River City saloon is located in Old Sacramento, which is a great date spot. It's the last operating Wild West saloon. The feel of the saloon gives you a glimpse of that a true wild west saloon was like in the 1800's. There are a few modern changes from the 1800's. Such as, a gaming area in the back of the saloon, a Jack Daniel's bottle chandelier, $1 a play pool tables, karaoke on Friday and Saturday nights and live music on Thursdays. There has been at least one movie shoot at this location. The bartender was great. He was attentive and easy going. The River City Saloon servers more than just rye whiskey and bourbon, like the bartender would serve in the Old West. There are an assortment of local beer on tap and a variety of mixed cocktails. This would be a great date spot. Grab a drink and get to know each other. Then play a game or two of pool in the back. If the date is going well, you could always walk around Old Sacramento. Great drinking bar during the day and party spot during the night! The staff is really nice here and after you get a few drinks you’re really close to downtown. Old Sacramento is kind of touristy but every once in a while it’s fun for a local like me to go down and have a good time! I highly recommend getting the monster martini glass it was only $20 for lots of booze!
Love it always...haven't been in a while but it never changes. Bartenders were great fast and Best Bloody Mary of all...pool table was eh ok needs a little up keeping and music was good for Saturday night. Great atmosphere always.
The River City Saloon is situated in Old Sacramento and embodies the old west feel of a local watering hole. Absolutley must get a $.25 sarsaparilla at the bar, stopped in for a quick bite and was satisfied with a couple appetizers. The pool tables in the back were free play when I stopped in which provided a little diversion.
New owners, bloody mary is no longer best in sac. Everything else is the same.
Old:
I saw an ad for some drink specials earlier in the day and just happened to walk by on our outing, so we decided to give it a shot. It is a longer narrow style bar with a few beat up games in the back (Air Hockey, Basketball, Punch bag, Pool). The bartenders we talked with for a while were very nice and explained many of the drinks. This was a cool spot to check out and try some new things.
And yes, I would agree they do have the best Bloody Mary in Sacramento. (Spicy for most)
I'm rarely happy when I order a blody Mary, but the river city saloon has exactly what you hope for in a bloody Mary. So dang good! Our bartender, Ryan was courteous and on point. I'll definitely come back.
It has a restaurant, but the kitchen was closed around 6pm. We were invited to a party there, and the host provided the food for it. The saloon had nice music. It was a pretty calm place!
The staff is stellar, friendly atmosphere , where you can walk in and everyone knows your name after two visits. Ask for Chelsea and she will take care of you like family. I will definitely come back again.
Great staff, everyone's super friendly and lovely to talk to. Drinks are perfect and the bloody Marys they're known for are amazing. Definitely worth stopping by
