P.S. Ruby's coffee is AWESOME and is done the Aussie way. I recommend the flat white, an espresso drink that is less milky than a latte and less foamy than a cappucino. Ruby's flat white is kill-ah.
One of my favorite spots in the city. It was packed when we came so there was a bit of a wait, but not bad. I had the Shrimp pasta which was really good. It had a little kick to it which I liked. My cousin had the Bronte burger with sweet potato fries and he loved it. And my favorite part is the dessert. Make sure to get that Sticky Toffee pudding! So good. Wish they put more ice cream. Our server was nice and service was excellent. Highly recommend.
Service was top-notch. I really appreciated the recommendations that my waiter shared. I was craving something hearty and ended up getting the Bolognese pasta, the best part is is that I was able to make a gluten-free! The music was such a vibe, I couldn’t help but to dance in my seat.
The chocolate cake was really good too. Wish I saved more room for it though!
Ruby’s is a solid spot to get food any time of day whether you go solo, with a friend or for a date. The team is friendly, the space is cosy (if a little cramped) and the food is always good. There are options for something healthy like the bowls & salads or indulgent like the loaded sweet potato fries or pastas with an added bonus of gluten free choices.
There’s often a wait, but trust that you’ll be in for a good experience
Very cute Austrian brunch place in the middle of soho! Cute for a day date or brunch w/ friends!
The food is quite good - the bronte burger was exceptional! I wouldn’t get tired of it having it twice a day.
Pasta was alright - cooked very good, nice sauce, but not too authentic in terms of flavour.
The coffee was alright - a little too sweetened.
We arrived at 10:30 on a Saturday so the wait was only 15 mins (vs >1 hr wait at noon last summer). Imo Ruby’s is a bit overhyped but a safe spot for some good Australian brunch food.
* Sweet Corn Fritters
My all-time brunch staple. I asked to substitute my bacon to salmon. Ruby’s sweet corn fritters are right up my alley: the cakes were light and fluffy, slightly crispy on the outside, filling with fresh corn kernels. 3 pieces of big fritters were ideal to share with your friends.
* Ruby's Ragu
Very average. It had a great amount of braised beef. Their other pastas look more attractive, so I will try their other options next time!
* Fries w/ Truffle Aioli
After reading tons of good reviews I expected their truffle fries to be an ultimate indulgence but it was meh. The fries were crispy and well seasoned, but I could barely taste any truffle aioli. All I could taste was only mayo.
* Ricotta Hotcakes
It came with 3 thick hotcakes, garnished with banana slices, with maple syrup and nutella on the side. We were all impressed by the honeycomb butter.
* Rose Latte, Cappuccino
Don’t order Rose Latte. It tasted artificial and weird. Our server was pleased to change my friend’s drink to a coffee. Their servers were super busy but friendly.
Have been going to Ruby’s for 8 years now. They have been always good. My go to menu is shrimp pasta and bronte burger. They are so good. Bronte burger has juicy patty. It has slightly sweet sauce inside which pairs well with the vegetables. First time trying the banana pancake. They were fluffy good and Nutella on the side can’t go wrong. This place is usually very crowded but worth the wait or I recommend going to Murray Hill location (taste the same, could also get little crowded during the dinner time) I haven’t been to East Village location. What a pleasure to have Ruby’s in New York City!
Little cosy restaurant in the mids of SOHO. Pasta, salads and desserts all tasted very yum and fresh. Loved the fact it had an Australian vibe to it. Well done!
The shrimp pasta was one of the best I’ve tried in the city. Usually there’s always a long line and the place is packed. Service was little slow on the day we went. But the food was awesome!
I absolutely love how the servers treat the customers!
The food is extremely fresh and came out of the kitchen in less than 10 mins from be being sat down!
Take a look:
SHRIMP PASTA IS MY GO TO!! (It’s been years, and this never fails)
Truly one of my favorite brunch places in the city. Options in the menu, service speed, presentation and taste received valid marks!
BUT it is a very wrong attitude to say you will wait 20 minutes and wait on the line for 1 hour. After all, we wouldn't have sat down if we knew it would happen, so I'm deducting 1 point even though I like it. Let them take this into account and give people the right timing.
