Under the word of mouth recommendation from a coworker, I decided to give this rejuvenated location a shot over lunch. Not only was it one of the most memorable dining experiences for the year, I can’t wait to go back.
Server, Chloe, was an absolute angel. Attentive. Friendly. Had the hustle but made it look effortless.
Gave me a recommendation on onion rings instead of fries and that choice did not disappoint ! Very lightly breaded. Cooked to perfection.
My only complaint - and this isn’t a huge deal breaker bc I’d rather it take a little time to make quality food - if you’re short on time. Wait. Go when you have a little time to kill. Again. It’s not at a fault. They were hoofing it busy during a lunch hour.
If I could give more than 5⭐️’s I would. They deserve it!!
Open for a month under new ownership with ample outside tables in addition to the cozy inside counter. Plus 1⭐️ for the dog friendly shaded patio under the overhang of the adjacent building. I’d read a SacBee article about new owner N'Gina Guyton and she and her crew were busy on this sunny Saturday in early October. I had the LJS tempura battered cod sandwich ($14) with onion rings ($6) and for dessert banana pudding ($6). All were delicious. I noticed a sign that a liquor license has been applied for. I’ll be back to try their burgers when I can enjoy a beer. If you’re close to Downtown Sacramento definitely come try this reopened classics.
Tried a Georgia mock tail and fried Cauliflower for afternoon snack. Both were excellent! I’ll be back.
There was no wait around 2pm Friday.
Upon arrival the restaurant staff was welcoming, and attentive to get us seated. The outside waiting area was shaded and the staff was communicative about the wait. It was very appreciated.
The food was amazing. I had ‘the American’ burger, garlic fries, Brussels sprouts, and banana pudding. The serving sizes were plenty, and everything cooked was nice and hot. I recommend everything mentioned.
Overall, it was a great experience and I’m excited to visit again. If you’re short on time I recommended planning in advance, or dining in when you have time to spare.
Ever since reading about this place, and the new owner's story as well as the adversity she's overcome, I knew I wanted to try this place...well it didn't disappoint in the least! They're still working out patio seating that's covered from the elements, but other than that this place is a MUST-TRY! Take it from this foodie, you can thank me later 🤣
Full disclosure, I only actually found this place because I was looking for an alternative to a chain pancake Diner.
Walking up, the limited menu was a little imposing but I'm SO glad I took a chance. The Sunrise Bowl was absolutely phenomenal! Tasty, simple, but so well cooked and seasoned! I got it with gravy and bacon, and the Cajun potatoes and OH MY GOD, best decision ever at the recommendation of the guy working up front.
If you're looking for an awesome little place for breakfast or lunch, definitely recommend!
Everything about this place is fantastic - the setting, the food and the people. Go here. Do it now.
I finally was able to try this place today. When I walked in the two worker's up front was really nice and pleasant. Which made for a good atmosphere. Service was really quick. And the food was so good. I had the Southern burger. That thing was so good.

I love the atmosphere. I'm going to use their place for a scene in a future movie of mine. The burgers are the best in Sacramento. And the HOT LINKS!!! Mann...can't wait to get another CHILI HOT LINK DOG!
We had a delicious chicken sandwich and burger. Service was excellent/friendly and price was right. We will return.
