UPDATE - I was immediately contacted about the previous problem. We were provided with a gift certificate. We went in for breakfast today. The food was excellent. Especially good we’re the waffles & grits. Our server took great care of us. Our drinks were never empty. We did not tell them we had a gift certificate until the end of the meal, so that we would get a true representation of food & service. I’d now go back and try dinner again. Thank you Gumbo Dinner for the excellent customer service! Food was ok, we had Shrimp & Grits , no spices or real flavor at all; crawfish etoufee was just ok, I’ve had much better; fried seafood platter was good but they only brought shrimp & it took forever to get the oysters & fish filet that was supposed to come on the platter. Service was poor, had to ask for a spoon three times, no drink refills, very inattentive - especially since they were not busy.

My husband and I have traveled to Galveston two Summer's in a row, from Northwest Arkansas, over 9 hours away. Both times we made it a point to eat breakfast at this charming little place. The views are incredible and the service is top notch. If I could give them 6 stars, I would. This past week we made not 1, but 2 stops at the Gumbo Diner. The first time we came in, we had coffee and breakfast. When we finished our meal we asked for our ticket, to which our waitress promptly replied: "The couple who sat next to you paid for both of your meals, you are good to go." I had noticed a couple to our right, staring at me, I thought perhaps my wild Jeep hair was giving them something to grin about; however, I was immensely suprised. This was more than kind, this was a blessing. The world is full of good people and many of them live, work, and visit Galveston Island. This giving couple paid for our meals and theirs and left before we even knew. Wow! Thank you for your hospitality, attention to detail, and delicious food. All the way from Arkansas, I appreciate you! Keep doing what you're doing!

I have seen this place fir a long time but never stopped. Well I did today and it was great ! The food portions are great. The price is fair on most items. They serve breakfast all day! We had the gumbo, chicken & sausage and my friend had the seafood gumbo. The flavors were on point. Have to try the Gator beer! The staff was on their game, very attentive and friendly. Local customers chatted with us about all the meals they had here and loved. I’ll definitely be back.

We drove up and down the seawall looking for a place to eat, we all know that drill! Do we want to sit outside, maybe it's to windy, maybe indoors will be more cozy?? After renting a 4 seater bike we were hungry!! Finally, we decided on the Gumbo Diner!! I got the fried Catfish and it was delicious and we got appetizer of fried pickles and I loved it! Can't wait to try breakfast here!

The food was Fresh Fast and AMAZING! The wait staff is great. Restroom clean. Also, ordered the beignets. Wonderful, like I had back in Lake Charles LA. We will gladly drive 1.4 hours again. MD

We stopped by here for a late dinner after a long day of driving. The food was hot and tasted great. The portion sizes were very large, but thankfully my husband and I were splitting and it worked out perfectly. We were both very full leaving. The waitress was very attentive and our drinks never ran out.

We had shrimp and grits, macaroni and cheese, and beignets for dessert. The food was delicious. This was shared amongst two people. The service was outstanding and it had a very nice decor. If you're in the area I highly recommend this little place.

Oh my goodness! Everything was SO delicious! And portion sizes are generous! I.am.stuffed! So, we ordered the Shrimp & Grits— de-light-ful!—grits were so flavorful & the cheese blend was scrumptious; the shrimp tasted so fresh and was cooked perfectly! The hubs had the Bourbon Street Platter & I had the Seafood Platter, subbed an extra filet of fish for the oysters. It was flaky and moist and seasoned very well. Again, the shrimp is fresh, not frozen & cooked just right. Loved this experience. And Crystal, our server, was very helpful and provided great service, making this one of the best things about Galveston. We will definitely add to our favorites list & will be back each time we come to town.

Awesome service, location, food and prices! Husband had the Abita andygator beer 8% alc. Def tasty! Along with the Largest bowl of chicken and sausage gumbo we’ve ever seen! We won’t have to cook dinner for 2 more nights! He likes good fried okra and we gave theirs a try and wow! It did not disappoint! HUGE bowl, lightly breaded, fried, served HOT and perfect! Delicious! I had the fried shrimp platter - omgeeee - best shrimp I’ve had in a long time! Perfectly butterflied, lightly breaded and fried and so so tender!! Omgosh! So good! And half at least half of it for dinner tomorrow! Even the fries were great! Crinkle cut, nicely fried and so full of potato! Oh and everything was served HOT!! It was fantastic! We will be back!

This place was absolutely delicious! As people who were just traveling our amazing waitress, Karen, was so incredibly helpful on what we should get. Let us try the gumbo, and the mimosas were out of this world! highly recommend !

Was welcomed by the tantalising aroma of freshly-baked waffles so of course, had to try them, and they didn’t disappoint - so yummy. Also Had the gumbo and it was delicious. The sizing is generous so the ‘lil daddy’ option is more than enough for one person. If you’re also doing appetisers, then it’s still too much :)

Excellent meal with a view of the ocean. The jalapenos stuffed with seafood was really good. The staff was great. The beignets were better than the ones we have had in Nola. The Po boy was giant! All around a good dining experience. Prices were just a little higher than I would have liked, but that is all restaurants lately. We would recommend this place and will visit again when we are in the area.
