Review Ayza Wine & Chocolate Bar - New York City

John K.
Ayza Wine and Chocolate bar checks all the boxes. The ambiance is beautiful with delightful drinks, food and chocolates. We were impressed by the attention given to even the smallest details. My wife and I had a wonderful time at Ayza. It was our first time there and our server Olivia was very attentive and made some great suggestions from the menu. Not only were our cocktails delicious but they were like pieces of art. They had great options for appetizers and main courses were beautifully presented and tasted great. This has to be the best outdoor dining experience in NYC. You can even dine in an authentic streetcar parked outside. We will go back soon and try more of their cocktails, exotic cheeses and chocolates. We definitely have to have another chocolate martini. It’s a very unique experience and we highly recommend Azya It’s a great place to go on a date or with friends.

One of my favorite places in midtown. The chocolate martini is Amazing! I haven't had dinner there during the week but have gone a couple of times for brunch on weekends. The chicken tacos are delicious! The eggs-your-way platter (not sure of the official name) is also really good. Not sure if it's available during the week. I've also had the espresso martini. It doesn't have the chocolate shavings of the chocolate martini but was just as good. They gave us a sample of a sangria. That was the only thing that was horrible. All the servers are great! From the host to the waiters to the managers, all very polite and attentive. If you sit at the bar area by the entrance, you will freeze because the AC is on blast and blows directly down at the seats. Otherwise you can sit in the trolley which is really cute or the outdoor dining area I do wish they were open a little earlier during the week. I'd definitely get a late lunch. I have to see what weekday meals and desserts are offered and will report back. Definitely recommend!!

First bit of advice, make a reservation. This place is busy and for good reason, it also isn't huge with only a dozen tables inside and a few less outside. I ate at Ayza on my wedding night, with my wife, toddler and two family members who had gone eloped to NYC. The staff at Ayza had been brilliant and on the night the service and food were spectacular. They looked after us, made sure we wanted for nothing and made it worth every penny. We had a mix of the chicken, steak and wagyu burger meals and everything was perfect. I'd happily go back again. For 5 people, having starters, drinks and mains the total bill came to just over $350 dollars. Would happily recommend to anyone looking for delicious food that is worth paying a slight premium for! Thank you! Apologies for the photos where we'd already started, it looked too good to stop and take the photo first!

Came here for a friend’s birthday and it was incredible. I had the classic chocolate martini and it was covered in the most delicious chocolate shavings (see pic). The flavor balance between the chocolate and alcohol was immaculate. It is a must try! If you’re not that into chocolate their other cocktails are equally yummy. I recommend their grey goose based ‘Curiosity Killed The Cat’ drink. For dessert we ordered the chocolate earthquake cake which was served with ice cream and chocolate fondue to pour on top. Every bite was a dream (and completely worth the calories). The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. The vibe indoors was cozy with lovely mood lighting. Perfect for a date night. There’s also seating outdoors with beautiful decor it’s like dining in The Secret Garden. Absolutely loved this place. I will definitely be back!

I was introduced to this place by my coworker, and let me tell you, it’s been a staple bar of mine since. The bar is almost always free to sit, and the ambiance is so cute! It’s perfect for a night out with the girlies, or even a date night. Their chocolate martinis are a must try. They’re strong, tasty, and come with a truffle! My favorite is their raspberry chocolate martini, but they have a selection to choose from. Their food is also great as well! The chicken burrito is so good, and their fried avocado is a guilty pleasure of mine. All in all, a one stop shop for great food and drinks! Ayza has got it all!

I've gone to this place a couple of times before the pandemic and just went back again recently, and it's still just as awesome. The food is great, the service is very good, and the drinks are on point. The inside is extremely small, so I was happy to see they added a covered outdoor seating area which was really nicely set up. I'm looking forward to returning again.

Stopped for a night cap and had an excellent experience. Great drinks and wonderful ambiance. I would highly recommend a visit. I had a spiked hot chocolate which was amazing!

Ayza is all around one of the best HH spots in town! If you are a chocolate lover, don’t miss the chocolate martini! The chocolate shavings and a piece of truffle on the side will make you forget all the stress from work. The food is also delicious here, and our favorite is the forest mushroom pita tart. The service is prompt and friendly! Our server, Liv, took care of us and made our anniversary celebration feel extra special! The ambiance is great, with many options for seating: indoor, covered outdoor patio, or the trolley. It is too bad that HH ends by 6 pm.

