Came from out of state, looking for someplace to sit down and eat as a family after a long day. The food was fantastic, and the staff and owner even more so. Loved everything about the place, and would definitely go back! Thank you guys so much!
This place is fantastic! The food is great and the owner is also very friendly. I personally enjoy their hand breaded tenderloins but I will be trying their hot beef sandwhich VERY soon!
Best places to eat in the Cedar Valley for regular downhome cuisine.. Steamboat Gardens is an icon in the Cedar Valley -- nearing its 50th or 60th yr. Joel Hundley is the third generation owner. And, he has done his family proud by continuing to offer the same recipes resulting in their high quality food. He has made some amendments to the menu. Such as, adding salad variations and smothered chops that are to die for. However, he consistently maintains the original offerings that made Steamboat Gardens the wonderful family restaurant: tenderloins is three sizes, burritos that can feed 2 and combo appetizer baskets that take care of everybody -- both in amount and variety of food.

One of the best Fried Pork Tenderloins. If you're in Waterloo, Iowa then you HAVE TO stop here for their Fried Pork Tenderloin called The Tugboat.
The thing is HUGE, tasty and almost plate size. When I come home from Florida it is one of the first places I hit up. Gotta get that Tenderloin fix. Southerners have no clue what it is and it is unobtainable in Jacksonville, FL. 👿
The Steamboat has been around for 80 years. Also, when I was still there in the 'Loo Friday Nights was an AYCE Cod/Walleye/Pollock night. Beautifully fried golden brown thick cut fish. Drooling just thinking about it!
It's name comes from a time that it used be shaped like a steamboat, but when they moved the name stayed but the shape didn't.
Now the Steamboat isn't a fancy joint inside or out, but the chow is tasty & the service great. 3rd shifters may come in at 0700 grab a beer and some breakfast. No jacket & Tie required. It's just CAYA.
So feel free to be laid back, grab your favorite female, enjoy a tasty beverage, nosh on some good chow, and be glad you're alive! :)
