Review Azul Mexican Food & Tequila Bar - Sacramento

As passing travelers, I appreciated the warmth of the location and staff. The food was gentle and yet full flavor. We had the shrimp salad and a fish burrito which between two people was just the right amount of food. If in the area, one should stop by! Prices were reasonable, but parking can be challenging.

Niece took me to Azul for lunch and it was a success. Tasty shrimp tacos and sopes and a huge portion of nachos. They were all very delicious. Guy at the counter was very friendly and had a great big smile. The people dinning there were very friendly as well. They have a huge wall of different liquor and I was very tempted. Maybe next time. Yes I would go again.

Found this place while walking around and was not disappointed at all. The margaritas were delicious and full of flavor! The tostadas were the perfect size and the meat was well seasoned. I will definitely be back!

We had a lovely dinner here on Thursday night, food and drinks were awesome and really really enjoyed the live music. Love the salsa bar, amazing chips. Service is friendly and prices reasonable. Popular place and for good reason, I would recommend to a friend.

Excellent food, tasted great and fresh. The place is small and there's a few outdoor tables if one prefers. Counter service at one end of the bar, and there's bar stools at the bar for one to enjoy food, beers, and other spirits!

Passing through Sacramento and I was hungry for some Mexican food and I found Azul's nearby my location. Stopped in for an early dinner and ordered the Sopes platter (3 Sopes) it didn't come with rice or beans so I took it as is, and I also ordered a cup of Tortilla soup. The tortilla soup came out pretty quick, I also was given a bag of tortilla chips and two salsa cups. The soup was average, leaned more on the sweet tomatoe side opposed to a chipotle or adobo spicy side. It has avocado slices, cubed queso and tortilla strips inside of it. The red salsa was very mild and tomatoey, while the green was a bit spicy and had a nice taste to it. Finally my Sopes came out and they were pretty small compared to your average sope, but had a fair amount of meat, lettuce, avocado and crema on them. I had two Pastor and one Carnitas and both meats were seasoned and cooked well. They were small though so they went down more like finger foods than a full meal. Overall not bad but not great. I'd eat there again if I wasn't very hungry but most likely next time I'm in town I'll try another place to satisfy my appetite.

While visiting downtown Sac I was looking for food walking distance from my hotel. The location isn’t to big, they have self seating and live music. A performer played guitar and sang while we eat. I have asada and carnitas tacos. The asada was good. The carnitas were a little tougher than I am used to. I had a strawberry margarita on the rocks. It was great. You order at the counter and pay when you order.

Tasty and priced right! I stumbled upon this place by accident and so glad I decided to try it out. I ordered the sopes from the appetizer menu and that includes 3 sopes , sopes are a corn flour shell that are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside in shape of a little cup with a rim around the edge to keep all the ingredients inside. I chose Carnitas and it comes with refried beans on the bottom, then the meat of your choice and a mix of lettuce and purple onion, sour cream, cotija cheese and avocado. Highly recommend to try. All orders include chips and salsa. They have outdoor seating available, and a full bar. My order came out quick and staff was friendly.

A cool atmosphere for quick, quality modern Mexican food! Order at the counter, number table service with a full bar. The food was very good and reasonably priced. Happy hour is till 7 with great drink and snack specials ($3 nachos!) Only giving 4 stars because the margs were not the best, descent but.. eh... However I would totally come back and just order straight tequila, they have a great selection!

As I sat patiently for my friends to show up I was blown away with the friendly staff. When I asked for a drink it came instantaneously. Then my friends showed up while I was 4 deep. I politely said, fu, and went home in an Uber.

My husband and I absolutely love Azul! Great food and good vibes whenever we visit. We usually go on Tuesday for their tacos but I went here all the time during college days too. Carne asada is our favorite but the other tacos like the carnitas, chicken, and the al pastor make a perfect medley platter that we can't resist going back for time after time. This place is a must try for sure!

Loved the house cucumber margarita. We got the mahi tacos. Very Good! Loved their rice. Full bar too! :-) Will be back when in Sac.

Authentic flavors, fast friendly service for a quick work lunch or a nice dinner with a beer or margarita. A must for me every time I'm in Sacramento.

