We had absolutely most delicious meal . I highly recommend the tasting menu . The staff were excellent. We could not have had a better meal or night . Thank you Res Ipsa ! We will be back !!
Awesome meal. Creative, delicious, great price. Jared and Allison were excellent servers! Thank you for a great meal!
The breakfast sandwich was really tasty - salt - pepper - ketchup needed. It might seem a little pricey for egg on an English muffin, but each component is so well executed it's worth it. My mocha was just flavorful enough - I don't like it very sweet. I'll definitely return to try lunch.
Loved eating here for brunch! Got the open face whitefish sandwich with the potatoes, and it was delightful. Also got the English muffin with butter and jam — you can never go wrong there. The jams were tart and sweet — perfect! I can’t wait to go again.
This place is a gem. Creative food and great service what more can you ask for! Definitely try out the tasting menu. Be forewarned that the place is small (less than 30 seats) reservations are a must and it can get loud depending on the crowd.
Nice cafe during the day, but the dishes at night are fantastic. The pastas are both interesting in terms of flavour, but hearty and comforting. All pasta dishes can be served as a full dish (~$20) or a half dish (~$12), so you can get a nice variety as well. To top it off, they're a byo!
I had the eggplant sandwich for lunch here yesterday and it was delicious. I was initially expecting a breaded eggplant however, the pickled onion, arugula and tomato jam really enhanced the flavor of the eggplant. The accompanying potatoes were equally delicious.
The evening tasting menu here is a bargain at $60 - I think we ate 8 dishes in all, each plated for the table to share (we were two). There were some interesting ideas here, several centred on house-made pasta. The vongole was especially delicious. Like a lot of restaurants in Philly it’s BYO on the wine front.
In all honesty of I could give Res Ipsa 4.5 stars I would. This is a very cozy restaurant when you come for dinner. We unfortunately had to wait for the party we were to be seated after to Friday as they really took their time. Don't get me wrong I think that proper timing of a meal to maximize enjoyment is important, but these ladies were rudely slow. Other than that the staff were delightful and accommodating with the food choices and splitting the pasta dishes and they were fine just right with wonderful flavors. The octopus we had was also very good as were the desserts. Would go again and if you're so inclined bring your own wine, beer, etc.
Potentially the best dinner my wife and I have had in Philadelphia so far. Get the tasting menu, and bring your drink of choice since it's BYOB. Music can be a little loud, but the playlist is fire so we didn't mind. Will definitely be returning.
A solid breakfast/lunch spot with some pretty good dinner options. They're known for their egg sandwich but I would go with the to-go yogurt (not a healthy yogurt). For dinner the pastas stand out but the whole fish is a nice option for some protein. Don't skip dessert - had an amazing panna cotta topped with hazelnuts. They did not skimp!
Came for breakfast, you could easily walk by and not know this place was there. Excellent coffee and a fantastic egg and cheese sandwich on house English muffin. Add the sausage, trust me.
