Review 53rd & 6th Halal - New York City

Ayesha A.
Recently during my trip to NYC, I had visited, ‘The Halal Guys' yellow food cart, in Manhattan, New York, which is an iconic destination that lives up to its reputation. Renowned for their flavorful halal dishes, the menu features a combination of grilled chicken or gyro meat, rice, and salad, complemented by their famous white and hot sauces. Tried their famous gyro, a standout item on their menu, had delicious flavors and with the generous portions satisfying hunger. Despite the typical wait of half an hour to an hour, the experience seems well worth it. The efficient service is noteworthy, considering the high demand for their delectable offerings. The staff manages the long queues effectively, ensuring that customers receive their orders promptly. The wait time becomes a testament to the food's popularity, adding an element of anticipation to the overall experience. The awesome experience of eating The Halal Guys lies not only in the quality of their food but also in the unique atmosphere created by the bustling street scene of Manhattan. The food cart has become a cultural landmark, drawing locals and tourists alike to savor the mouthwatering gyro and other offerings. Overall, the Halal Guys food cart in Manhattan delivers not just a meal but an experience, blending exceptional taste, efficient service, and the vibrant energy of the city into a memorable experience. Highly recommended.

Finally, flew 7000 miles and got to try the famous halal guys platter. Luckily, there was no queue, but beware the lunch hour line which is super long. I went around 3:45pm and there was no line. The famous white sauce has a special tang flavor and it compliments the rice and meat mixture very well. Overall, the combo was yummy and satisfying. The hot sauce is quite hot, so best ask it separately. The staff are friendly and happy to serve the customer needs. The platter is $11 if paid in cash, and if one pays by card, there is a fee. Recommend trying the platter and find a peaceful spot to eat and enjoy.

As a tourist from over 7000+ miles away, the food here absolutely blew my mind. The spice and the bowl is a taste you shouldn't miss. Be careful with the barbeque sauce tho, it's super spicy. But if you can tolerate the spice, its definitely a place you shouldn't miss.

I've been wanting to come to this place for quite some time now. I did not make the rain come between me and my combo plate. The line was shorter than expected because it was raining hard. I ordered the combo and the falafel plate. I was not disappointed at all. I would eat here every single day if I lived in NYC. This is a must try when you're visiting New York.

Does it worth waiting in the line? YES! No doubt it’s a successful business. It provides good quality and healthy food with good taste. I absolutely recommend it. (I’m gonna try it again while I’m staying in NYC) We got the combo of lamb and chicken and lamb was really good. If you are not too much hungry, I would tell you that a regular plate is enough for two people!

This is the original Halal Guys food cart. It is probably still the best tasting and freshest Halal food in its business. The guys working here are great as they do a great job interacting with the customers regardless how busy they are. We beat the crowd by showing up at 11am, when it opens. Overall, this could be a quint essential New York experience and it is a good experience.

One of the best mix platter in the city, the chicken and beef Gyro platter is one of the best things to eat in New York City specially from Halal guys they are the original creators that put this famous dish on the map throughout all America! It’s always a pleasure to stop by and pick up a plate and take it home or eat it on the go! If you haven’t tried this Halal food cart you are missing out💯😋👍🏻❤️

At last, after years waiting, I finally made it to enjoy the legendary platter from the Halal Guys. I really enjoyed it and it's a must go for those visiting the Times Square area! Definitely returning if visiting NYC in the future. RECOMMENDED! 😋🍽️

The first thing you need to know about this place is that the line is LONG. I came here at 9:30 and waited in line for an hour before getting my food. I didn't expect this at all, but I guess I should have since this is the original halal food truck in NYC. If you can stand the wait, the food is excellent! I got the chicken platter and it was totally worth it. Very good. Their hot sauce is no joke either. It is HOT. Makes some other hot sauces I've had seem like water so be careful! But the food was hot, fresh, and delicious. So glad I had this experience. There are some benches around if you want to sit here and eat but space is limited. They accept cash and card!

I was amazed to see the fleet of carts lined up Together …. One cart is dedicated to soda and water other for assemble and last for prep work. Lines are huge. I waited almost 45-50 mins in order to get my turn but the food is worth waiting. Their fresh hummus is one of the best things I have ever tasted. The best part you need to put all the sauces by your self as per your taste.

this is basically a food truck on the 6th avenue but when i reached there i saw a long long line of people....the service was so efficient that my no. came in no time...food was being made freshly ...i had the chicken gyro platter...quite awesome and filling it was...just a piece of advice ..the red sauce is extremely hot so use accordingly...
Food Ninja
Really good food, loved thier chicken gyro and chicken over rice they have copious servings and really good quality, not to spicy for an Indian pallete though but a must try for taste especially with the white sauce that they serve.Overall a pleasing experience

I waited patiently for 1 hour (long queue on Dec) for this and it was worth all my time. knowing NYC cold weather, need to quickly finish the food before it gels too cold.
Elsa Tardy
The beef melts in your mouth and the yoghurt sauce is very tasty. Got served fast. I will go back

I've been going to Halal Guys since 2002 - when they were just the "popular" cart on 53rd and 6th and didn't even have a name. It was a once a week ritual with college friends to eat here. I've moved out of New York 7 years ago, but everytime I visit, I have to eat here once. Such a nostalgic place for me!! If you guys are ever in New York, be sure to visit the cart that stands on 53rd and 6th near Hilton!! That's the best one!
Raha Babu
it is fantastic place to bring a date. i have done it last month and it was so amazing that we again visited this week too. i like this place very much.
Nak Phang
It was such an amazing food. I have never had that much fun be enjoying the food. The three delicious complete meals with rice , chicken , lamb ,beef and rice with falafel and it included the salad and pita and it just cost so cheap for 4 people and the service is fast too.
Ritik Babbar
Needed a quick dinner so tried Halal Guys...wow! This was our favorite meal during our entire trip! Three delicious complete meals with one with rice, chicken and lamb; one with rice, lamb; and one with rice, falafel. All included salad and pita. Total cost under $20 for all?!?! Two of us could not finish our meal, so much was included! This will be our go-to any time we are in NYC!

Good food is good mood😋😋<br/>.<br/>Once you have had a taste, you will understand why New Yorkers and tourists alike have stood in the city’s longest food cart line (sometimes for hours) to get a hot, steaming platter of chicken or gyro over rice, covered in The Halal Guys famous, proprietary White Sauce. You'll definitely love it. Do visit this place and write your experiences about this place in the comment section below!

We craved something different to eat and ended up at this food truck. The line was long so we expected the food to be good. The portions were big but the food was extremely average. I don’t think it was worth the wait, the chicken had no flavor and I will not go back.
Shrinjay_Prasad
I was recommended by many people to visit this place and this place fulfils all the promises. There are not much variety in the menu. I ordered chicken sandwich and baklava. Both were deliciously. There would always be a queue for the order but don’t worry, they work very fast.<br/>Note: Only cash is accepted.

