Birch is new to the scene, and we were impressed overall. We hope this restaurant will succeed, we'll return in a year or so to see how it's improved, and we recommend everyone give it a shot now. Two elements of our date experience topped the list: the view of Lake Union and the cook quality of the proteins and vegetables. Birch sits atop the White Swan Public House with huge windows to see the marina, Lake Union, Westlake across the water, the Space Needle, and Gasworks Park to the north. Gorgeous. Birch offered a three course tasting menu, and Chef Jeffrey Kessenich cooked our well-selected salmon tartare, scallops and steak to the perfect temperature and tenderness. Sourcing for Birch is outstanding - the ingredients were fresh, bright, and authentic Northwest. But 3 and 4 stars? Food: as good as Chef cooked, his dishes lacked a complexity of flavor and proper seasoning. A Wagyu steak needs salt, and so do the potatoes that accompany it. While the salmon had citrus to brighten the flavor, the accompanying crackers had little flavor. The salad was excellent but morel mushrooms are as earthy as can be; a second note of heat or even a goat cheese to provide a different earthy experience would have produced better balance. Every dish had a superb foundation, but every dish needed more notes, primarily adding seasoning to most dishes and sprinkling heat throughout the meal would have done wonders. Service: not quick, unfortunately, particularly given that we were among few diners at the new restaurant. Ambience: As good as the view is, the ambience does not take overall advantage of it. The lighting is a bit bright and the decor is cold. Birch's choice of wood for its paneling and stainless accents provide a very clean look, but the venue is neither inviting nor romantic. Fabric, please! Color, please! For a new restaurant Birch has a lot of horsepower - some decor and flavor fine tuning will place it among the top restaurants in Seattle.

Fantastic meal. Each course was the perfect amount and used super fresh and unique ingredients. Our server was very helpful and was able to recommend the perfect wine pairing with our meal.

I was visiting Seattle for a couple days, and I'm so glad I decided to take a chance on a new restaurant during my stay. From the pleasant and accommodating staff to the spectacular view, everything was perfect. And the food, oh the food! Everything was delicious, but the scallops and the albacore were probably my favorite. Dessert is a MUST because the chocolate hazelnut torte is to die for.

Had a wonderful experience! We enjoyed every course, as well as the beautiful sunset view. The restaurant opens only for 2 months every year, and it’s maintained by a small and friendly team. Very special :)

Nicely decorated restaurant with great service. For the food, we had the seven course tasting menu, it was ok, nothing stood out. The portion was too small, most of us left while still feeling hungry.

Phenomenal seven course food and wine pairing for a price that can't be beat. All of the dishes were elegant and delicious, the wine was spot on, and service was cheerful, smart and crisp. It's incredible that a 3 person team is serving up one of Seattle's best restaurant experiences and best kept secrets. You must go as it's only open for two months each summer. Hugely memorable experience; we look forward to coming back.

This is a really interesting space. They're only open Friday and Saturday because they serve food to the dental school next door for the rest of the week. The space is very nice and has a very lovely view of Lake Union. It's all wood, though, so there is a pretty loud din and they'd be well served by adding some noise dampening. The tasting menu was a nice amount of food with a good variety of flavor and texture, and the wine pairings were nice too. We received lovely service and really enjoyed our meal.

This restaurant is awesome! We were on vacation in Seattle and Birch was highly recommended, it did not disappoint! The restaurant was easy to find and there was parking available. The decor was elegant and seating was very comfortable. The views of the lake through the large windows were amazing, we enjoyed watching the seaplanes take off and land. The wait staff was attentive and very knowledgable about the menu. My husband had; fried squash blossoms, sweet corn agnolotti and Alaskan scallops. It was all very good, he loved the combination of flavors. The scallops were cooked superbly! I had; heirloom tomatoes with basil and balsamic, ricotta gnocchi(amazing!) Alaskan salmon(best I've ever had!) and the peaches were an inspired addition. To complete the meal, I had the dark chocolate hazelnut tart. To die for! We highly recommend this restaurant! A must do for any visitor to Seattle as well as locals.

Gorgeous view of Lake Union and the Space Needle, and the food was so, so good. Highlights included the lamb and the chocolate torte. I definitely wish I'd opted for the tasting menu because I had trouble narrowing down my selection, and I will absolutely have to go back to try other options. Staff is attentive and ambiance is inviting and intimate.

Spare and clean and right on the water. I get the feeling the designer did not want to interfere with the naturalness. The choice of white decor accentuates the boats that float by perfectly. I never had gnocchi stuffed with ricotta but it was astounding. Complaint: portion too small. Top shelf location execution rivals any spot on the planet.
