There are many places to get your taco fix in midtown and downtown sacramento. None have the wonderful combination of friendly staff, great food, and a fun ambience like Azul. This place really is the pioneer in the downtown casual, Mexican food scene. Generous drink pours, staff that greet you by name, and a place that everyone knows make azul a unique place to dine and hang out. Stop by on a tue night for a packed and energetic taco Tuesday, if you want live guitar music Thursday nights are a fun bet. I have been frequenting azul for almost a decade and it's still one of my favorite spots.
If you are looking for good tacos in a great neighborhood environment - this is the place. I am a Mexican food fanatic and this little place is close to Mexican street food - in some ways better.
All the sauces are fantastic but the avocado cream sauce is to die for - if it had some more heat.
The ceviche ranks with the best I have every eaten.
Pork and chicken tacos - DAMN!
Good prices, almost immediate service, my only change would be to make some habanero hot sauce.
You will not be disappointed.
Hit up taco Tuesdays! $1.25 tacos and $2.50 beers. Veggie tacos are amazing!
Great Food and Service. I eat here 2-3 times a week. The food is always hot, fresh, and amazing! The cost is very reasonable, and the self service salsa bar is a must! The staff members are very friendly and do a great job of making everyone feel welcome.
As passing travelers, I appreciated the warmth of the location and staff. The food was gentle and yet full flavor. We had the shrimp salad and a fish burrito which between two people was just the right amount of food. If in the area, one should stop by! Prices were reasonable, but parking can be challenging.
Niece took me to Azul for lunch and it was a success. Tasty shrimp tacos and sopes and a huge portion of nachos. They were all very delicious. Guy at the counter was very friendly and had a great big smile. The people dinning there were very friendly as well. They have a huge wall of different liquor and I was very tempted. Maybe next time. Yes I would go again.
Found this place while walking around and was not disappointed at all. The margaritas were delicious and full of flavor! The tostadas were the perfect size and the meat was well seasoned. I will definitely be back!
We had a lovely dinner here on Thursday night, food and drinks were awesome and really really enjoyed the live music. Love the salsa bar, amazing chips. Service is friendly and prices reasonable. Popular place and for good reason, I would recommend to a friend.
Excellent food, tasted great and fresh. The place is small and there's a few outdoor tables if one prefers. Counter service at one end of the bar, and there's bar stools at the bar for one to enjoy food, beers, and other spirits!
Passing through Sacramento and I was hungry for some Mexican food and I found Azul's nearby my location. Stopped in for an early dinner and ordered the Sopes platter (3 Sopes) it didn't come with rice or beans so I took it as is, and I also ordered a cup of Tortilla soup.
The tortilla soup came out pretty quick, I also was given a bag of tortilla chips and two salsa cups. The soup was average, leaned more on the sweet tomatoe side opposed to a chipotle or adobo spicy side. It has avocado slices, cubed queso and tortilla strips inside of it.
The red salsa was very mild and tomatoey, while the green was a bit spicy and had a nice taste to it. Finally my Sopes came out and they were pretty small compared to your average sope, but had a fair amount of meat, lettuce, avocado and crema on them.
I had two Pastor and one Carnitas and both meats were seasoned and cooked well.
They were small though so they went down more like finger foods than a full meal.
Overall not bad but not great. I'd eat there again if I wasn't very hungry but most likely next time I'm in town I'll try another place to satisfy my appetite.
While visiting downtown Sac I was looking for food walking distance from my hotel. The location isn’t to big, they have self seating and live music. A performer played guitar and sang while we eat. I have asada and carnitas tacos. The asada was good. The carnitas were a little tougher than I am used to. I had a strawberry margarita on the rocks. It was great. You order at the counter and pay when you order.
Tasty and priced right! I stumbled upon this place by accident and so glad I decided to try it out. I ordered the sopes from the appetizer menu and that includes 3 sopes , sopes are a corn flour shell that are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside in shape of a little cup with a rim around the edge to keep all the ingredients inside. I chose Carnitas and it comes with refried beans on the bottom, then the meat of your choice and a mix of lettuce and purple onion, sour cream, cotija cheese and avocado. Highly recommend to try. All orders include chips and salsa. They have outdoor seating available, and a full bar. My order came out quick and staff was friendly.
Empanadas soooo great, birria delicious, and drink very good. Will be back!
A cool atmosphere for quick, quality modern Mexican food! Order at the counter, number table service with a full bar. The food was very good and reasonably priced. Happy hour is till 7 with great drink and snack specials ($3 nachos!) Only giving 4 stars because the margs were not the best, descent but.. eh... However I would totally come back and just order straight tequila, they have a great selection!
