I had some wings and beer for dinner. Unfortunately I was a couple of hours away from happy hour but opted anyways. The wings tasted great and could have easily ate another plate full.
Awesome service, great atmosphere, great live music! Best experience in my 4 night stay in San Diego! I will be back no question. No comparison on genuine great service at affordable prices.
The Hopping Pig is a Gaslamp gastropub with a focus on small batch craft beer featuring 32 rotating taps of mostly West Coast breweries, along with craft breweries around the world. It’s a smallish venue with a welcoming atmosphere and well located screens showing live sports.
The Hopping Pig is a gastro pub and eatery in the Gaslamp district with a really good vibe: an upmarket drinking hole that also serves quality food.
What stands out most at this place, in addition to the interior decor and lighting, is the impressive and almost overwhelming selection of craft beers. You feel like you're not doing yourself or the establishment justice by sticking to the same brew for multiple rounds.
On this particular occasion we sampled numerous drinks, including some of the Goose Island variety. For food we consumed numerous small dishes, but honourable mentions must go to the garlic parmesan fries and the pulled pork tacos with pico de galle.
Overall a really good experience, and I recommend scoping this place out if in the neighbourhood.
Pub food. Buffalo sausage sandwich was tasty. Just the right amount of spicy. Good beer menu, including local choices. Friendly staff. Small place with easy going atmosphere.
Nice place! Good atmosphere. Excellent selection of beers and good happy hour motivations. The bar staff are friendly and the food is mighty fine. I had the Mac 'n Cheese and the Brussels sprouts. Well worth the time spent. If you're going to be in the Gas Lamp district, make sure you stop here.
A must!!. All the food here is made in house and you can certainly tell the difference! We came for lunch and tried the sweet potato fries, fish taco, carnitas taco, pulled pork slider, and wedge salad. It was all awesomely fresh, delicious, and light. The draft beer selection is definitely icing on the cake especially with all the local offerings. I definitely give this place two thumbs up!! Oh and happy hour is 11:30-7, what more could you ask for!?
Great selection of beers. I had the chicken covered in chorizo. The flavors completed each other amazingly. It was served with spinach and boiled potatoes that were seasoned to perfection. The flavors were way above my expectations for a bar in the gas lamp district. I will return!
Great find! I had the short ribs and bread pudding. Excellent recommendations from the bartenders. Would order both items again.

Enjoyed some appetizers and drinks on St. Patricks Day at 'The Hopping Pig' First of all- what an innovative creative business name! The restaurant was very busy, and the service was outstanding. Loves the decor and music, and use of light to enhance the whole experience. We go out to eat a lot, and for 3 servers to meet all customer's needs who were there was amazing. I didn't see a single patron waiting for anything. We were seated near the back, and there was a blonde haired supervisor (or owner?) watching over everything, and and jumping in to help as needed. She seemed very effective! Just loved this restaurant,and will definitely return during our next visit to San Diego! There were many places that we saw downtown that catered to college kid age crowd, and The Hopping Pig customer base was a little older, (like us), looking for a more relaxing experience- and we found it! Sophistication is the word that comes to mind.
Went their to have a couple of good craft beers and their beer menu was really good. Also ordered the chicken wings with parmesan and garlic which were also just perfect. Service is quick and friendly. Can rocommend this place.

Good chill vide and a large selection for drinks and huge selection of beer. Bar crew knows how to mix drinks right. If you want flair, excitement, and flaming shots go to Hard Rock. You want amazing classic cocktails or draft beer to relax you have found your place.
Great food, friendly service, awesome decor and amazing beer. Come thirsty, very thirsty.

It was good, although I was expecting much more based off of how much it was talked up. The food was good, however the menu seemed a bit small. With a name like Hopping Pig I was expecting more in terms of BBQ. Couldn't find any pulled pork on the menu. Their beer selection was pretty good. They do have happy hour specials on some of their beers but they discount isn't too great.
Seems to have the only interesting beer selection in the Gas Lamp, despite all the killer SD breweries. Good eats!
