Excellent! Affordable priced. Great service. Super tasty food. Good music. The "spicy" version isn't so hot that you can't taste your food.

Had a quick meal with my son the other night!
Small place, but similar size in Tokyo were we just spent two weeks prior to arriving in SF!
Noodles and broth was decent, the slices of pork wasn’t up to par!
We were planning to go to Mensho Tokyo of SF but there was line and we didn’t want to wait!
Prices was reasonable.

Our family came here right before the Harry Potter show at the Curran. The food was delicious! Portions were solid. Tan Tan ramen is highly recommended amongst the ramen choices. You won't be disappointed. The chicken tonkatsu bento was overflowing with chicken. Yum!

Good place, I'd definitely come back. It's kind of dark in there and small but the gyoza was great and the person I was with also liked their ramen. Best place for ramen in the neighborhood by far and it's in a pretty good location, walking distance from art galleries and other cool things. Staff is nice and helpful.

Very tasty ramen. We got our food on time but billing took some time. But taste of food takes over the delay. One of the best ramen place. Quantiy is great. The bowls are huge.Staff is very friendly. I took Katanaya Ramen with extra Kimichi. It was medium spicy and yummy.

Superb ramen, delicious broth. The two ladies working there were very nice. I also recommend the draft Sapporo beer.

A little tucked away downstairs. Really tasty and tender noodles. Some of the best ramen noodles I've ever had. Tonkatsu soup base was also really good. The pork belly could've used a bit more flavors and the karage chicken was cooked perfectly.

Katana Ya does have one vegan options for ramen and when you are stuck in this part of town when your other vegan ramen options are too far, closed, or too busy, Katana Ya fits the bill and does a pretty darn good job.
Pretty much you have to order their vegetarian ramen with SOBA NOODLES and no egg. Confirm with the waitress, but they do have a veggie broth and can add different spice levels.
I shall say, this is the ONLY restaurant I've been to in San Francisco that truly can deliver a Spicy as Hades dish. Their "habanero" level spice is unlike any habanero I have eaten. I love spicy food and eat many things with ghost peppers and Carolina Reaper. This "habanero" ramen made my nose run and was very tasty.
The broth can be a little bland without the spice but they give a ton of great veggies and the bowl is huge. For San Francisco, the prices are great and I found myself going back a few times during my travels. The staff was always very kind and were patient and not upset when I sent back a bowl for having the wrong noodles.
Note, this restaurant is in the basement right next to another ramen place that only uses egg noodles so don't go there if you're vegan.

Was recommended by a person I worked at PlayStation. I had it saved on phone as one of the best date places and it was. There is no phone signal in a basement, so have to focus on the person you connecting with there.

Katana Ya has officially changed my views on ramen & Japanese food! It was delicious and nutritious and I appreciated the way they prepared the food: fresh and ingredients that popped out at me!

Very good ramen!! Great dimly lit atmosphere, friendly wait staff, kept water glass full, and they give you very good portion sizes!!! For a good 10-15$ price range I'm stuffed. If I lived around here I'd absolutely come again.

4 Stars because the place was a bit of a hole in the wall, but that doesn't stop people from lining up outside around 6pm to get some ramen and that piqued my curiosity, so I went around 4pm (no line). Waitress was friendly and the pork belly ramen with added egg was amazing! The serving size was huge which in hind sight the gyoza dumplings might of been to much but never had them and so very glad I did. And in the end there was only half of one left and barley anything in the bowl when I left. I ordered the lowest of the spicy offerings and still had to slurp carefully as it hits you strong. Not to say I might not man up and move up a spicy next time.

I just loved this place and presentation of food was amazing , I just loved it . The food was more tasty as it looks. 😍😍 I was so happy after having my meal 😃

We ate here the night before we left San Fran and got sick. The food tasted fine at the time, we had the Katanaya Ramen, Unagi Don, Caterpillar roll and one other small roll. My girlfriend mentioned that the Unagi tasted slightly off but I thought nothing of it.

We came at 10pm on Sept 7, 2016. Not sure if we got all the leftover scraps from the day. Being sick on the plane ride home the next morning is not an ideal way to end a vacation. Not a chance in hell I would be back.

Food was nice without being anything special. Curries were not a available on the night unfortunately. Service was very quick, which we were looking for. Overall, a good meal.

I ordered the special spicy pork belly ramen. The pork belly itself was quite nice, but the ramen and broth wasn't at the same level.

Surly service and a customer being ejected from the restaurant none-too-nicely at the adjacent table made for a poor overall experience.

Ramen? More like instant noodles! Over cooked soggy noodles! Disappointing. This is the worst meal that I had in San Francisco! Stay away!
Chick
Soggy ramen! Way over cooked! We ordered 3 bowls of ramen....all soggy! Tasted like instant noodles. Along with the lacklustre service, a horrible experience. Stay away!

