This tiny sandwich shop has a lot of outward components that seem to promise an authentic Italian experience : on a side street, an old-timey storefront that looks out of 1950, with hardly any modern decoration besides maybe an Italian soccer team poster, a black and white tiled floor, Italian music being played which you can hear from the street, a one subject menu - sandwiches, and the kicker, packed lines out the door at lunch.

I'd had a coffee before next door which was 100% Italian in every way from the pastries to the espresso quality, so i knew the sandwiches were legit. What I didn't count on was such a primo quality sandwich at such a good price.

Simple sandwiches start around $9 and can go up to $13 before tax. Prosciutto and provolone was $10, one with grilled chicken was $13. I carefully chose a $10.50 sandwich which came to $12 after tax.

My sandwich had speck, smoked provolone, smoked mozzarella, arugula, and truffle oil. Oh. M. Gee.

Not only were the ingredients of good quality but they complimented each other,

That luscious smoked cheese, the salty buttery prosciutto, the spicy arugula and that lascivious truffle oil which was applied so carefully, not in excess.

The bread was almost 2 feet long. The sandwich was enough for 2 or 3 people and I made it into three meals. The bread is fresh.

Despite a packed house - I only had to wait a few minutes for my sandwich.

You can eat at the coffee shop next door" the kind woman told me.

If you're down in Wall St area, just east of city hall, put this place on your list for a to go meal. You won't be disappointed

This place is a staple in the city. Fresh, thick cuts of meat, fresh mozzarella, fresh veggies, and the bread is all made from scratch. You want a panini or whatever you call from your neck of the woods, they got it. Plenty of choices, pretty much everything is great. Big portions, they cut the panini in 4's so two adult's can share one. Quick, friendly guys working since I've been going for ever. Small spot, only a couple tables inside, most locals take it and go to city park around the corner and sit outside. Cash only. Place is great. Simple, good, cheap, cant beat it. 4.5 stars for me...

Stopped here between visiting ground zero and the Statue of Liberty. Brilliant selection of authentic sandwiches. As a couple sharing one between the two of us was more than enough! Staff extremely friendly and happy to advise on portions / sandwiches. Good value too!

I heard & read all the great reviews of Pisillo and had to go...also looking to try new places especially downtown NYC. They call it a Panini, but it's a hero. I told them it was my forst time there. The cashier was really nice & friendly. I ordered the Pisillo Hero of course & the cashier recommended the Ciabata bread which was extra. It's very good, but for the price it was not loaded with the amount of meat as I expected (given the hype)...there is an option to add extra meat, but the hero would be getting really expensive. Also, the Ciabata bread was a bit tough to chew...would've been great if they did press it, then it would've been crunchy & easier to chew, but do not think there is an option to do so. It is a long hero & definitely large enough to share.

Great huge sandwiches

We shared the Pisillo Panini (same name as the restaurant). It excellent and was large enough for the 2 of us (1/4 left over). The restaurant is a short walk from World One Tower and the 911 Memorial.

I like this place because paninis are one of my favorite foods. I am in Manhattan for 3-6 months out of the year and my family and I like to visit this place frequently. It is not too expensive of a restaurant for being located in Manhattan, NY. I like Italian food and usually order a panini for lunch (and sometimes dinner). If im not eating at this place then I would be at one of my other favorite Italian places for dinner buying spaghetti or some other Italian dish. I would definitely give this place two thumbs up when reviewing it. Any of the paninis are good. I like to mix it up a little bit and try all of them. It is definitely a good joint to eat at.

The meat and the cheese here are imported which makes this restaurant a legit Italian restaurant. The food is tasty and the service is good and prompt. The jumbo Italian sandwiches are awesome here.

If you're looking for a tasty lunch in the financial district not far from the 9/11 memorial then this is the place to visit. It's a small takeaway that doesn't look anything special but they serve great Italian sandwiches with fresh top quality imported ingredients at good value prices, especially when you bear in mind that one of their beasts is plenty for two to share. We split a smoked mozzarella and hot chilli sandwich. The chillis sure were hot but it made for a damn tasty lunch. Believe the hype!

