Excellent tasty food. The seafood stew was a highlight! We dipped the bread slices into the stew and it was heaven. The seafood pasta was also wonderfully cooked and savory. I would go back for the seafood pasta and the stew. The rice pudding was delicious. I would save some room for the rice pudding next time as it is unexpectedly flavorful with soft texture. The server and bar was quite busy for sat night and drink for my friend took a long time. This is a popular place and has lots of history. Atmosphere was quite loud and tight space. Good for friends and family gatherings but might not be ideal for first time meeting someone.

One of our favorite restaurant in San Francisco. Great food, great service and great atmosphere. No reservations? No problem. We sat on the bar and enjoyed a great meal with Brian serving and entertaining us.

Just wanted to experience the CA oldest restaurant. Atmosphere was good. I ordered cioppino (SF originated dish). Portion was ok, not enough for 58$. They could have done better on taste as well. May be cioppino is not thier expertise. Sourdough was extremely chewy. Overall good but an expensive experience. 1 extra star for just being the oldest in CA.

We had a great visit! The good was delicious and the service was outstanding! Our waiter Jure was the best. Highly recommended!

A friend invited me out to lunch, and we had a grand time! The oldest restaurant in California, and one of the best.

Tadich is many things -- the oldest San Francisco restaurant, a pinnacle of 20th century seafood cuisine, a trip down memory lane where grizzled career waiters in white tuxes become long lost uncles after your 3rd ice cold martini, and I'd argue the home of one of the most important 21st century things: a absolute banger of a meal sized salad.
Yes. The cosmopolitan salad is, at $38, as expensive as it is huge. But a trip to Tadich is a celebration and a splurge and this salad proves that it can also be healthy. Dungeness Crab, bay shrimp, anchovies, huge prawns, hard boiled eggs, and symphony of veggies make this a filling, satisfying, yet calorie light meal. I get mine with the vinaigrette instead of the Louis dressing.
When I'm not watching my weight, I get the sand dabs! Just a few reservations are taken -- be a little patient and they'll get you in!

This place is a relic. You can go to Michelin star restaurants but this is old California. Sand Dabs, Branzino, artichoke, and prawn cocktail. Juri our waiter was a CIA graduate from Hyde Park. It was a great experience.

Great dinner at the bar in one of the oldest restaurants in San Francisco.
Doesn’t get any better than this.
Thank you .

This place is an iconic place for food!! It’s a lil hole in the wall & there maybe a wait if you don’t have a reservation. There is street parking but you have to find it. The food was delicious & served quickly. They close the kitchen down at 2 & then turn the place over for dinner so check out the hours before you go.

I understand why they are the oldest restaurant in California. Amazing seafood and your choice for it to be cooked in a few ways. So many choices. We shared the appetizers and even then the portions were so large but every bite was delicious. I ordered the Chilean sea bass which was nicely charbroiled and cooked to perfection. The sauce wasn’t heavy at all which made the fish shine! Even the rice and vegetables it came with were splendid. Order their sourdough and Bloody Mary! And my goodness their bread pudding and even their berries and fruit and chocolate cake seemed simple but tasted Amazing. The menu is extensive but they can take the simpler things and make it amazingly well.
I even had the lucky opportunity to have it for lunch during my trip and their clam chowder is also to die for!
The atmosphere was great too. Still old school style. Staff had their uniforms on and they just have that old time feel. Reserve your tables! Each comes with a booth which can make for a nice intimate meal.

Pretty awful. Loud, cramped room, rude servers, high prices, laughably poor food. Great for tourists who have never eaten good food in their lives.More like chain restaurant grub. Avoid at all costs unless you enjoy being fleeced.

Five generations of my family have been going to this restaurant. It became a tradition over 60 years ago because of the consistent amazing food and historic San Francisco atmosphere. They definitely have the best clam chowder, sourdough bread and a family favorite, Rex Sole (be sure to have them debone it). We have never had anything we didn’t really like. My personal favorite is their scallops! Have read reviews negative reviews about “wait time”....they don’t take reservations and everyone in your party has to be there before you are seated. So really, no time is wasted waiting for people showing up late to complete parties to get orders taken. They’ve been doing it for over 100 years and it works and it’s worth it, so you either deal with it or you don’t

Had a great lunch, started with carb cakes then sautéed scallops. The waiter was fantastic, pared my scallops with a nice bottle of white wine.

It was NOT a good experience. Was told by waiter oh we have to see if it’s still in stock (Mac and cheese w/Pesto)!! Wasn’t told either way. The lady i was with didn’t get her ice tea she wanted or her salad w shrimp in it! Plus finally after 20-30 mins of no “entree”. Asked waiter about it and said “oh we had a disconnect with the chef”. I said is it coming or not. He had no answer. We paid for what we ate (not great quality food or service). And we left!!!!
We’re down from this place about 4 doors and our “waiter” was running at us with my order apparently. I opened it up to eat it and saw maybe 1/2 a portion of food. Suffice to say. VERY DISSatified! I should have just left instead of what i did leave $ wise!!!

Four generations of my family have eaten Tadich Grill and always had a fantastic experience! My dad used to eat there in the mid-1930s and later and Monday night my son and his friends and I had a fantastic meal. P. S. I'm the third generation.

Oldest restaurant in SF, very nostalgic! When you get there put your name on the list. Bar is first come first serve like many places while you wait and have a cocktail, or if you decide to just eat there its all good. They will call your name when the table is ready. It was packed and we had 12 peeps, but they put us all together.
Food was excellent, get the calamari app....I had the Chilean sea bass and it was reallu good!

Wonderful experience. The food was delicious and the server gave us a history as well as great service.

Great food. Really great! Cocktails were good, wine good. Waiter was surly. Even when we joked around with him he was not nice. Such a shame because we loved the ambiance and food!

First time here and it was excellent. Came early for lunch (11:15) and were immediately greeted and given a seat by the window. Food was delicious (clam chowder, ahi tuna, sand dabs, shrimp and crab salad and wonderful sour dough). Never rushed. Our waiter was wonderful. Will definitely be back. Sorry I waited so long to come in!

Old school since 1849. How can you go wrong with an establishment that's been around for more than a century. The place is not cheap but if you don't mind having a delicious clam chowder it's a bargain
Michon Schwartz
The worst service and seating process I’ve ever experienced. There’s was no organization with how they seat people. They tell you to wait and then seat others who’ve arrived after you before you. We stood and waited for our table for 45 minutes and by the way there were empty tables because we arrived at 5:45. There’s a no reservation policy so it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. If you question them about it with a even with a friendly approach you’ll get an attitude from the maitre d. Definitely not worth the wait or the rude experience.

Had the prawns and crab a la Monza.
Wonderful service, delicious food and nice atmosphere.

One of our all-time favorites. We love the "oldness" of it, the history, and of course the food. For my daughter, it was her first time at the Grill, but she loved it. She said it was her favorite. She had the grab legs, I had the ground beef steak, and my husband , and my husband had the ravioli. Kristina had the sample of all 3. Delicious all.

It was lovely the food and the service was outstanding! It took me back and time with its charm.

Great seafood, impeccable service and the best clam chowder west of the Mississippi.
Only draw back, they do not accept American Express
