Review Injera Ethiopian Restaurant - New York City

Akhila Yennam
My first Ethiopian cuisine experience. This is a very small place probably with 20-30 members seating area. Reservations recommended as they are open only for dinner. Interiors are unique with candle light experience. They have a small bar counter. The owners are very warm and welcoming. She was very patient and explained us the menu to choose what we were looking for. Injera is the kind of roll which is sour and warm. We learned that Ethiopian cuisine has many dishes which are slow cooked and very flavorful. We loved all the different curries that were served. They aren't spicy they are mild flavored and have a lot of flavor. Definitely a must try for people who never tried Ethiopian cuisine.

Really nice service. The food is also very flavory. We ordered the meat combination for two. Both of us preferred the lamb dish than beef one. The fitfit seems to be a smaller cold version of the platter; they both come with bread. Next time I stop by will order their samosa instead.

We stumbled upon this place after walking the High Line. We have an Ethiopian food place back in Atlanta that we love to go to, but I didn't realize how great Ethiopian food could get. Our server was so wonderful and accommodating and set us up with a great meal. We got the chicken combination with tuna kitfo and it was more than enough food for four people. Their cocktails and honey wine were delicious and well worth it. I am so happy I found this place. It's small so they recommend reservations, but we will definitely be coming back the next time we're in town!

Such a nice place and very pleasant people. The owners are so so nice and literally made us feel like family. I've never had an owner come up to us and actually sit with us and enjoy dinner together and then dance with us for my birthday. They will definitely be blessed because of their hospitality!

Amazing owners, friendly & lively from the moment you walk through the door. The atmosphere is a smooth upbeat air with the staff and owners flying by connecting with the customers, and keeping the food and drinks flowing. The vegetable and meat combo for 2 is perfect for ago who is really hungry. They also keep a close eye on your injera plate, making sure it never goes empty. This place is a must try!

I went here with two of my friends and this being the second time to Ethiopian cuisine I really loved it. Short version - Great food, great service, ambiance is pretty but not spacious! go for it! Detailed version - We had a chicken combination for 2 which had 4 veggie choices and we chose lentils, split peas, and beets with carrots. Outstanding among all these was the chicken dish in the center. They also had a boiled egg and I love it. Couldn't stop eating. Other chicken dishes were also tasty. The ambiance is very pretty although we got to sit towards the window in the corner. It mostly depends on what you want. This is a not spacious place(then again which place is in NYC). That night my friend was visiting so it was nice and private (not silent but away from other tables) for us to catch up after a long time. People here are very polite and welcoming. We went here without reservation but they greeted us nicely and we waited with no problem at all. Service was amazing. I would go again and recommend this place.

Really intimate atmosphere, and because it wasn't too busy we got to have a leisurely meal. First thing - the service here blew away any expectations I have for a restaurant. They were so friendly and attentive, and showed patrons the proper way to eat. They genuinely seemed invested in everyone's experience. The food is a bit pricey but completely worth what you're getting. One word of caution - the platters for 2 are big enough for 3 or 4 people. We had a lot of leftovers! We got the chicken platter, 4 drinks (3 beer, 1 wine), a coffee, and the creme brulee for just under $100. Make sure to take cash or an Amex - those are the only accepted payments. There are some ATMs nearby.

Good food, with lovely ambiance. The meat and chicken combinations are close to perfect. Portion size is big. Sambusas are hit/miss. Service is pleasent and attentive. Reservation recommended.

Lovely place with tasteful decor. Advocating owners and staff. The food was presented in a traditional and at the same time unique manner on a round plate with no forks or knives. A pleasant experience overall. Enjoy.

Delicious! Definitely get the chicken combination plate and the Echi cocktail! Everything was amazing and service was incredible! (Be aware: they only accept American Express card and cash)

Great, great food. Wonderful atmosphere and such a lovely vibe. Absolute must-try. It was my first Ethiopian cuisine experience, and they totally won me over. 👌🏽

Injera is a revelation - best Ethiopian in the city. This tiny, typical-for-Greenwich Village restaurant packs not just good atmosphere and good food, but an authentic Ethiopian experience. I STRONGLY suggest a combination platter for those who are unfamiliar, because there is nothing like getting a whole bowl full of some lentil concoction when you aren't 100% sold. A vegetarian combination platter will allow a full experience, plus saving the pocket book.

Try the honey wine too! It goes down smooth, so watch it. That alcohol will sneak up on you quickly!

Try a Veggie Sambussa if you are looking for a light but savory appetizer.

Fair warning: they only take AMEX and cash.

Our first experience with Ethiopian food and it was great. Excellent service and cozy atmosphere. As vegans- we got the veg platter for 3. Plenty of food and variety for all tastes.
