As we pulled into the Outer Bank to start our week long vacation, we stopped for lunch in Nags Head on our way to Kill Devil Hills. Our first couple of stops were only serving breakfast or brunch. We moved on to Yellow Submarine and found our lunch just after 12:30 on a Sunday. Our table for ten was ready immediately and many of the other tables were also occupied or would soon be filled with hungry patrons. The long bar stayed empty but would make a good spot for a quick dinner if the tables were all full.
Went in about an hour before closing, service wasn't anything special but no problems, got the OBX Chicken White and it was devine...so much cheese and came out super hot, the cheese pizza was also good, also got some boneless wings which were good but needed more sauce but were still good...prices were ok, will be back!
Recommend. Great wings, not greasy
Chef salad was good.
Pizza okay
Typical, but good. We've eaten here 3 times in our 2 Obx trips. Great for a quick bite, that's not a chain. Good subs, great fries, bit of a wait. Busy but that's typical during a June lunch rush.
Yellow sub. Great subs and good people!
Stopped by to grab lunch. Gentleman that took our order was very friendly. We had the basket of onion rings, the Chicken Ranch sub and the Italian Grinder. Everything was fresh and the onion rings were the best I’ve ever had. So crunchy. Definitely be back soon.
We are here visiting from Virginia and were referred by our hotel receptionist after we inquired about a good place to get a cheesy pizza. She recommended Yellow Submarine and we decided to give them a try. We ordered the wings and a pepperoni pizza with extra sauce and extra cheese. We were not disappointed. It was so much better than any pizza we had back home from Pizza Hut. We will definitely order again thank you so much for making a Great Pie!
A nice experience. We went because my adult special needs son loves the song they named their eatery after.
The food was good. The atmosphere was nice. The owner donated a shirt for an autism benefit we were doing just shortly after our trip.
These guys are serious sandwich builders. My wife had a 6" turkey sub while I like a 6" spicy Italian sub. Both were jam packed with meat, lettuce, tomatoes and cheese. In other words, everything that's supposed to be in or on a sandwich was present and accounted for.
If I had to complain about something, it would be that when I ordered and paid for the food up front, the machine automatically asked how much to tip. I told the guy, "its already asking me how much to tip you". I don't tip until AFTER I eat to see how good it is or isn't and how good the service is or isn't. The guy quickly bypassed the message, we ate and left a good tip.
My husband and I had the meat lovers pizza with a house salad. The salad was very fresh and the pizza was so delicious. When we crave pizza, we'll definitely return.
I love the pizza, but the wings could use a little work they were mushy. I've ordered them before and they tasted the same way I thought maybe it was just that one time but order them again and the same thing. Some people might like them that way, but I like mine crunchy.
Down for the weekend and was recommended Yellow Submarine! Got a large half cheese half pepperoni and it was a 10/10. Crust was crunchy. Perfect amount of cheese and pepperoni was so good!! Highly highly recommended!!
Ordered sandwiches for supper after a day on the beach...we had the Italian grinder and the club. Both were so delicious!! Ignore any negative reviews, some people just have their nose outta joint. This place has great food!!

My wife and I split the chicken Philly, grilled chicken cooked with white onions, sauteed green peppers, and mushrooms. This is topped with lettuce, tomato, mayo, and white American cheese, served with potato chips (6-inch: $8.49, 12-inch: $13.49). Overall this is a very filling sandwich and the taste was good. There is plenty of cheese on top, which is a requirement for a solid Philly.
The start of the meal were the rip curl appetizer we shared with the table. These are pizza dough brushed with extra virgin olive oil, fresh garlic, Italian seasonings, and stuffed with Mozzarella cheese and pepperoni, sliced into pinwheels then baked (12 count for $17.48). These are awesome and highly recommended! A smaller 6 count is available for a smaller group.
Overall the prices are a little high, but that often comes with tourist destinations. Our service was excellent and the food was good.
Yellow Submarine offers delicious pizza and a variety of subs and salads. Located in the shopping center between Home Goods and Fresh Market, it is easy to access. They have some indoor seating and 2 outdoor picnic tables. They offer great to-go service as well. Our favorites are the meat lovers pizza and Greek salad - large portion and always super fresh!
