Review Chowders Inc - San Francisco

Wanted to try the chowder but sadly it has bacon in it so not halal, muslim beware. But we had the seafood platter since they were not beer battered. The seafood were fresh, and tasty but the batter was bit plain and had no flavor. Luckily the tartar and red sauce rescued the batter. Fries were thick cut and had perfect crispy texture on the outside and fluffy in the inside. Servers were very welcoming and helpful. Had a nice view of the pier as well.

SO SO GOOD! The Clam Chowder is the speciality and it is super tasty! I had so much food and it was REALLY GOOD! forget for once about hamburgers or other things that you can have everywhere and try something LOCAL!

Food was awesomse. Loved the sourdough bread bowl with a healthy helping of Chowder. So good. Also sampled the chicken sandwich as well as the shrimp and crab sandwich with the calamari fried rings. Really good. Enjoyed the atmosphere. And the location was right at the beginning pier. Love the sound and scenery. Staff was quick and efficient and did a really good job getting the food out quickly. The pricing is the pricing. It's Cali so prepare for a pricey selection.

Ordered a clam chowder and fish and chips. The fish and chips were good, hot and tasty with the tartar sauce. The clam chowder bowl was very creamy and good portion of clams. The bread part of the bowl is a lot but the portion is good and works out well when you can tear the bread apart to clean up the last of the chowder.

My son's friend told us the clam chowder is a must try so since we had time to spare before our ferry tour, we decided on a quick stop to have clam chowder and oh boy best decision ever. It was so good and the sour dough was also amazing. We tried the crab cakes, and that was amazing too.

Had a little over a half hour before leaving on a whale watching tour and stopped in to see if we could try the clam chowder. Served immediately, fresh and hot in a sourdough bun. Hit the spot before heading out. Filled with clams and other ingredients and in a fun lively spot on pier 39. Simple and convenient of you aren’t wanting to sit down for a longer meal!

Love this place!! Amazing view of the ocean, love how fast the food is, and staff is very friendly! The food is amazing, super tasty and fresh! Our favorites are the clam chowder in the bread bowl and the sample baskets!

One of the best places to try clam chowder! Creamy, flavorful and delicious. Liked their presentation of clam chowder in a sourdough bun bowl. The portion size is on the higher end and can easily satiate two. The seafood platter gives a glimpse of all of their breaded fried seafood served with fries and it's pretty good. Try to get seated outdoors. The vibes are so good.

we got an order of the bread bowl with the clam chowder to go as it was a cold night and there wasn't immediate parking available for us. the bread which made up the bread bowl was absolutely delicious and kept it's shape while scooping up the soup itself. i would definitely say that the soup was really good and not skimpy on the serving size either. it had a great flavor but not too overbearing where you can't finish it. i wish i could've actually gotten another one but that was just because we were hungry but it is a great portion size and at a good price as well. i know this is somewhat of a tourist attraction but i had no issue with the price, quality or service here.

We came at odd timing and there wasn’t much people. Service was quick, gotten a clam chowder in sourdough bowl, which was good but a little too salty for my liking.

I heard the Clam Chowder in San Francisco was pretty good and this place was near the top of the list. It's fast, easy to order. You literally get the chowder right after ordering. They were really nice and let us sit 8 people in there while it was pretty busy. The vibe is pretty nice. It has a great view of the water. Some outdoor seating. Too bad it had rained the day we went or else we would have sat outside. The staff was super friendly as well, really helpful. The chowder was excellent as well. I mean it was chowder. It tasted like all the others i've had. But i devoured it. I mean the bowl and everything. I would highly recommend checking this place out when in the area. it's right in a touristy area, pretty affordable and really easy to walk in, eat and go while on a trip.

The food was so good. Worth the price. We were full and happy leaving. We got TWO orders of the crab cakes because they were so good we needed a second order, the fish and chips which were also delicious, and the white clam chowder in a bread bowl which was AMAZING. So much meat in the crab cakes and $8.99 for two?! Beats all the restaurants around! And the fish in the gosh and chips was no joke. Not too much breading. So worth the price. We sat at the tables outside which was fine. The employees were nice and efficient. We didn’t wait long and everything was fresh.

Chowders have amazing crab-shrimp sandwiches. The sandwich is crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The triangle shape makes it easy to consume.

Being at Pier 39 one has a lot of options. We randomly picked this and the clam chowder was a must try. As for the fish I found it to be bland without the tartar sauce.

Good food at great prices with a really nice view of the Pier. Quick service with ample indoor and outdoor seating. We had the clam chowder (red, Manhattan style) in the sourdough bread bowl, fish and chips, fish salad bowl and crab meat sandwich and chicken sandwich. All of them were good with the fish salad being the best and red clam chowder being a close second. The red chowder seemed to taste like marinara with clam though with a great bread. The also have soda and hot beverages.

I tried 2 clam chowders near this place before making a stop here. This was the best of the 3 chowders I tried. Sourdough bowl was delicious too. Definitely worth a try if you’re looking for a good clam chowder, although I found it a little saltier than I would normally prefer.