One of the worst food experiences I’ve ever had. We arrived at the restaurant at 10:50pm, and didn’t see a waitress until 11:10. We tried to order an entree only to be told the kitchen closes at 11pm. Even though we were there before it closed, and there website says nothing about this policy, they refused to let us order an entree. Instead we ordered a cheese plate and appetizers. Cheeses were terrible. Brie is my favorite but theirs was rough. Grocery store TJ is better. Then over an hour after ordering, our appetizers finally arrived. Blazé and boring. The white truffle pizza was lackluster and too heavy handed on the truffle and my boyfriends panini ended up making him sick. The waitress was slow, inattentive, and seemed to not care at all. Management was unhelpful. Overall would very much So not recommend. We came for the dessert and never even got to try it because everything else was so terrible, we didn’t want to waste any more of our time and money. NYC is a wonderful food city, so don’t waste your time here.

I had a great experience at Ayza! Not only did I arrive an hour late (I had reservations for 7pm) I was accommodated regardless of getting there late. My friends and I did not have to wait to have our orders taken. The food was awesome and the wine was amazing! I was celebrating my birthday and would definitely recommend this place to my friends and family!! I will be dropping by pretty soon! Thank you Ayza for your service!

This is just a special little place! I don't know how they get so much flavor in every small plate! Wines and cocktails are delicious. A really wonderful night out!

Nice atmosphere, but high prices with small portions. We only had wine and chocolate, so I can’t speak about the dinners. Our server was not attentive.

The food was GREAT, staff is amazingly friendly and kind, and the sangria is perfect! Loved it, the patio was perfect on a hot day !

It's a very cool and hip spot to eat and drink at. I enjoyed the sangria, fondue, chocolate earthquake cake, and the chocolate wine.

Haven’t been there for several years.....so glad we finally did it. We had an Open Table reservation & were seated immediately. Cucumber water was poured into our glasses & then we each received a complimentary taste of their Sangria which was quite good! I got an appetizer & my husband got cheese & prosciutto. The waitress helped us choose the perfect wines. We each had chocolate for dessert & once again she helped us pick the perfect wines to accompany our dessert choices!!!!!

I made a reservation both on OpenTable and through the website via email a week prior to the date I planned on visiting. I specifically asked for a table closet to the street (which there are at least 4 of). I got confirmation on both reservations. My sister and I arrived at the restaurant 5 minutes prior to 4pm which was our reservation time. Not only was a table by the street not reserved for us, but they hadn't even looked at our reservation! They told us that we would have to wait 15 minutes for a table that we made a reservation for. That wasn't even the worst part, we were given 4 different excuses by different people! #1 it was our fault for being early and expecting a table to be ready. #2 the hostess wasn't there yet to look at the reservations. #3 we weren't allowed to request an area to sit online and #4 we made the reservation for 4:30 not 4pm. All of which were bogus because the person from the establishment had confirmed my reservation the day after I made it!! I was able to show the email to the people that kept coming up and blaming us which were the most unprofessional, irritating conversations I have had! We ended up having to wait more than 30 minutes (didn't get seated until 4:35)and the service was terrible. Slow, unattentive, and rude. We had used the code Girls night out to get a complimentary chocolate shot and strawberries (which they could clearly see on the reservation)...we had to ask for the strawberries and then had to ask AGAIN for the chocolate shot. Needless to say I don't recommend this restaurant to anyone and I will not be returning. We didn't even receive an apology from a manager or anything!! There are hundreds of great places in the City who honor a reservation and who had world class service, skip this one.

The staff and food were amazing as always. I would recommend the Lychee martini, classic chocolate martini, Moscow Mule, and Brazilian bellini. As far as food we had the avocado steak fries, crispy baby shrimp dumplings, angry chicken lollipops, AYZA'S GUACAMOLE, white truffle pizza, and the CHOCOLATE EARTHQUAKE CAKE.

A beautiful day to sit outside. Loved that they had different things to try. Got three appetizers to split with friends, they were delicious! Service was great and staff was very nice. Would definitely go back.

This was such a wonderfully unexpected experience. Cozy & unique. Laid back vibe & reasonable prices. Just what we needed after a crazy week. I don’t understand any negative reviews. Servers were efficient and attentive without hovering. No pressure & no rush. Perfect to enjoy good conversation and great food. We were blown away & can’t wait to return.