A famous food truck in NYC.<br/><br/>I ordered the combo platter consisting of beef and chicken. I found it to be quite good.<br/><br/>Food: 3/5<br/>Service: 4/5<br/>Ambience: 4/5<br/>Value for Money: 3/5<br/>Overall: 4/5

Another famous food truck on the NY scene. It's around the 6th avenue and 53 Rd street. If you aren't sure, go against the adage and follow the crowd. The truck with the longest line!<br/><br/>The chicken /gyro combo with rice and salad. A filling meal with a nice portion. They serve good long grained rice and that definitely stands out against the rest of the trucks. The meat is tender juicy and flavourful. Fresh veggies always. Mayo on top.<br/>Spice lovers, there is a chilli sauce/?sriracha on the truck. Really spicy even by Indian standards, make sure you can handle it before you pour lots.<br/><br/>Thank you 👌9/10

AMAZING NY EXPERIENCE! <br/><br/>A friend brought me here to try this famous food truck while we were walking around 5th av. <br/><br/>I got the regular platter OVER RICE because, yes, Asian right? LOL <br/><br/>It was one of the best experience I’ve had in NY. It was worth the wait - falling in a long line, eating in the side walk along with many tourists (and locals I think). <br/><br/>You can have all the sauce you want. It’s in the truck, you just gotta grab it.
Sombit Chowdhury
Very good food and I really liked the concept of the food, nice packaging for the food, the food tastes really nice and the stall is strategically located. Hope they would expand all over the city.
Tamcyn Fernandes
Had been to New York and since this place had amazing reviews just wanted to check it out. I tried the chicken Gyro which was pretty average. Would go back to try out the chicken over rice someday.
EvanBernice
I always order the combo platter which consists of beef and chicken. It costs $8 and can be good for sharing. I never finish a whole serving. One of my go-to restaurants in NYC.
Fazrul Ikraam
Always ordered this when in New York. Must food to try in NYC despite the heavy rain. <br/>The order was very quick. No need to wait for long time even for a long queue.
Miyaka K
Two of the yellow-red food carts were positioned on either side of the 53rd St and 6th Ave intersection; each boasted a lengthy lineup.<br/><br/>...<br/><br/>From observing other patrons, it was clear that portion sizes were on the large side. Thus, we opted to share a Combo Platter (chicken + gyro/beef), which contained shredded lettuce, suspiciously orange grains of rice that resembled shredded cheddar, tasty morsels of chicken and beef, and several slices of soft pita bread. All elements were tasty and complimented each other, but the influence of synthetic flavour enhancers could not be denied.<br/>Long grain rice was lightly puffed and soft (with an almost Basmati-like profile), but unmistakably seasoned.

Though the staff and food was amazing. I like the staff behaviour and environment that they have settled over there. Thanks THE HALAL GUYS for making my day.

This was some great classic street vendor food. A must try for the visitor to NYC. When we arrived, we were like the line is too long. Lucky us, these The Halal Guys are super fast! Lots of locals grabbing lunch in the work hour. A must for New York Street food! Delish!
SKeat
My SUPER DUPER FAVORITE food in New York! Will never miss this whenever I come to New York! Be careful with the red sauce, it's SUPER spicy! Really recommend this!
Shravan
A must visit place in New York! Serving up legendary plates of meat with rice& falaffel and lip smacking sandwich . The halal guys are all about the sauce, load up with as much as you can and enjoy this place.
BGN
Still the best lamb gyro compared to any other place I’ve tried. The white sauce and hot sauce is just amazing and made the whole experience an unforgettable one. The taste has been very consistent and I hope it stays that way... Great work!
Jv Oliva
Visiting NYC would not be complete without trying Halal Guys. Order the combo platter to enjoy the experience. That white sauce just made my life. Would definintely recommend HG for Asians visiting NYC

Man, this had to have been the busiest restaurant I've ever walked into. It was so busy that I immediately thought of just leaving as I didn't want to wait, but was told by my friend to stick it out. I finally got to the front of the line and the prices were pretty high which I expected, I think it was around $8 or $9 a plate if I remember correctly. I ended up going for a chicken sandwich and a gyro as I was pretty hungry and it looked delicious. I wasn't let down as it was definitely very tasty, a bit messy, but tasty nonetheless. I would definitely come here again but am hoping next time, the lines are much better than they were this visit.
Sanjay Khan Nagra
Had the Chicken Platter. It was nice, hot, and full of flavors with the white sauce. A good option for late night food in Manhattan. There's usually a queue during peak hours.
@gemgelato
My favorite street cart in the city! The portions are large and the sauces are delicious. It's just outside the MOMA, so you can grab a bite before or after your visit. Service was quick and very organized.
Jae Lee
We heard that we needed to try the combo platter and it didn’t disappoint. The white sauce definitely made the dish and the hot sauce had a ton of flavor as well as adding a kick. <br/>Just wish there was more seating around the area for tourist like us to sit down and eat quickly.
Shrikant Limaye
Hands down I will give it 5 stars. What happens when chicken rice pita bread and lettuce come together, its a party!!!!! Chicken over rice is something I wont be able to get over with. I still remember getting extras back home so that I could just feed myself more of it the next day and be content with it. Cheers!
Joana Coelho Canhoto
With all the fame surrounding the Halal Guys, we couldn't missed it. We tried the chicken and rice and it was amazing!<br/><br/>There are so many food trucks in NY city, that we have to know how to choose between them. This is the righ spot! Fast, cheap and delicious!
Mukhtar Dharsey
Heard the reviews for this small street food vendor and it didn’t disappoint. Had the beef gyro sandwich. (Meat on top of a pita wrap with salad and white sauce) Although it seems the combo platters are most popular. Meat was juicy moist and the white sauce just complimented it. Was a small queue but went super fast. Quick easy and helpful. Definitely recommend for quick halal food in manhattan

