Here’s the secret!! The best SOUL FOOD EVER! My “go to” dish has always been smothered pork chops, but today we tried the Jumbo Fried Chicken, Whiting Fish, Greens, Yams, Macaroni and Cheese!! Wait! Corn Bread and HOMEMADE Tarter Sauce! Everything was delicious!! Great MENU! Huge servings - and plenty to take home leftovers! Looking for a place for the whole family - no need to look anywhere else!!! Family Secrets is the BEST place!!
Loved the restaurant, food, waitress was friendly, but I do feel like she could have come back a few more times to the table. I was very happy with the amount of food for the price. Thank you family secrets! All dine in orders have 20% gratuity!
This place is a gem for Southern foods that does not disappoint you. The proportions are very generous. The name of their restaurant is accurate- delicious family secret recipes. A very friendly atmosphere. Highly recommended. I had Wings and Fish along with their yams and cole slaw.
They recently moved to a new location that is much brighter and open. Great food, excellent service, and reasonable prices.
Had takeout-fried catfish platter and fried whiting platter. Both were fantastic! Excellent string beans and cabbage as well. And very good corn bread. Would definitely go there again. The staff who took our phone order was professional as was the person who gave us our order and rang us up when we picked up the food. It was ready in the timeframe they said and was totally fresh and delicious. Wouldn’t necessarily go for sit down dinner as the atmosphere is very barebones but will definitely go back for takeout!
Awesome soul food. I had the Jumbo Chicken wing dinner with Collard Greens and Mac and Cheese. My homeboy got the fried pork chops and those were good too. The staff was very welcoming and friendly. I willd definitely make my way back here when I'm in the area.
So happy we found this place on a whim. We always try to visit the “popular” soul food restaurants when we come down to Richmond area from Northern VA; you know, the Mama J’s, Croaker Spot, etc, but that wait is ALWAYS an easy hour or more. Not today!
I did a trusty Google search, saw the 4.5 stars 🌟, a couple pictures of the fried chicken and made the trip.
Came in just about 3:30 pm on a Saturday afternoon. More than a few tables were open, the space is not much to look at, but it was clean and the music playlist was old school R&B❤️
The pictures will speak for themselves… Hubby and I got the wings and fish. Two big wing pieces and two large pieces of fish (I got whiting, he got catfish). Delicious. The kids got the jumbo wings with fries and the fish sandwich.
Everything was hot, fresh and crispy. Huge portions, so much so that we literally could only finish half. Oh and the cornbread was super moist and soft! I love a good cornbread.
Not to mention our waitress (Adriane, I believe), was fantastic! She was quick and had a great attitude. Loved the friendly sports talk too!
I’ll take Family Secrets over Mama J’s any day!
Trying to find a soul food restaurant in Richmond with actual parking spots seems so hard to do, but we Family Secrets Restaurant! The food was delicious, left me wanting more! Drinks were good as well! I definitely will be back the next time I’m in Richmond.
Was there for my Aunt 81st B'day. It was a large group the waitress did her best to service every one. Sha was working by herself my food was spicy but my husband's was great and a lot of others relatives. I give the waitress an applause.
Visited for the first time today. Enjoyed everything about the restaurant. Food was tastefully seasoned and good portions.