I ordered my sandwich on the J going over the bridge, and it was ready by the time I got to Fulton Street! Recommend ordering ahead if you don’t have cash. The sandwiches are huge and definitely splittable. I got a mozzarella and hot pepper sandwich on the sesame bread—incredible bread and great flavors on the sandwich.

Oh this is 100% worth the hype. I love that it looks like an assuming stop & very glad our friend recommended it. Not sure if the man himself usually works here but he was there when we went so maybe that's why it was that extra special but honestly, these sandwiches are AMAZING. We're from Europe, so the sizes were quite intimidating and split two sandwiches between 4: the special (a spicy wonder that I'm still dreaming of) on a sub & the house special on focaccia. The foccacia looks dense but tastes so soft and fresh! The meat is very well flavoured and the layers of veg, salad, & sauces is just perfection. This is everything I dreamed of in a New York sandwich / sub. It is 100% worth the time. Also, do ask if you'd like it cut into halves or quarters, and you can take it to eat for later (which still holds up, as I was the wuss of the group who couldn't finish mine).

Got the pisillo on ciabatta, a little under $20. Long sandwich, like 12-14 inches long. Definitely recommend sharing it. Initial bites I would give an 8/10. After the first half, the remaining got a bit tiring, 7/10. Would like if they had hot sandwiches.

Amazing sandwich! This small sandwich shop has a big menu with amazing sandwiches. You can choose different type of rolls. I had a special, which was very tasteful, the ingredients were full of flavor and were from a high quality. When ordering in shop it’s cash only, but you can order online too and pay by card that way. Prices are ok. Avg around $18-22 The service is really good, friendly and helpful. They work fast. Shop is small with only a few seats.

This is hyped up for a reason. Split the special and 17 to taste both and they were great. You can taste how fresh the meat is. The sandwiches are huge. It’s cash only but there’s an ATM inside if you forget.

Love the place...I discovered this little corner of pure italian food, in 2016 and as soon as O could come back to NY, I didn't waste time and had my big italian sandwich...if ypu are around Ground Zero, visiting the area of One Wprld Trade Centre, I strongly suggest to give a bite to the fantqstic sandwitches they make. You won't be disappointed, believe me. The place is small inside, so better grab the sandwich and eat it in the Ground Zero park, but if there is space left, ypu can also eat inside. Enjoy...

Fantastic Italian sandwich shop just a block from WTC. As others have said the sandwiches are huge and will do many people for two meals! Fresh and tasty. Huge amounts of prosciutto in the #2 Napoli. Will be back when next in NYC.

I have a high bar for any sandwich shop. This place is an easy 5/5. Multiple selections for bread and both the ciabatta and regular hero were perfectly crunchy on the outside and chewy soft in the middle. The prosciutto, sopressata , etc were all sliced goldlilocks not too thick not too thin (for a sandwich). The mootz was fresh. I got the #8 The Palermo if you like a little kick 🌶️ this one’s for you. My wife got the #17 Trieste added salami and loved it. Most importantly, the sandwiches were big. Not Sal Kris Charlie big but just right for someone with a solid appetite to be satisfied, all for $16 a pop. Easy 5/5, easily coming back here esp since I work in the area.

Been trying to get down here ever since my buddy informed me that the sister spot in Chelsea made incredible sandwiches. Light work day for a Friday so I rounded up some coworkers to take a walk to the shop. It's Cash Only with an ATM in the establishment if you are short of cash. I believe the boss was working the slicer. I got the #1 The Milano on the white roll, under $20, weighed about 5lbs and it was absolutely delicious. I couldn't finish the whole sandwich, only able to eat half so I saved the rest for dinner. It was still delicious about 7 hours later.

Excellent large Italian sandwiches. This place is always using the most fresh ingredients. It may look like a small hole in the wall shop but there is a lot of love in their food. Well done!
