The food was first-rate! For a 'Santa-Con' day, it was crowded, but the staff was terrific, we got seated immediately, and it was a friendly environment! The cozy, exposed-brick and holiday decor really sets the mood. The bar can be a bit noisy, but off to the back, it's just fine.
We had a mozzarella/tomato basil appetizer, which was delicious and fresh. I had the fish n chips with a side of collard greens. The cole slaw that came w/the fish n chips was fresh, tangy/sweet, and wonderful! The fish wasn't oily...great crunch, flaky and moist - sorry, but that's the best word to describe it - and the sauce was perfect. Yep...bunch of fries with it..crunchy, not too salty, again just right! My wife had the chicken wings for her dinner. I tried one...sweet, cooked perfectly, little tangy - nothing overwhelming, which was a good thing for me! If you want hot wings, it's probably not the right dish, but I thought they were terrific!
My side of collard greens were some of the best I've had in NY! I usually order them at BBQ joints, which unless it's KC-style, it'll be a bit sweet and watery. They were roasted - not dry, and not soggy - with a lovely caramelized flavor, tangy, with bits of pork.
We saw lots of burgers being ordered - seems to be the signature dish of the place. They looked fabulous, and we'll have to try that the next time we visit.
If you're looking for a nice little restaurant/bar experience with fabulous food and service, I'd highly recommend Jane! We might stop by on a night other than Sunday, if only for a less-crowded experience. Clearly, the locals love the place, and it's obvious why!
Great food... chicken pot pie out of this world. So are the fish & chips. Friendly staff. Outstanding service. A wonderful neighborhood pub/ restaurant!! Oh, did I mention delicious martins & great reasonably priced wine list.
This is our second visit, we immediately recognized our previous staff that facilitated our experience. We knew the food was good, the location was prime with too much people watching 🤣, no really it was so nice withe shade trees and blocked off street. Ask for Michael, she was awesome.
Got off the high-line and needed a bite to eat. Only a couple blocks away we found this spot. Excellent fries and excellent burgers and sandwiches. I definitely recommend this place. The fried pickle sandwich is a winner.
The place is nice but food is just okay.
There is so many places to visit in NYC so it’s not the one I would be back again.
The service is really good, friendly helpful staff! All stars go to the service ✨
So we did order mussels- overall they were good but a little bit of spicy I would add for sure, otherwise it tasted just ok.
Server recommended us to get famous Jane burger- the burger was really good, but our fault that we didn’t check that it comes with fried onions and bbq sauce. So if you want to try burger I would recommend to go with simple one.
Buffalo Chicken wings was so fried and not enough sauce on them, and they felt like too much fat on them 😬
But if you around just go and have couple drinks there, atmosphere is cool!
Also you can draw on your table, they do have crayons on the each table 👌з
Excellent local pub! With food way above what you would expect with a good beer and wine selection, it's more elevated than bar food. They don't try to do anything more than make it good, however, so you can count on true renditions of all of the favorites from chicken wings to mozzeralla balls. The rest of the menu is also good. A lively atmosphere and good service round out a great experience when this is the vibe.
A very pleasant surprise of a restaurant. We intended to go to a nearby restaurant but couldn't get a table. We went for a walk and saw Tavern on Jane and weren't expecting a lot despite the fact that it's a very nice looking restaurant. Well we had brunch and it was sincerely an excellent meal. A top notch burger and one of the best bowls of chili I have ever had. This is a great restaurant.
Visited for the first time last week with colleagues. Great atmosphere and great food. Our server, Allison, was amazing! Very accommodating and helpful. I ordered the salmon and it was cooked perfectly. Would visit again when I'm in NYC.
My old neighborhood fave. Comfort food central in a cozy atmosphere. When corner bistro was all the rage, ToJ had one equally as good. Worth a visit.
Amazing place!
Good vibes, tasty food, great service.
Exhibition of works from famous artist Mia Berman " Mia's Jazz Sketches" open here till September, 13.
Enjoy!
Strongly recommend.
I’m kinda conflicted. I loved the vibe, this is the type of neighborhood joint that has all but disappeared from NYC. It’s charming! Old school bar/tavern vibes, friendly folks and staff. Servers are working hard.
My drink was awful, an Old Fashioned that came out with a weird orange color, not sure what happened there. My friend got a wine that was a generous pour and he enjoyed it.
Mixed reviews on the entrees. My husband loved his daily special pork chop. My burger (I think it was called Santa Fe, with chilies on top)was poorly formed and a bit of a mess. Our friend’s Asian salad seemed ok. We didn’t love the apple crumb cake caramel dessert.
I think we’ll be back to give it another try. Maybe I’ll stick to wine. They have a nice menu.
Really nice laid back local bar. Very reasonably priced drinks. Excellent choice to stop at and relax for a while as you're exploring the area.
