This was an absolutely amazing ice cream shop! It was super busy but we got in and out within 10 minutes. The hit fudge sundae was so delicious!! We also got eggnog and a freeze. 10/10!
This is THE place to stop if you’re in Sacramento, visiting Sacramento, driving through Sacramento or just want an excuse to eat ice cream. I’ve come here on every one of my visits from the Bay Area and it’s now become a tradition.
Gunther’s has a vintage retro charm to it with a huge neon sign out from, lots of bright colors, and classic black and white photos on the walls. The inside is small so often the line wraps around the building but things move fast. Once you get your order there is plenty of seating along the sidewalks. Parking is a breeze too as the shop is located in a quiet residential area.
The ice cream itself is amazing! Go for the Gunther’s half and half which is two scoops of fruit freeze and one scoop of ice cream. I had a mango and guava freeze with vanilla ice cream and it was the best combo and so refreshing to eat on a hot summer day.
Can’t wait for my next visit already!!
Want to Gunther's on a hot Thursday afternoon. Fortunately the line was short and we were able to order and be served quickly. This is the best ice cream, not just in town, but anywhere. It's also very nostalgic to return here regularly since I've been visiting since I was a child. I remember these clown sundaes were always a favorite. As an adult, my favorite will always be Swiss Orange Chip. Today we picked up a couple pre packs for a special birthday.
Great Ice cream, was very nice to just sit outside and enjoy the ice cream. Weather was great so the place was crowded. There’s a lot of sitting chairs and tables outside and just need to be patient… parking was easy and free on street side. All in all was a great experience and will definitely stop by again
First time trying Gunther's!
Friends brought me along to try them out. I ended up getting their fruit freeze since I'm lactose intolerant, so I didn't really want to test the stomach with the ice cream haha.
I got the strawberry fruit freeze and the flavors were good. Everybody else enjoyed their half and half fruit freeze sandwiched with ice cream.
Ordering is a bit hectic. Huge lines inside and a lot of bump and grind.

The best ice cream I’ve had in norcal so far. Black walnut, maple nut, and coffee are my choices! Nice staff and environment
The location is small. Food is great! Selection is amazing! The lines are sooooo long (we went on a Saturday). The inside was a little unorganized but the staff were very friendly and tried their best. It’s just such a fabulous place that you can’t rate them lowers because they’re so popular. Expect long lines, great desserts, happy tummy’s, and smiles.
Gunther's is the best ice cream spot in Sacramento! Most everything is made in house and all of it is delicious! The service is very fast and it's a great place to bring your kids and friends just to hangout.
The only downsides are that there is no inside seating anymore unfortunately and they close a little early, but a great place to go right after dinner for some dessert!
They make their own ice cream in their store, and in front of everyone! How cool is that? 😍.. The taste of their ice cream is just heaven on earth! Next time, I'm trying their 50/50 fruit freeze! Please, give this store a try when you visit Sacramento! 😬
Visited Gunther's on our Sacramento trip. The place was packed. There was a line, but their service is great, so the line was moving fast. Got the oreo milkshake, which was decent. It barely had oreo chunks, so that was a bit disappointing. My friends liked their ice cream.