I loveeeeeeeeeeee this food too much. Porsinya banyak banget, 1 portion is enough for 3 person. I love everything they have, the chicken, meat. And I thought the hot sauce is not spicy, but I’m wrong, the sauce super duper spicy, even if you try for a tiny bit. Ini super recommended. Enak banget!
Sravani Rao Potlapalli
Only word I have for them is 'Amazing'. Completely worth the penny you spend there. The different sized portions makes sense. My all time favorite is their Chicken over rice with their signature white and red sauce. Be careful when you try their red sauce because it's super spicy yet delicious.
Ana Serra
I saw so many people recommending this that I had to try. <br/>I ordered the chicken gyro and yes, I like it. It's a very simple dish - shredded chicken over rice, grated carrots and lettuce with a few little slices of some type of bread (it reminds me naan bread) - but tastes very good and the serving is enough for 2 people. They gave me a sauce (like a mayo or yoghurt sauce) too that it goes very well with the chicken. <br/>It is a very good option for a fast, cheap and well-served lunch.
Kevin Cleroux
The value for your dollar is great at this place. I got a huge plate of food for only a few bucks, and it was delicious. Hands down the best food truck we tried in NYC
Mohammad Ali
I went to the halal guys at 53rd st near rocketfeller centre and I found it totally overhyped. The rice was stale and the food was totally blunt without any spices.
Ferry Gondo
Never thought that halal food could be so tasty. The biryani race was perfect, paired with minced chicken and lamb, with all the garlicky sauces on top. The bread as a little sides also yum. Visited here twice just to enjoy the sensation of buying streetside food with pack of flavor.
Frugal Hiker
Rice, Grilled chicken, steamed khuboos, garlic sauce, hot sauce! Fresh, juicy, cheap, filling, fun! A perfect multicultural NYC experience, eating Midtown at a loved Arabic-style street food called "Chicken over rice" - simple pleasure of life!
Carlton Dsilva
The Lamb Combo Over Rice by these guys is something that's known for, and rightly so. Check out the original guys, because a lot of other versions of the Halal Guys stand around.
Zoomangie
Best food cart ever in down town. Tasty platters, cheapest price, and super spicy hot sauce. Long line but the service is fast. Surely will come back again 😊
Shreyas Revankar
The best place on this planet for halal food. This place is an epitome for amazing street food. The chicken over rice is my personal favorite. The service is fast . Easily the best food experience I had in New York City.
Harshvardhan
OMG this is the best food cart in the whole NY for chicken over rice, lamb over rice and falafel over rice. It is cheap and the quantity that you get for the price is just fab. The food tastes best and is cooked to precision. Ive been here atleast 50 times and i love the white and red sauce(extremely hot).<br/>Keep it up HALAL GUYS.!!!!!
Mary A.
a must try when you visit new york city.tried both the ones near MOMA and the one at East Village.loved the sauce especially the spicy one and the meat was perfect.quick service plus the serving size is huge.worth it.two thumbs up!
Raunak Das
Best middle eastern food EVER!!! Had the chicken platter for 8$. Nothing can beat the taste and quantity. White Sauce was so good. But i would recommend not to try the hot sauce. Its going to make u cry.
Evesen Jay Moodley
Always awesome food here !huge portions!there hot sauce is ridiculous 🔥🔥,white sauce is fantastic!all in all great value must try while in the big apple
Bengiamo
Big plates delicious chicken reasonable price very good option for turkish visitors as well as muslims. Smell of the food attracts you in the first hand and taste is good too.
KaimBros
Price/performance unbelievable. Chicken with rice was best especially with their sauces. Just long line and waiting was negative point of Halal Guys. Missing you guys. P.s: salad is not crazy hygienic. 12-15$ per person max
Shreya
As they are famous in New York downtown. Many friends of mine suggest me this place to have a chicken combo. It's difficult to find the right one while we reached around the corner. But, finally we assumed main one while observing the queue during lunch hours. We had chicken gyros combo with soft drink(as they also offers on side). Magic of their white sauce and hot sauce accompanying rice and chicken. Pita was perfectly prepared. I wish I had second time but we couldn't.
Pamela Rubin
This was the first time I ever had Halal and I am not a big fan for lamb. Upon trying their lamb, it was not too gamey for my taste and it tasted almost like beef! I was warned that the hot sauce is very spicy and I should be very careful about the amount I put on my food. I thought I can handle the spiciness but boy was I wrong! Their red hot sauce burns like fire but it made me want to eat more and more each time. The white sauce and the red sauce mixed very well together and it was a great combination of both! If you ever have a chance to check out The Halal Guys, go try it out and you will not be disappointed!
Samrat Dutta
This place needs no more introduction..<br/>7 bucks for Chicken over Rice and 5 for a wrap...nowhere you get such decent over filling stuff in midtown Manhattan<br/>Their secret sauce is great and the hot spicy sauce is crazy - never try it raw.<br/>During peak hours at night, you have to bear huge crowd standing in lanes for your turn...the only time it worsens is during rains as there is no covering to guard the visitors.<br/>
Luv Mukhi
Anyone near Moma must go to this place<br/>You can't even miss it as there are three carts. Open till 4am in the morning it's a partygoers paradise<br/>I had herd a lot about this place and wanted tot try it.to my suprse I found it right in front of the hotel I stayed in. Have the chicken n rice . You can add extra falafel for the crunch . <br/><br/>Beware of the hot sauce as it's vey hot. I wid suggest a cope of drops. Add Bbq and there ur set to go into another planet<br/><br/>I've tried the one at San Francisco but it's. I where close to it<br/><br/>Hoping them to come to our country as well

Like any other tourists, whenever someone tells me of something good I'd like to try it. There are a couple of Halal stores along the street. The famous one is The Halal Guys.. What annoyed me most;  staffs from all different trucks with yellow and different wordings to confuse people - "BEST IN THE WORLD", "THE ORIGINAL SHOP", etc. Please observe carefully, don't spot the wrong truck. There are 2-3 trucks of The Halal Guys and the queue is at least 15 minutes just 5 minutes after they start selling D: Anyway this picture itself isn't The Halal Guys... I've got cheated by their yellow shirt and whatever original.
Iisforina
Visited during my two weeks in Manhattan. I think in total we had Halal Guys 3-4 times because it's THAT good. Thought their hot sauce would be like sriracha but I was wrong - it was so spicy so go easy with it if you don't want it too hot! Their white sauce is so deliciously addictive. The lines may seem offputting but trust me when I say it's worth the wait!
Justin Wong
Ordered the mixed beef and chicken gyro. Just nice on a winter night, the meal was served hot and very delicious. Added the hot sauce and it was the bomb. The spiciness added so much flavor into the meat. Easy fast and delicious meal to have anytime of the day.
Siyang Gao
Came there at a winter evening and saw the long line. Idk because of the coldness or the truth I was so hungry, the burrito tastes like HEAVEN!!! Definitely gonna order there again sometime.
Anu K
Love their chicken over rice. The quantity can easily fill 2 people . They are quick and the taste is great. Have 2 sauces. On a regular day , you will find liners waiting for their food. <br/>Love it!
Sudhir
Get amazing chicken over rice and more better is the combo over rice. However it needs to be eaten hot and then itself cause warming the food in the microwave makes it oily and greasy. It doesnt taste the same next day. I totally recommend this place and its worth standing in the lines.
Iris St. Denis
We lined up to try Halal Guys because we have heard of good reviews about it. I had the Chicken/Gyro Combo with rice and some falafel with it. The portions are big and tasty. The meals are cheap but filling.
Fakhry
Perfect street food place to be at.. The lines are huge but the wait is just worth it.  I love the spicy sauce they have and the quantity is generous & the taste wallllaaa ts yummmy yummm.. Loved every bite of it...
Kadir Türkyilmaz
The Halal Guys are selling food (Gyro snd Chicken) from a cart at the corner of 6th Ave and W 53 rd St. I think that they are overrated. The queue is long related to the quality.
Kan Do
I agree with the sentiment, the best 'chicken and rice stand in New York'. Loved it! With the fiery hot sauce and spiced rice and delicious chicken you can't go wrong. Been there a few times, although I have to say I noticed a decline in quality over the years - but still great street food.
Sheldon Fernandes
One of theeeee best food trucks I have visited...... Unlimited sauces and generous portions of meats........ It was winter time and the Chilli sauce was the best...... Layered with mayo
TheHappySloths
Pretty sub par halal food but for the price it was acceptable. I tried the chicken platter and was disappointed to see the chicken so shredded and dry. However, BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THE RED SAUCE!!! I read that different locales have different heat levels but it just so happened that the locale I went to had the HOTTEST hot sauce. I can handle very spicy food but this was beyond spicy. After my first small bite I started hiccuping non-stop and my mouth was on fire for a good 20 minutes. What ensued with the rest of my body was even more devastating. <br/><br/>BOTTOM LINE: BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THE RED SAUCE!
Moses Crites
Chicken and lamb combo is so good! Loaded with hot sauce and was one happy guy. And it's easy to eat here on a budget and leave filling satiated. It gets crowded around lunch time so plan for that.

