Valley Stables

Update - according to the manager this place is sold and closed as of 10/7/19. Hopefully it will reopen in the future. Modest but decent beer selection, pretty good appetizers and wood-oven bar pies (when the pizza guy is there). What I really like is that I can always walk in and sit at the bar - it's never crowded. Too bad for the owners. I'd like to see them succeed but then I might not go anymore ;)

Tried two different beers on top and both tasted weird so I went for a bottle of beer instead . Fish tacos were tasteless fish with shredded lettuce- gross jarred salsa and dark not fresh gaucamole . Bad beer and below standard fish tacos! Not cheap. I could have made them better myself and that’s not saying much. Initially we were going to leave because it took so long for a sever to appear and they weren’t busy at all. Not going back!

This place is ok. They apparently have a problem with the tap system. I had two different beers that tasted flat. Bartender even said they had a problem. Hope they fixed it. Also my friend and i were trying to figure out if the bartender was drunk. He looked it. Served me the wrong beer. Dropped some stuff. Most notable was dropping the beer he was pouring. The food was eh. Nothing special about it. Idk. Maybe i had a bad experience. Try it again. Il keep an eye out for a different bartender next time

Stopped in last night with a few friends. It was 10pm as soon as we sat down the two female bartenders said they were closing and it was last call. There were other people at the bar so we asked why they were closing. They became rude and argumentative,saying it was quiet and they could close. They were reluctant to serve us. A few minutes later another 6 people walked in so they were forced to stay open. We won't be going back there. We have never been told ar W's that they're closing at 10pm ! I've lived in oakland for years and never had an experience like that. Try hiring bartenders that know good customer service!!

So I never go out to eat looking for something to complain about but this restaurant truly upset me. We stoped in on our way home from new York and immediately the bartender approached us and told us they're ready for us upstairs as in we were there for a party or reservation of some sort (which we didn't have) and was very unwelcoming. When I asked if we could just sit at the bar and watch football he was already halfway up the stairs telling us they have tv up there and it felt like he didn't want us to bother him at the bar. So we followed upstairs to a beautiful dining area and loved the feel of the place. Our server came and took our drink order, and brought our drinks, and then never saw her again. 10 min later I waved another server to let her know we were ready to order. It was obvious that she was stoned out of her mind. Her eyes were red, gazed over, and hardly kept open. (I don't care if you smoke weed, but seriously, try to not look that stoned while waiting tables if you already don't know what your doing). What is such a shame was that the food was wonderful! The best French dip I've ever had, and cooked to perfection! However. No one ever came and check on us or refill our drinks. They weren't busy (we were one of two tables) eo it's upsetting that we weren't even acknowledged. This place has potential but the staff was clearly untrained and rude. It was the worse service I ever had and If the servers were properly trained (or at least acted like they cared) I'd say this place is great. But the horrible service ruined a nice dining experience for me.
