Mulvaney's Building & Loan

This is one of the high end places in Sac. It lived up to the expectations. The service was amazing from the moment we showed up to the hostess desk. The ambience is super cool, an old brick building with an open kitchen. There are several tables inside and several more outside. Our waiter was knowledgeable and provided really good recommendations. There were some plates we shared and he made sure that they came already split. The food was amazing. Super tasty and plentiful. Scallops and steaks were super well done and the vegetables were perfect. Wine selection was not impressive but what we got was really good. There is a side bar that one can go and wait for the table. The bar is not that impressive but it seems to have what one needs. This bar also support cocktails order at the main room. Seems like a great idea and opportunity. However, the quality of the cocktails we were given was not great. I think the bartender that took care of us, although super friendly, is not up to date with the quality of cocktails one would expect in this type of place. Nonetheless, I would recommend to visit this establishment.

Awesome place to eat if you are looking for a more intimate or large party venue. My family of 7 were very pleased with the recommendations by our server SJ she is very knowledgeable about the cuisine as well as drinks. The manager Tracy came in and introduced herself to us to make sure we were ok or needed anything. My family and I didn’t realize we were there for over 5hrs enjoying my birthday celebration with no interruptions. We highly recommend this place the staff were great friendly and accommodating. An old firehouse into a beautiful restaurant was amazing.

Wife and I were sat at the counter where we could see desserts being garnished and topped before being sent out. Pretty neat. After we were seated we were given menus and water but it took quite a few minutes before we met our server. Given it was a Friday night I wasn't really bothered or surprised. Our server was great and explained the menu well. We started with salads. I got the live butter lettuce while my wife got the endive. Both were very fresh, bright, and full of great flavor. Next we shared the steak tartare (which neither of us had ever tried and were a little skeptical about) and saffron risotto. The tartare was surprisingly (to us) fantastic and we were glad we decided to try it. The risotto was creamy and full of delicious little turnips that were a bright little pop of flavor to compliment the heaviness of the dish. We finished our meal (no dessert) with our own separate entrées. I ordered the short rib stroganoff which had great flavor and big tasty mushrooms with wide cuts of red onion. Overall 4.5/5 only wish the sauce was slightly thicker so it stuck the noodles more. My wife ordered the double cut pork chop - medium, as the chef suggested. This. Thing. Is. HUGE!!! In size and flavor. Seriously this thing was half the size of my head. Was tender and juicy and seasoned to perfection and slathered in mustard sauce. Couldn't finish it so we took it home and made sandwiches the next day. Just as good. Overall a very pleasant experience and we will definitely be returning soon, as their menu changes often.

I had dinner last Friday night here. The table was all booked so I sat at the bar. I had a spaghetti with lamb shoulder and a cider. The portion was a bit small but tasted great. The bartender was very friendly and offered me some wine to pair with the food for free. He also gave me some bread and butter. Very great experience!

We had a company Xmas party. Really good food and drinks. The service was impeccable and the atmosphere was perfect. Highly recommend it and will be back for a regular dinner