There are many places to get your taco fix in midtown and downtown sacramento. None have the wonderful combination of friendly staff, great food, and a fun ambience like Azul. This place really is the pioneer in the downtown casual, Mexican food scene. Generous drink pours, staff that greet you by name, and a place that everyone knows make azul a unique place to dine and hang out. Stop by on a tue night for a packed and energetic taco Tuesday, if you want live guitar music Thursday nights are a fun bet. I have been frequenting azul for almost a decade and it's still one of my favorite spots.

If you are looking for good tacos in a great neighborhood environment - this is the place. I am a Mexican food fanatic and this little place is close to Mexican street food - in some ways better. All the sauces are fantastic but the avocado cream sauce is to die for - if it had some more heat. The ceviche ranks with the best I have every eaten. Pork and chicken tacos - DAMN! Good prices, almost immediate service, my only change would be to make some habanero hot sauce. You will not be disappointed.

Always Pleased with service! Food is quick, chefs are prepared to cook every day of the week rain or shine. They are ready whether it's slow or there is a rush. I have been coming here, since I was a college kid on a college budget! LOL Mainly happy hour dishes and burritos. Easy to take to class and well can't beat a $3 meal for the happy hour dishes from 3-7pm. Most happy hour's for restaurants end at 6pm in Downtown, so it's nice to still have a place that services for one more hour 😁 Also, the dishes served here on the menu: you can not go wrong! I have tried everything from apps, salads, burritos and speciality dishes!! It is delicious! I would say, they specialize in their sauces and do a wonderful job at preparing their seafood and meat. For price and quality of flavors, Azul brings your taste buds a happy medium 💙 You've got to try it!!!

I had a good time. I came for the Taco Tuesday and got here at 4. It seems like people came in waves because it was very busy at times. I had the asada tacos, nachos (doesn't come with meat) and some beers and a margarita. I sat at the bar and this I thought this was overall the better choice since I could order as I wanted. The tacos were good. But don't order too many at once, and you are tempted to because of the price, or they get cold. The Mango margarita was also very good. The service was friendly and and the food did not take long at all. I will most likely be back.

Great place, lovingly decorated in a cool urban style with an artsy edge. Nice folks provide simple, good service, atmosphere and delicious food. Hits the spot.

I came here for the chicken street tacos, cause its quick and easy for lunch (I work in Midtown) and I do like them, though aren't street tacos pretty much the same anywhere u go? 2 tacos, $5, not bad. Employees were decent at best, environment was fine, not great.

Overall it was really good. Fair priced and tasty. I had a drink that was almost too pretty not to consume...Almost!!! . It a very good location but I’m certain had we arrived at any other time parking would be an issue...you could definitely people watch here and among some of the other places in the area.

It's our go to place for Happy Hour. We always enjoy the food and ambiance...however this time when it came to drinks my daughter waited for some time while others got their drinks...but we can tell these were new waitresses...we will still be back...

I'm from San Diego where taco Tuesday is a weekly ritual. This place reminds me of San diego and the food, service, etc was great.
Darlene Hackworth-Neuenfeld
I liked the food, but i was looking for a resturant where a server comes to your table takes your order. This is not it. I didn't want to get my own soda and chips.
David Fronval
Great place, good food, good service, and great location.

Horrible food and horrible service. $70 and I’m leaving with an empty stomach. DO NOT ORDER RHE ENCHILADAS. DISGUSTING.

Great street tacos, and the absolute best mango chili margarita ever!

They're racist and sexist. I noticed when my friend and I were ordering they were more focused on the skinny white female patrons. We had to wait because we didn't have the looks I suppose. We were vendors for the fleamarket. The do not like Blacks. I will go to Mr. Pickels. At least I don't have to deal with racists there.

Hit up taco Tuesdays! $1.25 tacos and $2.50 beers. Veggie tacos are amazing!

Great Food and Service. I eat here 2-3 times a week. The food is always hot, fresh, and amazing! The cost is very reasonable, and the self service salsa bar is a must! The staff members are very friendly and do a great job of making everyone feel welcome.
