This is an updated review as on our last visit to Thai Orchid in San Jose we noticed the quality of the food has declined. It is under new ownership as the food tastes heavily of MSG and was extremely salty. Sadly, post covid you can tell the food is not fresh anymore.
We like having dinner at Thai Orchid during the weekdays because it's less crowded than the lunch hour. It's pretty quiet unless noisy customers are having dinner. The food is reasonably priced and the staff is friendly. The wait time for our dinner is decent, no long wait times. The portion sizes are good for sharing with family or friends. Parking is free.
Seafood Tom Ka Soup is good! Pad See Eew is salty. Sauteed Calamari is good but oily (it's my first time to have this dish).
Lot of Vegetarian options. Fried Tofu with Dipping was delicious for the starter. Main dish with PadThai Noodle. They can customize as per your needs. Good balance of Veggies in the bowl. If you need spicy, You will need to specify them or you might get the medium spicy food. Such a nice Decoration indoor to give you the Thai Feel! Such a nice family own restaurant. Very polite service.
When I lived here I ate here often. Now when I visit I make sure to have duck curry at least once. Awesome.
The food was very good. The service was helpful and polite.
It gets very busy during the week day lunch rush. Parking is limited to difficult.
Pad Woon Sen always reminds me of a homecooked meal from home. I enjoy getting it from here! The noodles are cooked well, so they don't stick together. The dish is a bit oily, but overall savory and flavorful. They give lots of cabbage and egg. I appreciate that the chicken was tender! If you come during lunch, they give you complimentary veggie soup too.
I also tried the Pad Thai and it was delicious! Flavored very well and had the perfect chewy noodles. It's pretty oily though, especially if you pair it with fried tofu. More oily than the pad woon sen.
I recommend bringing your own water bottle if you can. Not sure if it was an off day or if the tap water is just THAT gross... but the glass of water they served me tasted like soap!
Nice little place to try Thai cuisine. Even mildly spicy option was enough to make me sweat 😅
Prices are low and portion size is reasonable.
Very friendly and polite service.
They don’t have much drinks choice.
Interior is very simple, but they have some interesting art pieces on the walls.
On weekday evening the place was almost empty, we got the table right away and didn’t wait long for our meal to be ready.
The place is cozy and has a very welcoming feel. The food is delicious and the people are friendly and prompt. The house fried rice was especially tasty and the experience was very satisfying. Great place for conversation.
The food was good but not the best. The veggie spring rolls were pretty good. The pineapple fried rice was decent but the pad Kee mow was a bit lacking. The service was really good and the waitress was very responsive. They take a maximum of 2 credit cards. It gets busy around 8 PM on weekday evenings.
Great place for a quick lunch. Friendly staff. The yellow curry was delicious and just the right amount of spice. I got medium and enjoyed it