It's so good - there's a reason it's #1. For the price, you won't get better food in the city. The line is obviously insane but it makes for a good story and it makes the food taste even better when you eventually get it. Combo over rice with a Sprite is my go to. White sauce but easy on the hot sauce - that stuff will BURN.
Jasmine
Nothing special! I expected more from this due to the hype of it all. The chicken has no flavour as well as the orange rice, it was dry and bland and i had to basically pour the whole bottle of tahini on t to add some flavour. Cheap eat but you get what you paid for. Don't believe the hype!
Danny Le
Definitely a great place for cheap eats. You will get a lot for $7 here. I got the chicken beef combo. The chicken was great, the beef felt a lil dry. The sauce is a must. I generally eat spicy but their sauce pack that says very hot, it should say super spicy so please try it with caution. Great place tho!!
Manuel Cossio
Best food in Times square. Penne ala vodka & Ceaser salad is a total winner. Their fresh breads are so good one could just have them over and over again. Located in the heart of manhattan this place does require prior booking and is usually full on weekends.
Ted
This is a must try when in New York City. The chicken and gyro platter was very tasty. It is good for sharing as the serving is pretty big. Be careful with the hot sauce. It can bring you to tears.
Adam Salviani
Considered one of the best (shake shacks), do not know why the others branches doesn't have the same delicious taste ..... Have a juicy burger
Michelle
This is the place for anyone wanting a cheap easy and quick meal. The gyros and rice meals were tasty and the sauce was quite spicy too. It's no surprise how famous these guys are
Pranit Trivedi
What to say about it! Was my staple food throughout my college times. Be it during finals or commencement day this is the place where I get my fix of falafel sandwich and chicken over rice. If you're in NYC this is a must go place to fill your tummy and soul.
Milla Vanilla
Recommend by uber driver: chicken over rice with extra white sauce. Not recommended (by me) is overdosing on hot sauce so hot I cried! Scooped the hot sauce aside to actually taste the meal which wasn't too bad - it was just okay. Would eat here again but not any time soon. I had high expectations given the hype but unfortunately The Halal Guys didn't deliver.
Brittany Puller
The Halal Guys is definitely worth the hype! This is some of the most authentic Middle Eastern street food you can find, and for the price, you can't beat it! There's always a line, which makes it easy to spot in the distance. My brother had the chicken platter, which he felt was fantastic. The chicken was made fresh, smothered in white sauce. He couldn't stop eating it! The falafel was okay, though I've had better. I'm sure it would've tasted better if it wasn't so cold.

Affectionately known as "street meat," sidewalk vendors and foodtrucks are all over New York City. One of the most sought-after is The Halal Guys, found at 53rd and 6th (and other locations now). This food cart had quite a long line - especially compared to other vendors nearby. The line moved quickly, though, and once we were at the front, we chose our meal:Chicken, beef gyro, falafel, or a combo (over rice or as a sandwich). I went for a combo over rice.I think this is one of my favorite meals in NYC. A huge portion of well-seasoned, delicious food (and the white sauce they give you is PERFECT all over it!) outside, watching as the world whips by. I think my expectations were also super low, and I was slightly terrified food poisoning wasn't out of the picture. But the flavors of the meat, the fresh veggies and that delicious creamy sauce brought all of this together. I see why there's a line day in and day out now. Grade: A

Since we had never been to New York we really wanted to enjoy the street food experience, we read about the Halal Guys in a couple of places and became curious about it. Once we got there we had this huge line of people waiting to get their food, we considered if we should wait there or not but decided to stay anyway. All I can say is that it was worth it, huge amount of food, very tasty and extremely cheap! So we just sat there eating our food in the sun, we enjoyed it so much that we went there a second time :)

“The Best Halal. Delicious Chicken and Gyro – We are different!” scream the yellow shirts worn by “The Gyros Guys” on 53rd and 6th avenue.<br/><br/>They have no official name and are known as anything from the Halal Cart to Chicken and Rice to Platter!<br/><br/>There are many Halal Carts around that block but this one in particular is in a class by itself. They are known by their distinctive yellow sweatshirts and plastic bags that read ” The Best Halal……….”<br/><br/>They are only open at night from 7:30 PM to 4:00 AM. It doesn’t matter what time of night you go – they always have a long line of eager night owls waiting to get their fix.<br/><br/>This was the line we found when we got there at 2:30 AM on a Saturday night!!<br/><br/>But here’s the BIG secret. They usually charge $6 for a chicken rice platter but for $10 – you get to cut the line!!!<br/><br/>So, if you dont want to wait and are willing to pull out the big bucks……. all you have to do is go up to the guys directly and tell them that you want the ten dollar deal!!<br/><br/>They have two options on their menu – the chicken and rice platter or the chicken gyro sandwich. Their sauces are to die for!<br/><br/>Apparently the recipe for their white sauce is top secret – that’s where all the flavor is and they have a kick-ass hot sauce. I’m a spice hound but you really have to take it easy on this one – its is SMOKING hot!<br/><br/>So delicious!!<br/><br/>So if you ever get those late night munchies and need a hit of something cheap……53rd and 6th is the place to go!

after 15 min under the rain, because of the line, I though well this is gonna be good, well it was not, bland food no flavor at all, chicken was horrible, the rice, no good just Tourist trap, I have tried better ones ( Park ave and 51 st I think, better) also the salad is just lettuce, the other truck comes with tomato, onions, black olives, forget it..
Pragna
Before visiting here I was not very found of food on truck. This food truck on 53rd street has surprised me so much that I have been here numerous times. I love the simple food. I always take Chicken over Rice! It has never disappointed me.

Hari ke-1 : falafel over rice<br/>Hari ke-2 : chicken & gyro over rice<br/><br/>Campuran white sauce, red sauce, & barbecue sauce nya betul2 membuat rasa makanannya jadi enak tapi tidak terasa terlalu berat. Nasinya berbumbu, daging kambing & ayamnya tender banget, selain itu sayur2an segarnya juga pas dicampur dengan lauk2 lainnya. Menurut saya, it's a perfect taste<br/><br/>Note : Untuk red sauce nya, jangan anggap remeh. Mohon dicicip dulu sedikit sebelum dituangkan ke makanannya. Dan untuk white sauce & barbecue sauce silakan tuangkan sebanyak yang anda suka :D<br/><br/>Intinya : murah, kenyang (porsinya besar), enak<br/><br/>Kekurangannya:<br/>1. Lokasinya sangat jauh dari rumah (of course, because it's in New York City)<br/>2. Tidak tersedia meja<br/>3. Tidak tersedia sendok (menurut saya pribadi akan jauh lebih mudah kalau makan dengan sendok)

One of the best falafels I've had in NYC and it's quick and cheap $5 for a falafel sandwich. My friend suggested going here after a really busy night from the Christmas tree lighting. The line wasn't too bad and the food was quick. It's been known to draw crowds for a reason. I'll definitely keep coming back for more. Their hot sauce is really spicy btw, use sparingly. My friend warned me and I didn't listen.

We were in NYC during the cold winter so when we went to try out The Halal Guys, there was no queue at all, which was great. However, maybe the coldness numbed my tastebuds as I wasn't impressed with the meal we had. Will try again when the weather's not freezing cold.

