Review Meske - New York City

Meske is one of my favorite restaurant ! and the best Ethiopian restaurant I have ever been. It's a family owned and the place it super nice quiet and warm. The food is fantastic, there is a lot of vegan options !! And the Injera is the best I have ever eaten. When you go don't miss the avocado salad.

First time dining on Ethiopian food. The main dish is the Lega Tibs which is lamb in the middle portion surrounded by spices. I thought it was a bit expensive about 90$ for the entire dish. Fluffy thin bread is used to scoop the meal with. It was quite good. Glad to try new foods.

I’ve been to nearly every Ethiopian place in every borough - bar none this is the best. The meat is buttery and spicy and oh so good! I like it uncooked, and they do it perfectly. They have great Ethiopian wine (mead) and coffee too! Only way this place could get better is if they had a bar.

Delicious Ethiopian food served with the traditional soft Injera bread. Great for eating with friends, family, a large group. We ordered the Meskerem Combo and Vegetarian Combo which was a lot of food and it was sufficient for all four of us. Definitely going to come here again as the food is AWESOME!

Great! I love trying new food and loved Ethiopian dishes. I also tried their beer, good too. Friendly staff. Cozy environment. Interesting decoration.

My first time having Ethiopian food so don't have anything to compare it to but it was pretty good. For the appetizer we ordered the avocado dish which was basically guacamole on a very soft/fluffy roti like bread, but it was some good guac. For dinner I had the lamb special which was also pretty good and served on the same bread as before with extra bread on the side. The dish reminds me of west Indian food minus the spice which is fine by me, even though the waitress said it was spicy. All in all, a good first time experience and they had no problem accommodating our party of eight.

I prefer this restaurant to neighboring Queen of Sheba due to their more complete spice profile. I've been to this restaurant over a dozen times and I enjoy it. I would give this place a 5 star review but my most recent visit dig not live up to its usual standards. On this visit the grind on the kitfo was rougher than than usual and there was an improper balance of spice given the kitfo an unpleasent pasty consistency. The flavors typically imparted by ethiopian sliced butter were muted and their absence left the dish feeling incomplete. This visit surprised me with a new rough texture to their injera -which used to be soft and subtle. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come because I'd hate to cross this former favorite off my list. Overall the price is consist with other Ethiopian restaurants in the city and the portions are typically generous. The place can be busy but doesn't feel cramped. It also lacks some of the traditional decor one would expect of an ethiopian restaurant (such as traditional mesobs) but as a person who loves ethiopian food i'm not going for the decor.

The food is amazing here and the service is one of a kind. I highly recommend trying them out and with the family too.

Injeras were the best. The chicken had flavor but was missing salt. Chicken was not tender enough to chew though, otherwise every bite is worth every buck.

Right level of spicy, my Ethiopian of choice in NYC, and also the gayest place to watch people.

Authentic Ethiopian cuisine served in a pleasant indoor and outdoor setting. 2 people = $100ish with 20% tip. Friendly staff and quick service. Dessert was unavailable the night I devoured the magnificent Lega Tibs, but the Tej was a great finish to a great meal. Entrance on west 47th. Onstreet municipal parking about a block and a half down 47th then immediately left onto 11th. The subway is nearby and the excellent menu offer vegetarian, lamb, beef, and chicken choices. The steamed veggies great and I just wish the sabosa appetizer came with more sabosas. Cheers to Meske!

I love Meske. One of my favorite restaurants, period. I bring pretty much every out-of-town guest here to experience the best of New York. I usually get the combo platters, which give you a nice taste of a lot of unusual and delicious food. Don't miss the honey wine. Friendly service. Quiet, wonderful Ethiopian music in the background. Food is reasonably-priced. There is nothing frantic, hyped, noisy or dramatic going on here. It's just comfortable, humane, non-distracting, and most importantly, good. You can enjoy socializing with your friends, and that's as it should be.

This was my first experience with Ethiopian food, so I don't have anything to compare it to, but this was absolutely delicious and I will definitely be back! We had the meat and veggie samplers so we tried a little bit of everything and everything was just delicious. Great for big groups as you share everything -- super comforting and filling meal.

The doro watt (chicken dish) was excellent, nice & spicy. Injera (bread) was fresh & tasty. Love how Ethiopian food is served in a giant tray for sharing. Our family always looks for an Ethi restaurant in whatever city we find ourselves. This won’t disappoint. Wait staff could have been a litttle more helpful explaining the dishes as they’re quite different. Over all, a great meal!!

Excellent place. Escape the mediocre and expensive food of Times Square and walk a few blocks more to this place.

I have been there a few times and loved the food every time.
