Marlo's Taco Shack

The inside is very personal. It’s small. The elbow room is close. The “chef” is slow! It’s insane for that they offer on their menu. It’s just different food rearranged. They make their food with no gloves!! This shop is too small to not do the little things. Being old is no excuse for no hygiene. If you’re desperate, try it. If you want authentic, move on! Drive through ain’t no better!

My dearest friend and I are having a girl's day and went for tacos. Found this fine establishment. "Six pack" of tacos, ground beef. Chips, complimentary cheese dip and chicken nachos. We are stuffed as a tick! The ladies working this afternoon were friendly, helpful and just dang nice. 4 stars cuz the tacos could've use a bit more meat. 😉 We LOVED the seasoning of the chicken nachos!

What does authentic mean? If you do something the same way for 50 years, is it authentic yet? Marlo's is a great place to get a very authentic American Tex-Mex experience. It's not an authentic Mexican Taqueria experience. It's not Taco Bell fast food. It's something else entirely, something that is very difficult to find elsewhere. Marlo's offers a classic American, Tex-Mex menu. Tex-Mex used to be everywhere in the US, but has been pushed out by a appetites for either Taco Bell fast food or a more authentic Mexican flavor. Somewhere "Tex-Mex" got lost, and now almost no restaurant would claim they serve "Tex-Mex" anymore. What Marlo's serves is American. It's what was served all over the country in the 70's and 80's when Tex-Mex restaurants were a staple at a mall or main street. A lot of people don't like that, and you can read them here complaining about how this isn't real, or it's like a cafeteria Mexican dinner, and maybe it is like a cafeteria Mexican dinner, but it's like a GOOD cafeteria Mexican dinner. When you were a kid, did you skip packing your sack lunch on taco day? Or did you ask your parents to let you eat at your friends house because their mom was making tacos or enchiladas? Or do your remember a great Tex-Mex dinner at a camp or church cafeteria? Marlo's is making something that you want to try.

I got the enchilada salad and I was not very impressed. To be fair, the person taking my order did warn me that they were out of guacamole, and apparently that makes the dish better, but I really don't see how. There's only one tiny enchilada that's surrounded by maybe two handfuls of very thin shredded lettuce and cheese sauce and little bit of diced tomatoes... I ate the enchilada and discarded the warm iceberg lettuce-cheese sauce mixture. Again, even if there were Guacamole in it, it would be even more soupy I think. I really like this place! The people working there are very nice, and I usually enjoy my meal. This time it was a very disappointing meal and I feel like I paid way too much for very little food.

The flavors here aren't like every other Mexican restaurant around. The rice has a great flavor, tacos are warm and crunchy, and the chicken taco salad is good. They only have one salsa/hot sauce. So be warned it is pretty spicy of you're sensitive to the heat. It does have a good flavor. It's not "fast food". So if you order in the drive through window, expect to wait at least 5 minutes. The chicken taco salad was big. The taco dinner with 2 tacos was a good lunch size thought it didn't give you enough for the 2 sides because the rice was so good! My only concern, which has nothing to do with the taste of the food or the good work the restaurant puts into everything it makes could happen anywhere, is the rice was so hot in the to-go box it melted the styrofoam. A tiny piece of foil or liner could help keep that from getting in the food. Still a good and quick lunch. I will keep coming.