Your NY trip is incomplete unless you visit this guys. They are the best, simply the best. I've never seen any street food vendor is so popular that too in NY. I literally waited in queue for 10 min to order my food. Coming to food, it was one of the best thing that I've ever tasted in my whole life. Dish was totally new to me, I hesitated first they enjoyed afterwards. I even enjoyed eating food on roadside in NY which is also rare. Highly recommended.

Love the Chicken Over Rice so much! It's always crowded. Have to queue for more than 20 minutes on cold winter day but totally worth it! Portion is HUGE. I could not even finish half of it. The white sauce is heavenly!
Seema
I had heard so much about the halal guys, so when we moved to New York my son and I went searching for one. With great anticipation we ordered chicken over rice (one of my favorite dishes), and I took my first bite....blah is the politest word I have for the dish. The chicken was dry, over cooked and tasteless. I could barely eat a few spoons and threw away the rest. For sure one of the most over rated dishes I have ever had.
Abde Ali Kagzi
Good, fresh, tasty food. Good combination of flavours and sauces. Quick bite to eat. However, no place to sit. Good for "to-go". Cheap and value for money
Andreia Silva
Great food. Quick service. I decided for the Chicken Rice ($7), and it didn't disappoint. It's very well served (enough for two). The sauce it's amazing!
R
YUMMM. We randomly came across here the first night we arrived in NYC. I ordered a lamb platter and my friend got a beef platter and it was delish! BEWARE of the "red sauce"… it was soooo spicy that we were literally crying when we were eating. Inexpensive, quick, and good… what more could you ask for? TOTALLY WORTH THE HYPE.
The Compulsive Eater
So I was pretty skeptical about this place. I had heard all the hype and all the buzz but I wasn't completely sold. One day walking thru the streets, I decided I was going to stand and line and check this out for myself. Well the rating speaks for it self. I had the chicken/gyro combo with the rice and salad. OMG was it amazing! The white sauce is to completely die for and mix in the red, straight to heaven! Definitely even better than the hype! I'm drooling even thinking about it right now.
Abhirup Saha
In manhattan, but never had a food truck experience? Never make that mistake I was about to, until my colleagues intervened. They took me to the Halal guys, and believe me, there's always a queue for their grub in the evening. I settled for the Chicken Rice, and let me take a moment to explain what's it all about; its essentially diced chicken on yellowish rice, and some Pita breads on top. This is best had with a generous helping of Mayo sauce, Barbecue sauce (to taste- I like substantial) and Hot Sauce (to taste- I prefer minimal). It is yum, and a truly roadside experience. The portions are huge, so pack an appetite.
Surf&Turf
This place is unbelievable.. I dont know how many times i pulled my car on the street and waited for this heaven like chicken over rice with of course, white sauce:) "helal guys" is the best spot in nyc if you are looking to eat c over r . Ohh, i missed my college years.. wish i could turn back.
Vineet Sawant
It's very average.<br/>The rice didn't have any flavour or seasoning, just coloured rice.<br/>The chicken was bland.<br/>There was no sautéed onions or veggies.<br/>The hot sauce was very eh!<br/>Overall, eh!
Primada Hudayani
I finally witnessed myself The Halal Guys cart phenomenon in 53rd and 6th. This is the must visit and must try chicken and gyro over rice for New Yorkers and new comers. As this is my first time in New York, i don't want to miss it. A jumbo size of halal combo (gyro and chicken) over rice is only $8. Affordable, halal, and ENAK BANGET.
Harsh Chandarana
You just cannot miss this when you're visiting New York! No place better than some lovely hot rice platter during winter on the streets of Manhattan. Surrounded by high rising 5 star hotels, but people wanna have food here, and why not, they're amazing! Lovely platters, crisp falafel what can one want more?
LaamK90
This is the only food truck stop i made while i flew from Dubai to NY for 2 nights. I read and watched alot of reviews before deciding to see what the hype was about. wow! Super yummy food, extremely nice and fun staff, speedy service.<br/><br/>I had ordered chicken over rice and my sister ordered the meat version, both served with bread and some lettuce/salad. The white sauce is very tasty and they give you enough of it and more but i did stay away from the hot sauce. The chicken tasted heavenly. Id definatley come back for more when i return next time. :)

New York'tayım ve rehberimizin anlatımı ike dikkatimizi çekti. Zaten kuyruğu görmemek zor. Jairo denilen dürümleri ve pilav üstü et ve tavuk tabakları var. Her ikisi de lezzeti, fazlası ile doyurucu ve de ucuz
Mohsina Siddiqui
Very good food. Value for money. We ordered chicken rice and damask rice. Both were for 7 dollars each with big portion sizes. Taste was amazing specially their white sauce. I
Sam Kuek
Very long queue but it's all worth it! $7 for such a big portion is superb for sharing if you're a small eater. The meat has so much taste!!
Diego Mutti
Very nice experience in a amazing context near the park. Great food for a really good price. You know it's going to be good when there is a long line. Don't worry; it moves really fast.

No food trip in New York is complete without experiencing lining up under the sun for Halal Guys. Just look at the crowd! The people has spoken!. When you’re in doubt as to where to eat in a foreign city, don’t stuff your face with boring, greasy food from the nearest chained fast food joint. Walk around and look at where people are lining up. Sometimes you just don’t need the Michelin Star guide or Yelp…how long the line up is pretty much tells you everything you need to know.
Cowtown Foodie
Wow the line up is long but the food is worth it. I got the mixed plate and the white sauce makes this dish so tasty. The portion size is huge for the price you pay ($7) and it sure satisfy the belly! What a delightful experience to have great street meat!
Tanisha
So we first tried the famous chicken over rice inspired by the Halal Guys at an upscale restaurant in Dubai called Tresind when they featured it on their Ramadan menu. Needless to say we were extremely excited to try this delicacy on our upcoming trip to New York and we finally did today! Long story short, loved it and it's definitely a must-try!
Stephyy Martinez
Comfort food at its finest! I had the best mixed chicken and gyro over rice for $7. It's crazy how this particular food cart never runs out of customers. The food was absolutely divine! Serving was way more than I expected (you might need a friend to help you out with a plate, trust me its impossible to finish one on your own, I tried). Their white sauce is to die for 😩😁 And the long queue will surely be worth the wait.
Roy Michael Allen
I'm usually picky about the food carts I visit, but I would go to these guys at 10 am everyday. This food never is bad NEVER if it's 8pm on a Thursday or 430 on a Saturday these guys always deliver. Food is always tasty and sauce selection is out of this world and with all this food your only spending 6 bucks for a meal that will have you full until the next day.
Nazish Munir
My relatives mentioned that there are long queues until 3 am and it was true! When we reached there, I thought it would take long but it went quick. I decided to get their famous platter, combination of chicken and meat over rice with some pita bread pieces and sauce. I only put white sauce over because I am not a big of fan of having spicy food. The platter was excellent and absolutely delicious! Meat and chicken tasted even better with white sauce. I wouldn't eat it without white sauce. The platter had orange rice as well below the plate. Next time I would share with someone As we all had left overs because they offer a huge portion!<br/><br/>Overall, It is one of the cheapest and best street food in NY! <br/><br/>What I had, <br/>Meat and chicken over rice- $6 (Dhs 21)<br/>---------------------------------------------------------------<br/>If you liked reading my review, check out @nazish.munir on Instagram to stay updated!

