El Patron Mexican Restaurant

The service was great. The tacos were delicious. I'm from out of town and went with my in laws. Three of us split the margarita pitcher. The margaritas are good and overly strong. All three of us are grown adults and we all left, dare I say, too buzzed. Thankfully my daughter was with us and was our DD. So my advice is absolutely go here. Everything was great but make sure you have a designated driver because ONE pitcher was more than enough for 3 adults.

Very delicious. I’m super picky about flavors. When the salsa arrived with warm chips, it was a good start. The salsa was terrific, just the right spice; so I ordered guacamole, which is always a test for good flavor. It too was terrific, so an appetizer was certainly to follow. The Camarones Al Mojo De Ajo, shrimp sautéed in garlic butter with mushrooms and onions were fabulous. The shrimp was fresh, cooked perfectly, and the flavor was delightful. The entree was the Patron Combo, steak, chicken, shrimp, sautéed with onions, peppers, and special sauce; it was deliciously special; wow!! Large portions and big enough to share. I’m grateful for the excellent flavors. We were there during a very busy surge. Front of the house service was definitely a little chaotic, and stressed; no real organization or flow, but you can tell this is a true Small Business, and they are working very hard. I’m a small business owner, I give them a break for the chaotic front of the house, because I can see how hard they trying. Casual atmosphere, clean bathrooms, and reasonably priced. El Patron Mexican Restaurant is really great Mexican food In Waterloo Iowa.

Always a delight when we are able to eat here! The main "amigos" is a wonderful guy - so vibrant and full of life! Makes a person want to come in and eat! I get it that covid affected ao many small businesses. This affected our experience this particular evening, as it was a busy nite & only the one lady waitress. I dont want to base our one bad night here to vouch for the rest or the amazing times. The food was hot and tasty. Get your appetites ready for a huge plate of food! We always get a to-go box because one person just cant eat a whole dinner themselves! I got the blancos 3 enchiladas! Their mexi rice is the BEST in the county, in my personal opinion = very moist! For two dinners, two sodas & cheese dip (the best!), our ticket was about $40. We will always be back!

It's pleasant to eat outside in Waterloo, weather and restaurant permitting. I had a Burrito and the person I was with had the Fajita combo. Both were good. We didn't have alcohol drinks this time, but the Margaritas are usually good. We got a mixture of taco chips. I prefer the thinner ones with medium sauce. ( Unfortunately I didn't mention this and we ended up with the more hot.)

Went in for lunch and it was alright. I do come from Texas where the TexMex is very good, but considering it wasn't bad. The main food was pretty good. The major drawback was the salsa which just tasted like onion water and the chips were stale. I also always appreciate an attentive server, but my waitress came around so often it was a bit too much. Despite her regular check-ins I didn't receive a refill on my drink for a few of them.

Kid working was extremely rude! There was no one other than him and his girlfriend in a corner booth kissing and as soon as we walked in he said out loud “oh great” then a couple walked in behind us and he got mad. My food had hair in it and the kid was rude while we tried to order. Was more concerned about his concerned with his girlfriend than anything
