Review Divya's Kitchen - New York City

Leeanna Maniace
Atmospheric, healthy, ayurvedic. I especially enjoyed the Chai Latte and crunchy romaine salad. The lasagna and curry were good, though I wasn't blown away by the flavors but I'm sure that's because it's meant to be that way because their philosophy is about balancing the body through an ayurvedic approach. Note the wine is dealkalized. Would recommend if you want something calm on the digestive system. I'd also suggest finding out your dosha and ordering something that helps you balance it, which they note next to the menu item. Very gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan friendly. Save some room for dessert! The rose mousse was delicious.

I’ve been here a few times already. It only gets better! Their approach to cuisine is pure and honest. It’s never heavy with lots of salt or butter like traditional restaurants. The dishes are delicious and super healthy with great balance! Ingredients are always fresh, organic, seasonal and super tasty! You have to understand Ayurvedic to understand how the food can compliment your gut!

The food was very average for its pricing but the ambiance was excellent. We got the spinach cheese appetizers and the vegan lasagna. Both were 7/10. It’s a beautiful restaurant.

I recently dined at Divya's Kitchen, and let me tell you, this place is a gem in the heart of New York. You walk in, and immediately you're enveloped by a calm and tranquil atmosphere that's a stark contrast to the city's hustle and bustle. It's like stepping into a sanctuary dedicated to the art of nourishing both your body and soul. Now, about the food. I had the Vegetable Curry in Cashew Sauce with white rice, and it was absolutely divine. The flavors are well-balanced, and you can tell that each ingredient has a purpose. Yes, it's a bit on the pricier side, but what you're getting is an unparalleled blend of taste and health. The menu itself is an experience; it's centered around the Ayurvedic lifestyle, categorizing dishes by Ayurvedic body types, which adds another layer of depth to the dining experience. Beyond the food, I even took a cooking class here, and I can't recommend it enough. Whether you're a culinary novice or a seasoned home chef, there's something to learn and enjoy. So if you're looking to treat yourself to a meal that's as nourishing as it is delicious, make your way to Divya's Kitchen. Your taste buds—and your well-being—will thank you!

Recently I returned from India and was invited to a friend’s home in NY and she served an absolutely delicious lunch that came right out of Divya’s first cookbook. So I had to make the Great Pilgrimage to the base of 1st Avenue in Manhattan to actually eat at Divya’s Kitchen. OMG (X 100). This was, hands down, the most delicious, nutritious, conscious Indian cuisine that I have ever had (including in my many travels through India). The staff was friendly, the environment peaceful, the food superb. Don’t wait to go there. Just go!

Made reservations for a table of 6 for 7:15 pm on a Saturday night, and the place was fully packed. Nice, cozy set-up with some soft music in the background and noise levels at average is how I'd describe the ambiance at Divya's Kitchen. The menu is very inspired by Ayurdeva and focused on Dosha's (The five elements combined in pairs to form the three bodily humours) - but I couldn't quite translate/figure out how the food combinations contributed to the dosha's. Food overall is very much on the sweeter side, which my biggest disappointment. We ordered a few small bits which consisted on Spiced Coconut Chips, Spinach-Cheese Cutlets, Paneer Nori Rolls, and Roasted Sweet Potatoes. The table enjoyed Chips and the Paneer Nori Rolls were my favorite. The Roasted Sweet Potatoes went really well with their spicy green chutney - which was my absolute favorite of the evening! I was having chutney shots towards the end of my meal! For mains, the winner was the Season Kitchari ($18 + $6 Paneer Protein) - packed with flavor, followed by Vegetable Curry in Cashew Sauce ($21). I got the Carrot Risotto ($21 + $6 Paneer) - which was disappointingly on a sweeter side, but filling enough in terms of portion size. The sauteed leafy greens were forgettable, but the basil-parsley pesto was packed with flavor. The extra protein we ordered for Kitchari and Risotto again was on the sweeter side - quite disappointing. Service was absolutely excellent, attentive and friendly staff. Overall, we had a good experience, but might not return again. A definite one time try if you like a modern take on Indian food, on the sweeter side.

The food was really good and healthy. I would recommend this place to people who are looking for healthy food and don't want to compromise on taste while doing so. The desserts here were to die for so definitely recommend you try out their desserts. It was the right amount of sweetness, not too sweet and not too bland. Will definitely come back here.

Excellent place, good food. We tried the Spinach cutlet, Nori rolls, Paneer Palak Bowl, Spinach Kitchari. Serving was great, loved the ambience and they have a very interesting unique menu. We landed there looking for Indian restaurant, but ended up having a good meal. Will go there and recommend anyone looking for a good flavourfull food.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in NYC. In addition to the great food, the relaxing setting (music, decor, ambiance, service) always makes me feel like I'm visiting a food "spa". After coming here for dinner many times, we finally tried the brunch today and oh boy this was the best brunch I've ever had. The savory waffle and vegetable pancake were amazing and so tasty that we swallowed the food. Both (and everything on the menu) were free of refined flour, made with quality house made ancient grain flour. The carob cake and the very long name tea that tastes like hot chocolate were incredible. The cake especially was the best "chocolate" I've had (refined sugar free!). We even saw the chef Divya at the restaurant today!

Love this gem. Contemporary simple decor create the beautiful cozy atmosphere for Ayurvedic dining that will nourish your soul. Lovely and kind chef and co-owner Divya even came out and chatted with us, inspiring us to tune into our "hearts' desire". Go eat here.

The food was absolutely beautiful. The love and skillful attention to every detail was evident in every bite. The grain and veggie bowl was perfect, and the coconut and mint chutney is a new favorite. The lasagna was the best veggie lasagne I’ve ever eaten: a masterpiece. The mint and ginger limeade tasted of the essence of the ingredients; I learned that the ginger and mint are muddled rather than blended, and you can taste the difference. And the two rose desserts were sublime. Well worth a visit!

Love this place. The interior is inviting and cozy, the food is absolutely delicious and not heavy at all! I went with a friend at 9:30pm and went straight to bed afterwards. Usually any time I eat that late, I have to prop my head higher with an extra pillow or my stomach doesn't do so well (I'm vegetarian so this goes with anything I eat!), but interesting I didn't need to do this after eating here AND I had a full 3 course prefixe! It was incredible! This is definitely a testament to eating Ayurvedically. I will definitely be back. If I lived closer, I would eat here everyday. Staff is super friendly too, and Diyva even went around and said hi to every guest and table! What a treat! For all the vegetarians and vegans out there (and even if you or a date/friend eats meat), Divya's Kitchen is a must-try. Beats Peacefood Cafe, my existing favorite before this place opened!!

a beautiful ambiance and tasty food, I would have given a 5th star if they had more raw salad options. I will certainly go back again.

Divya's Kitchen is a diamond in the rough. It's one of the only Ayurvedic restaurants I know of and the sole one in the city that cooks not only Indian cuisine but a diverse array from Italian to Asian Fusion. The ambience is extraordinary. It transports you to a sacred, serene space. The service is heartfelt and attentive. And the food is so carefully cooked and presented for maximum impact on body, mind, and heart. It's a precious find. I'm so excited for Manhattan to discover this one of a kind dining experience.

Amazing, healthy food with a beautiful ambiance and attentive staff. Owned and operated by leaders in Ayurvedic food, the husband-wife team takes special care of patrons with attention to detail, and love. I highly recommend Divya's Kitchen for anyone interested in a delicious, dining experience with wellness at its core.

This is exceptional dining. I had the lasagna and cream of veggie soup with carob cake and a carob glaze for dessert-- a sumptuous feast, every bite worth repeating.