This place was my no. 1 'must eat' and I was totally not disappointed. I've even visited it 3 times during my trip. I also put lots and lots of the white sauce and just a little bit of the hot sauce because it is seriously hot and this is coming from an asian. LOVE THEM.
Wafa Alfalasi
We ordered one chicken rice and a mix of chicken, beef, lettuce and bread with rice it was good but I added too much of their spicy sauce and it burned us🔥😂<br/>Recommended 😋👌🏽
EmptyBee
Certainly great food at a great price. There's a tremendous amount of food in the platter. So much so I was to full too finish. Beware the hot sauce. It's very tasty, but can very easily overwhelm the dish and make it one dimensional. Go light. It's hard not to score it high solely on the volume, and quality you get for the value.
Caner Acer
If you are from the middle east and you miss traditional foods, you should visit there. You can eat delicious lamb shish served with white rice and green salad. It costs something like $9 with a can of gingerale. Believe me you should try all of the meals and enjoy all of them.
Fork.it
Our favourite street food in NYC!!! You can't go wrong with this food cart. $7 for a packed tray of mixed meat, rice, lettuce and pita. Can we talk about the white sauce?! IT'S AWESOME! Wish we could take a bottle home! But hey, go easy on the hot sauce. They're not joking around with that heat!
Chinmayee
The bestest spiciest tastiest street food in all of New York city! (I am from India and eat super spicy food usually.. So this was manna from heaven for me) 😝 There was a long queue outside the original Halal Guys (obviously) around noon and the smells that wafted towards me were delicious! My friend and I got in the line which moved forward swiftly to my surprise. Ordered chicken over rice (sadly they don't have lamb over rice which is my favourite) and was served in 30 seconds. Grabbed a soda and paid just 7$ for that entire meal! I hadn't tried the food from the original cart before and didn't know how spicy the hot sauce would be but soon was crying and eating at the same time. 😝 (check out the pice below to see how much hot sauce i added unfortunately) Hats off to you guys! You've finally nailed what spicy and hot really means! The chicken over rice was delicious and was perfect with the cold soda. The seasonings were spot on and the white and hot sauce yummy! I could barely finish half of it in one go and had to wrap up the rest. No complaints there... Had a wonderful dinner again with the leftovers!😝 three cheers to The Halal Guys!!
Jai Andrew Lawrence
Can't go wrong with Halal Guys! Get yourself a mixed platter and rice and you'll be well fed for the rest of the night. Chicken is well flavored while the fat of the meat flavors the meat extremely well. The rice is nicely seasoned and well portioned while you get a decent portion of bread too. The best under $10 meal NyC offers!
Ravi Kiran Arepalli
just like you cant miss the sights and sounds of New York while you are there, you CANT MISS the chicken  over rice/ lamb over rice  etc.<br/><br/>The white and red sauces are a super combination and elevate the taste.<br/><br/>The falafel over rice is good too. So all you vegetarians can partake in the experience too :)<br/><br/>Go on a empty stomach and you will not regret it.<br/>Be prepared to wait for your turn during peak lunch time.
Soojin Lee
This was my first halal guys experience. I think the waiting in line was more fun to me than the food itself. Very friendly new yorkers shared their love for halal guys food while waiting. And the food was good also. But don't be shy with their white sauce!!!!! Delicious.
JJ Wong
Yes. Every tourist has to come here at least once twice thrice. I went to see what all the fuss is about and for that price oh man that's some delicious gyro and chicken shawarma we're talking about! Be generous with the sauce. You'll love it.
Kevin
Gyro. The BEST gyro I have ever had...get the spicy sauce! GREAT food truck!
MinnesotaFoodie
Yes, it is that good!. Some of the best middle east food I have EVER eaten! And when you consider what you get for the price, it cannot be beat. A friend told me about driving over from Long Island just for a "Halal Guys run" during college. Now I understand why. I will definitely be back!
Foodieelove
The hype is for real!. There was a long line, but I would say it went by fast enough. I ordered chicken over rice for just $6 and I even had left overs because they give you a lot of food! The white sauce tasted great with the chicken and the hot sauce was really good but way too spicy. My bf and I normally eat spicy food, but The Halal Guys's hot sauce was extremely spicy!! So be careful not to pour it on your food like how we did lol. Overall, it was excellent!
Fauziakhan
Awesome. Had some sandwiches they were the best.
Jayme
Are at this location at least 5 times in two weeks and was always amazing.
Hison
At 3AM this place shines like the lighthouse of Alexandria. One of the best drunk stops in the area. Skip the 9pm or 10pm line and go to one of the many other Halal Guys carts that dot the area. This is the Halal your mama warns your about, and be sure to get extra sauce.
Edward Liberatore
Every time I come to New York I stop and grab a mix platter from here. Great Good even better price.
Greg
Exceeds your expectations. Not much else to add to what everyone else's praise. Worth the wait. Had the sandwich and the meat over rice....prefer the mixture over rice and prefer the chicken mixed with Lamb (gyro) then just lamb over rice. The white sauce is to die for and the red is extremely hot but great mixed in tiny doses.
The Blue Collar Gourmet
Chicken and Gyro Mix with the works peppers, white and hot sauce is the way to go. Certainly not the best food in town, but tasty. They have great portions and it's quick if the line isn't too long.
Toni Speer
A Must! I come back every time I'm in Manhattan. Mixed chicken & gyro over rice w white sauce is absolutely worth waiting in line for. Especially when u get a whole meal for $6. Be sure to go to the yellow and red umbrella that says "We are different." The other w an apple on the skewer is a fake.
Lepricano
Cheap, Tasty, and Good. This is the stuff. There is a reason that people wait in line in the heat, the cold and the wind. This is great food and no matter what you get it will be good. Be ready to order when it is your turn or you will really piss off the people behind you. I saw a man stand in line in front of me for about fifteen minutes and when it was his turn he decides to think about his options. The crowd behind him were not pleased. This is New York buddy.
Randy
Be careful with you belongings. I had heard stories about pick pockets while waiting in line. I didn't really believe it until I dropped my phone in line and before I could even bend over to pick it up, a Halal Guys employee grabbed it and ran away. I caught him and had to wrestle my phone out of his hands. Then two other employees in street clothes started shoving me and one of them took a swing at me. I called the cops and they said that they have trouble with these guys all the time. I like the food but will sadly never go back.
Can
Best food stand in Manhattan. The food is simply delicious! Fast and efficient, great price. Highly recommend them.
Uzair S
Hyped. These guys arent worth going out of the way for... Food is nothing to write home about. Sauces could be much better. yes it is value for money but in a place like NYC you would think they would need to do more to have a following.
Debbie
This is awesomeness
Dylan White
This is possibly the best and cheapest meal you will have in NYC. Everytime someone comes to visit, I make it a point to take them here. The portion is huge, its cheap, delicious, usually not much of a wait, and filling. Me and my friends love "platters" so much, I usually have to buy five to bring some back to my friends.
Kramer
For $6, you can't beat the Lamb Platter! Great flavor & big portions.
Buddha Fruits
The combo platter has chicken, ground lamb, yellow rice, chopped pita? Everything tasted fine, but non remarkable. I've had better cart food with a hot grilled lamb sandwich with grilled onions and hot pita. What's the fuss?
FoodPilot
AMAZING CHEAP FOOD, LONG LINE, BUT WORTH THE WAIT!!!. It's nothing more than chicken and lamb with yellow rice and some white sauce, BUT WOW!!! AWESOME!!!!! One of the best, if not the best, street food carts in NYC!!! :)
Grace Teng
THEY SHOULD OFFER A CITYPASS FOR THIS SPOT!. I was brought to this place by my friend who lives in NY during my visit to the city - was told that this The Halal Guys is different from all the other countless Halal carts around the city…although I never did try the other carts (no comparison), I can say that it was a very worthwhile experience. The line-up is totally worth it!!! The chicken plate is inexpensive, SUPER delicious (THE RICE IS AMAZING) and most of all, the service was quick and easy. I didn't have to spend more time waiting for the food. It was provided to us right when we paid - HOT and FRESH. I almost believe that everyone should give it a shot and would probably enjoy it a little or A LOT!
Food Critic
Disgusting. Just terrible, I frequent nyc, and I was catching a show one night and need something cheap. I noticed that this Halal Cart is getting rave reviews online, and since I grew up eating middle eastern food, I said what the heck. When I got there, there was a line of about 50 people for this cart, so this has to be good? As I was waiting I noticed that the men making the food seemed a little dirty and sweaty, and all they were doing is scooping meat from a pile of shredded chicken or lamb on a grill, pilling it on rice with iceberg lettuce and chopped pita bread with a side of red and white sauce that I assumed was tahini and hot sauce. As I was waiting (about 20 min) I began asking the people around me and the people in line whether they had the food before and what to expect, to my surprise no one around me has had it and they were there waiting in line because of what they heard/read about this cart. When I got this food (I choose the lamb) I was shocked... It was awful, spice-less, greasy, and just not cooked right, the rice was the worse I've ever had, the red sauce was some low quality chili sauce and the white sauce was WATERED DOWN RANCH!! The pita bread was clearly once frozen and not fully thawed, this was some scam that somehow succeeded in creating an artificial momentum online, and people are fools, I noticed most of the people in line were either tourists that will consume anything popular and the other half were drunk pseudo-professional yuppies coming out of some bar/club/lounge and are willing to eat out of the trash. BRAVO, halal cart you really pulled off a great scheme of feeding new york what is a disgrace to the middle eastern cuisine and the meaning of cheap eats.
Steve M
Beware the Hot Sauce!. I was walking home from where I can't really remember late one night and as I found myself hungry and near the corner of 53rd & 6th, I did remember the stellar reviews of this cart from on line, so I decided, "Why the Hell not?". <br/><br/>The reviews did not let me down. Since this was a weeknight and way after midnight, the line was minimal, maybe five or six people long. These guys have their system down though; I had my food in my hands before I barely even knew it. <br/><br/>What I ordered was the chicken platter. Not really knowing what to expect (except that it was going to be mind-blowing), I thought this would be a plate of chicken parts on the bone. WRONG! It was pulled chicken meat, subtlety yet flavorfully spiced, served up with some very tasty and perfectly cooked pilaf style rice, grilled pita strips and some lettuce (which frankly I could have done without due to the wilt factor that goes along with lettuce being packaged in with hot meat and rice [anybody remember the "McDLT"?]). <br/> <br/>Anyhow, this stuff was great and really hit the spot! The anticipation of eating this incredibly amazing looking and smelling food forced me to hail a cab in order to speed home to my imminent feast. The whole ride home, it was just about everything I could do to keep from tearing into and totally destroying it, it smelled so wonderful. Glad I waited 'til I got home though because then I got to dress it with the indescribably delicious white sauce and the Hellishly piquant hot sauce. <br/><br/>Concerning the red sauce: I'm a major league pepperhead, but believe-you-me, these guys aren't effing around with this concoction and everything the previous 10 reviewers have written about this pureed essence of a red devil's gonads is absolutely the truth! <br/><br/>Please tread carefully when dealing with this capsacinous equivalent of plutonium!

