The line here is quite ridiculous, but you have the option of ordering pick up. However the site kindly advises if you order pick up not to dine at their picnic table as it is reserved for in person. This kinda makes sense even though the line was pretty long.
We were looking forward to their famous clam strips and scallop basket, both you could not go wrong with. I've had tons of clam strips from various locations and these folks have it down right as far as texture, batter, freshness and the right temperature served. I couldn't even begin to count how many scallops were in the other box. Possibly 18 huge, fresh tasting pieces do the price of roughly $33 before tax. That's a deal. The fries I was not quite happy about. Given how busy this location was, the fries came out solid rock hard. Not the kind of crispy we were looking for..
Overall the Clam and Scallops are so worth the wait and visit. 🩵
The whole belly clams and onion rings were very good and also the fresh lemonade. I really enjoyed the blueberry hand pie for dessert. Alcoholic drinks were available inside, as well as restrooms, but most of the seating was outside. It was a nice Autumn day so I didn’t mind sitting outside. Nice scenery , too. The line went pretty quickly, but it is always long, so expect to wait.
This is a must visit when you are in Kennebunkport. The clam strips and the scallops were cooked perfectly...not chewy or rubbery...just absolute fried perfection!
The onion rings are a wonderful accessory to the seafood! And the atmosphere outside by the hustle and bustle of the port just makes for a Heavenly coastal setting!
The freshly made lemonade is the best way to wash down your gullet!
I had a fantastic experience at The Clam Shack in Kennebunkport, Maine. The deep fried clams were incredibly crispy without being greasy, and the lobster roll was a delight with its sweet and fresh lobster meat. The crab sandwich was also impressive, and the toasted buns added a perfect touch. I've already been back twice just for their amazing deep fried clams. The Clam Shack is a must-visit for its outstanding seafood and flavors that leave a lasting impression. Their clam chowder is amazing!
First time in Kennebunkport, Maine and this was our first stop after a long drive from MTL for a late lunch. Surprise to see a lineup but this was a busy area. The beautiful weather, picnic tables, good vibe sets the stage for a great lunch. I thought the lobster rolls and clam strips were good but the star for me is the clam chowder, it was fresh and was outstanding. As mentioned by others, the price is *ridiculous* and don’t give me inflation as an excuse…at $30 USD or about $40 CAD for 1 lobster roll that is barely a snack…I don’t understand why such high price. I could get 2 good size lobsters at this price in Montreal. Oh well…cost of the experience.
I follow Gale Simmons from Top Chef and she ate here so I knew it had to be good! It was my favorite place in Maine. My husband and I wanted good food and a place to dry from battling rain on the motorcycle. I love how you can see the prep with the open kitchen. The food truck was fast and we got our food right away.
We ordered the clam chowder. It was so rich and delicious with big chunks of clam. We were hesitant about the lobster roll being too small, but it packs a big punch. You have to get both butter and mayo! The bread was nicely toasted and the sandwich had huge chunks of Iobster. The best way! We ended with a blueberry hand pie. I could have had another lobster roll and pie. This is a must eat and I can’t wait to come back!
As my wife and I planned our road trip this place came up on every guide and suggested places to stop. It most definitely did not disappoint, the food was so fresh and tasty it was hard not to order more. We tried the lobster roll with hot butter, the fried clam strips whic I had never had but were very good and of course some clam chowder. Many people just ordered at the window and took their food to go. There is some limited available seating in the building next to the ordering window that offers adult beverages, some keepsakes and a look at some of thier fresh seafood.
I was told that they run out of clams each day just hours after opening and I can understand why. The clam chowder was beyond delicious. I wish I asked for several servings of it. The lobster roll was fantastic and the portion size was excellent. It’s my new spot whenever I am around.
Best fried clams I've ever had! The guy told me they are hand shucked just for the Clam Shack, and that there's a little piece of the clam that's chewy and they cut that off! Didn't know that. True or not, the clams were tender, light crispy batter, just perfect. My daughter has been sampling lobster rolls all over Maine and this was by far the best.
We got there at 2:00 and walked right up to the window. I understand at peak times the line stretches down the street, so plan your visit accordingly! But it's worth the wait!
The clam shack is a fun place to visit! I had the lobster roll lunch box, and it was great. I recommend getting it with butter and mayo. The lunch box is a little bit spendy, but the lobster tastes fresh, and they give you a decent amount of lobster on the roll. The location is right on the water and has plenty of seating. I recommend getting there early because it gets busy pretty fast. Parking is a little difficult, so I had to park a bit away, but the area is a really nice walk with lots of shops and sites to see on the way.