Delicious!!!. This place is absolutely worth the wait for their ramen. We ordered some sashimi and gyoza to start. Both were yummy, fresh and exceeded expectations but the ramen soup and noodles were outstanding!
Jammj
Noodle was thick and not enough topping like bean sprout!! :(

Lived in Japan for a couple years and since returning up the US have had a difficult time finding good , and thick, Ramen. Not impossible, just hard to find. This place is delicious. I had the BBQ pork ramen, similar to tonkotsu ramen. My wife had the katsudon. Both were very good. If you want a real Japanese experience ask for these: 1). Mugicha (moo gee chaw). It's a traditional tea served in almost every restaurant in Japan, free at katana ya. Also if you want seconds ask for kaedama (kaw eh daw maw), means another round of noodles. $2 for that so save the broth.

Decent Ramen, Good sushi. Try going in the mid-afternoon when it isn't packed, because this place is SMALL! The ramen was pretty good, not great, but good. The sushi here was also good.

Got my ramen fix. I'm a huge ramen fan, and Katana-Ya more than does the dish justice. The short wait in line was worth the super-rich miso broth that hit the table (one cool feature of Katana-Ya's that I haven't seen at other ramen joints is that you can specify how rich you want the broth). They also have a pretty good lunch special, in which you select a ramen and then one of a myriad of sides to go with it.
Urban Jungle
Authentic miso ramen and side dishes! Well worth the wait in line!!!

This place is awesome And worth the thirty minute wait. Service is awesome. Food is even better. Great sashimi and saimin to die for. Hole in the wall and very cheap. Well done.

The food was incredible! We came all the way from Centerville, Utah for some authentic Japanese Food an definitely found it here. The cramped table setting made it feel like I was back in Kobe. Awesome!

Ramen addiction. This is the closest to Tokyo ramen shops that I have found in the US. When I'm craving ramen I make my way to SF and eat here for 3-4 days in a row. Sushi is good as well.

The Shut-Up-and-Give-it-to-Me-Quick Version: Winner! Tasty ramen, cheap prices and open ‘til 2 a.m., what more do you want?...I have nothing but good things to say about Katana-ya. The broth is always right on point, not too salty and not too thick (I always order the ramen with the miso broth). The noodles have a bite and are never overcooked. The servings are also very generous.

Katana-Ya Ramen is a local favorite when it comes to Japanese comfort food. Arrive early, because this gem doesn't accept reservation and can only sit about twenty-five at once. The line can deter a few but their warm soups are so yummy that I would suggest it anyway. Located at the corner of Geary & Mason, the portions are very generous and the price more than fair.

Saw a line at 6.30 when checking in to our hotel, still a line at 7.30 when venturing out and after an unsuccessful hour thought we should play it safe and go to the line. Turns out it's a really popular place.

Their specialty is ramen, multiple different types which you can order in a salt, miso, or soy base broth. If served with cuts of pork, you can choose a rich or light as well. Joe ordered their regular ramen on the first night, miso and light. It came with three slices of chasu pork, bamboo shoots, onions, and seaweed. For an additional $1.50, you can also make the broth spicy, which not surprisingly, he did.
I Review Something
Many of the reviews that I read mentioned Butter Corn Ramen. Being intimately familiar with both the stale, plastic-wrapped versions as well as fresh ramen in Japan, the combination intrigues me, so I read no further and we're off in the rain to get hot n
Baking Me Hungry
The varieties of ramen are great from green onion, kimchee, butter corn to spicy tofu ramen. We decided to share a Katana-ya ramen with Deep fried chicken, a pot sticker, BBQ pork, egg and corn for $12.90. The individual components were delicious standalone. The fried chicken was flavorful, the pot sticker had juicy meat, the pork was tender and the egg and corn combination added nice texture, sweetness and richness.

After snagging a deeply discounted ticket for the show at the orpheum, I walked through some choice areas of SF for a coveted bowl of ramen at Katana-Ya. I had consulted yelp and it had gotten good reviews. It’s a teeny little place with a tiny sushi bar

I finally made it out to Katana-Ya (KY). KY's chasu ramen is #5 on 7x7 Magazine 100 Things you must try before you in San Francisco list. I've been told countless times by friends how it's "SO GOOD" and it's the best ramen in town.

It's not easy to find good lunch places in San Francisco. If you find yourself in Union Square, the downtown shopping district of San Francisco, you will realize that the lunch alternatives are rather dire. You have fast food, which caters to the hurried

For a late night (open til' 1.a.m.) bite in San Francisco, head to Katana-ya for some ramen and best of all...shaved ice. The above is served with green tea ice cream, azuki beans and condensed milk. It's ultra-refreshing and a perfectly light dessert to

While walking back to our hotel after our FoodBuzz reception, Katana-Ya caught my eye so I made sure we tried it something in our trip. Ramen in San Francisco anybody? :)

It’s been a bit wet and cold in the Bay Area lately, so all I want to do is stay at home. Probably the only thing that can force me to put on my rain gear and venture out is the idea of a piping hot bowl of ramen.