O marmitex!! Kkkk Muito Bom!!

Amazing place. Lines around the block, but worth the weight. Hard to beat for late night food. Great prices, tasty good!!!
Tony Montero
Addictingly Good. At first glace, a typical platter doesn't look like anything special. While waiting in line, you'll probably see plenty of people walk up to the front of the stand to see what everyone is waiting for and simply walk away confused. But once you try a platter, you will be back to brave any line during even the coldest winter night. The mix of rice, meat, pita bread, lettuce and sauce is just the perfect midnight meal and the portion size is very filling. The white sauce is a must, but the hot sauce optional unless you have something to drink. This is because the hot sauce is very, very hot.
Jess Carey
The Halal Guys are a city institution, with their landmark red and yellow umbrellas marking their stands. They only do a few things, and do them exceptionally well, having opened back in 1990 to fill the gap in e market of catering to the high population of Muslim taxi drivers Read more about them, what they do and how they came to create the empire that now is on their website; I’m just here to tell you that the food is freakin unreal!
Goodeatsfinder
It's a myth that good food is always expensive.  For USD$6, you can get a delicious meal that's enough to feed two. Go early or expect a line!  They are very efficient so even if the lines are long, you never have to wait too long.  The white sauce is delicious and the red sauce is ridiculously hot! (Ask for the sauce on the side)  I also prefer the chicken over the lamb.  The Halal Guys Take note of their sign and locations. the line is quite intimidating We tried the chiken over rice. all comes with 2 slices of gyro   Simple but delicious Great for the nights you are hungry but did not want to spend a lot! The Halal Guys were so successful, we spotted at least 3 food trucks wearing the same yellow colored hoodies (owned by 4 different groups) around the 4 corners of one block! See!  Their logos are different from the Halal Guys Since I didn't try theirs', I can't comment which one is better If you did, please let me know! As much as I love my gourmet restaurants, I also love my cheap, street food. Having 3 stands on the corner of 53rd & 6th, I've noticed that no matter what time it is, there is always a line. That alone made me want to check it out. They even have sweaters...how cute.  I ordered the Chicken Over Rice, thinking that I was super hungry and I wouldn't be full. I. Was. Wrong. It was a large dish of basmati rice, shredded chicken, salad, pita and some of the best sauces . I only finished half of that. It was so filling and delicious. For $6, it was well worth it. M and I enjoyed this meal a

The meat in the wrap was delicious. The lamb was incredibly tender and juicy and the chicken had great seasoning.
Sheepish
It may not look too pretty in the picture, but this was one of my favourite meals in NYC. Kebab meat drenched in white sauce, with rice, tomato and lettuce sides and flat bread, all for $6. A great option for that midnight snack, or for a quick lunch. VERY tasty. We stayed at the Sheraton, so this cart was just down the road for us. We kept coming back for more. Just don’t think about hygiene, and you’re all good.
On The Chopping Board
My cousin introduced me to the Halal Guys food cart and told me that this is the only cart she goes to for Chicken Rice. I trust my cousin's judgement so I had to try this out for myself. Walking to this cart I can see a line spanning as far as the eye can see and I know its going to be good. Basic ingredients, made well and enhanced by the 'white' and 'red' sauces. The white sauce is cooling whilst the red is spicy. Word of warning - get the red sauce on the side as it may be too hot for a number of people. - See more at: http://www.onthechoppingboard.com/2014/02/quick-chop-tastes-of-nyc-part-2.html#sthash.p8taNKCu.dpuf

What I really like about this cart, unlike others, is that they give you small containers of white sauce and hot sauce, so you have more than enough sauce to pour over your food.
Tammy
I got their chicken plate, as directed by my friend, and for less than $10, it was a whole lotta food!  Especially for NYC.  I don't eat like a mouse (ie. very little) and there was still quite a bit left for my friend to munch on.  The flavor was decent, a little salty for my liking, but somehow very addicting!
Han And Diana
The real draw of the place is their "white sauce" which is described as similar to a tzatziki sauce, yogurt based goodness that you drown the whole plate in and go to town.
Sophia Lee
Tears were falling down my cheeks—partly because this was seriously the best thing I ate in New York so far, but eh, mostly because I went for another round of sauce-topping, and I squirted a buttload of hot sauce into it.
Jane Seo
The pita had sprinkles of seasoning, and I appreciated that it was warm. I only had about a quarter of the meal because my stomach was filling a bit queasy. I am not used to food with such strong artificial flavors. I guess having the most reviews on Yelp doesn't mean that the place is delicious.
Peachgirl
AMAZING! You've got to try it here! The food is delicious and service is pretty fast. This is probably one of the best meals in New York City (and it's under $10 - it doesn't get any better than this!).

Chicken and Rice so good! Good think I took a pic cause I don’t remember the side of falafel. Halal Guys is where it’s at late night.
Fairfield County Foodie
WOW! It was so unique, so tasty, so spicy (not as in hot spicy…but as in flavorful spicy). The meat was tender. Clearly marinated and then cooked in a wonderful blend of spices. I got hints of cinnamon, coriander, cumin and much much more. Once you start eating this stuff, you will find that you cannot stop.
I Just Want To Eat
The legend says that these guys are so profitable that they turned down a $1 million offer on their license! After seeing the number of people waiting in line, I am not surprised!
Mary Jo Luppino
Six bucks gets you a heaping mound of food. We got the combo with half gyro meat and half chicken. I actually preferred the gyro. The white sauce that comes with it is out of this world. Be warned, go easy on the hot sauce. I have no idea what makes this so good but it’s addicting and a must-try.
JB Jose
It’s very modest food (duh, it’s street food) but the room was filled with delicious odours the moment he arrived. The red rice had an earthy flavour that went very well with the smokey chicken. Forget the bread and generously slather the rice and chicken with the white sauce and the (very hot) chilli sauce and you’ve got classic comfort food.
Food Queen
While having some street meat in New York was a fun experience it didn’t quite live up to the hype or my taste expectations.

Let’s be honest, Calgary is not a cheap city.   New York isn’t either, but can you find $6.00 meal in Calgary that fills you up and is open late into the night?  I doubt it,  because I’ve tried.    I’ve come close, but there’s nothing like the Halal Guys in New York. Halal carts have become extremely popular over the course of these last couple of years and here we are… writing about the most popular cart in NYC: The Halal cart on 53rd street and 6th avenue. The cart, day in and day out, is always graced with a line the length of half of the block. It’s really that delicious. Believe it.

The falafels are moist and all the ingredients are fresh. The tangy creamy sauce is indulgent, whilst the red chilli sauce gives such a kick, I cannot help but eating more and more. The whole thing is tasty, and, with salad, somewhat healthy. Even better it is cheap. I found myself lining up for falafel on rice here multiple times.

It was a battle between pizza and chicken & rice. Since there was no pizza immediately available, we walked to 53rd and 6th the site of the famous Chicken & Rice cart. We waited in line for approximately 10 minutes. I ordered chicken & rice with hot sauce. Mr. G, Mr. K and Ms. S all ordered the chicken and lamb combo. We caught a cab back to my place and although we were all exhausted, we devoured the chicken and rice. As you can see, I started eating before I remembered to take a picture. In actuality, it doesn't really live up to the hype. I mean it hit the spot

From street culture to fast-food joint, the Halal Guys are set to dominate. Cult descriptions of nuclear red rice topped with pieces of meat and lashing of white sauce is just the beginning of a happy end to the night..

One of the many benefits of staying at 55th & 7th during my recent trip to NYC was its proximity to 53rd & 6th. For those of you not familiar, this is the location of the original Halal cart that has customers lined up for hours each day from approximatel

There are many Halal Carts around that block but this one in particular is in a class by itself. They are known by their distinctive yellow sweatshirts and plastic bags that read " The Best Halal………." They are only open at night from 7:30 PM to 4:00

Halal Guys is a popular place in NYC during lunch time and after late drunken nights. Apparently it is amazing when you are drunk. I decided to check it during my web conferences lunch time break. It was about 15 minute walk, and on the way we saw one cart called Halal Guys, but it was on 53rd and 7th. My friend told me to make sure I go to 53rd and 6th because there are some copy cats. I decided to skip on this one, and keep walking another block, and saw another cart with a long line. They were not Halal Guys. Across the street Halal guys had another cart though in the same yellow polos. I should’ve saved myself some time and went to the other cart. It was pretty popular, but not as popular as the one across the street. I ordered the chicken plate, and it was only $6. My friend ordered a lamb gyro for a little bit cheaper. They don’t have any rotating meat cooking at the location, but rather just a bunch of already cut meat keeping warm on a flat top.

The 53rd and 6th Halal Cart current has 965 reviews on Yelp with a 4.5 star average rating. 94% of people “liked” it on Urbanspoon. It even has it’s own Wikipedia page. What makes this halal cart so different from the other dozen halal carts parked down t

One of the things I also wanted to try in NYC was street food. I was told that the Halal Guys on 53rd and 6th were the best! They even had a website! Apparently, there are many imposters that take up that corner, but the real guys wear yellow shirts and only open from 7:30pm to 4:00am. We got to the corner around 7:50pm and there was already a line up down the street. The process was pretty fast, so we got to the front quickly. Mike and I shared the combo platter which included chicken, lam

Dear Food Diary: Last night we had a girls night out. It was a Recession Proof Night. Started off at the Hottest Woman of Comedy show ($4 tix). I can't remember any of their names, but they were very funny, except for the headliner Esther Ku (she was on L

“Chicken & Rice”, “The Halal Guys”, “The food cart on 53rd and 6th”, or whatever the name you know it by, it's THE food cart locals obsess over!

Another NYC must, is getting chicken/lamb and rice at like 3am and standing in that insane line. You HAVE to try it. It's around $6 or something for a lot of food. There is another cart (same owners) on the next corner but people are loyal to the original

Located in Midtown and identified by the large rock landmark, the 53rd and 6th street Halal Cart is a veritable New York City institution. For the city that never sleeps, what better food is there than street food that stays open from 7:30PM - 4AM?

Famous food cart on the southwest corner of this intersection, always has a loyal following and long lines no matter what time of night. Over the past few years they continue to streamline the process, so the wait is down to hardly anything many times. A

Lineups are strange things. I’ve seen people get in line for something they had no idea they were lining up for. Lineups make the destination seem more desirable – a general herd mentality really, that if all these other people like it, then it must be wo
