Review The Musket Room - New York City

Divine, and most definitely one of the best meals I’ve had this year. The space is a bit modern rustic and has a lovely vibe to it and the service for the evening was exceptional. I went with the omnivore menu and every dish was a delight, with top notch ingredients and great flavor combinations. Stand outs included an amazing lamb tartare and a cauliflower foam with caviar. I definitely look forward to a return visit!

Overall, the tasting menu is excellent. The Kristal Caviar was out of this world and the star of the show. The squab and pork dishes were cooked perfectly. Cocktails were well-balanced and tasty. The jerk ice cream was an interesting twist.

I can’t state this vehemently enough… Dining at The Musket Room was an absolutely phenomenal experience. I have been lucky enough to dine around the world and have had a few Michelin star experiences. This one was tops. This meal will be remembered fondly for the entirety of my life. My friend and I both enjoyed the Omnivore tasting menu and the wine pairing. The worry with a tasting menu is that you will be full before you finish, hungry when you leave, or that each dish couldn’t possibly be delicious. This tasting menu blew all of the preconceived notions of what a tasting menu should be out of the water. Each dish was a flavor sensation. It was the perfect amount of food for a full experience. And the wine pairing was absolutely outrageous — I was wildly impressed with each combination. The wines were so delicious that my friend and I asked for pictures of a few of the bottle labels to look for when we return home. Finally, our server Bobby made the entire experience memorable. He was attentive, friendly, casual, caring, funny, welcoming, informative. Bobby made us feel like we were his only table for the night, like we were in his living room, like we could be friends for life. I would visit 1000 more times to sit and chat with Bobby. We had friends show up at the tail end of our meal and he invited them to sit next to us, treated them to a glass of dessert wine, and gave them the cookie box that complemented our meal. I can’t imagine ever having better service than what we received from Bobby. I will be recommending The Musket Room to everyone I know, forever. I hope it is open for decades to come, I will be returning every time I am in NYC. I would give 6 out of 5 stars if I could, rate it an 11 out of 10. Fantastic.

One of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had and definitely the best vegan dining experience I’ve had! I went for my birthday, and we got two vegan tasting menus, one with the wine pairing. Basically every dish was perfect, the only one that I thought was merely a 9/10 was the seaweed caviar because the avocado underneath tasted like a pretty standard guac mix, nothing special-although the seaweed caviar itself was amazing. The gazpacho was one of our favorites, a perfect amount of creaminess and fresh crisp and sweetness from the grape and cucumber(?) in the middle. The eggplant dish was also a fav contender because of the miso base that tasted basically like a rich tonkatsu broth, despite being vegan! The rice pudding was stellar as well, the red bean ice cream blending perfectly with the salty crispy rice puff and the fruits in the pudding. Textures and flavors melded exquisitely with every course, and would happily come back another time when the tasting menu changes. Needless to say the wine pairing was excellent as well, every note and interaction that our server described came across, and added so much characteristic to each dish. 10/10 restaurant if you’re looking for Michelin star fine dining at a respectable price point for the quality and experience.

The tasting menu is lovely. Well balanced, fairly priced and a good amount of food. All the dishes seemed very thoughtful and were well presented. This place is upscale but still has an approachable feel which I find really nice! I’d recommend this place to try!

Tasting menu was lovely and well-priced. The interior was fairly relaxed for an upscale restaurant, which gave it a warm, homey vibe, and the tasting menu flavors echoed the environment. There was quite some variety across all the dishes, and some sort of odd tastes, but the bread with anchovy butter was fantastic, and the real star of the show was the fruity and tropical tuna. We enjoyed the tuna so much that we separately ordered a few more plates to share, since the flavors were so bright and the texture was immaculate. The starter with caviar was also delightful. Overall, the portions are small, even for a tasting menu, so I wouldn’t expect to be super full but it was a fun trip and I’d recommend visiting at least once.

Went here on a whim last Saturday evening, and it was not at all what I expected (though not necessary in a bad way). With a name like “The Musket Room”, I was expecting wood paneling, some dead animal heads, and maybe a musket on the wall. It fact, the atmosphere was modern, trendy, and fairly unassuming. My impression is that the restaurant wanted the food, not the decor, to make the impression. I had the omnivore tasting menu with the wine pairing. With the first toe courses (caviar and lamb tartar, along with a champagne wine pairing) I was worried that I committed to a fairly expensive outing for only “okay” food. Fortunately, things improved markedly from there. The octopus and pork dishes were fantastic, and the wine pairings got more interesting as the evening progressed. The Jamon and mussel supplement was worth the add-on (though I’d suggest splitting it, just so you can try it). Overall, I thought it was an interesting culinary experience and I’m glad I did it, but I probably won’t go back at that price point.

This restaurant has been on my list all year so my expectations were high but the meal never quite lived up to the hype. My boyfriend and I went there on a Friday night and the place was strangely empty (I guess that’s august in the city for you). We both ordered the omnivore tasting menu with wine pairing which came out to around $250 a person without tip. The start of the meal is probably the most disappointing with the king caviar being extremely salty and the lamb tartare on the opposite end completely lacking seasoning and flavor. The highlights were the bread, harissa octopus, corn soup and ham add on we did. Wine pairings were interesting and with the exception of the champagne at the beginning, probably the most exciting and fun thing about the evening. In the end the food was good, but for the price, portion size, and level of buzz, it wasn’t enough for me to give it a rave or even recommend it to friends. I’m glad I can check it off my list but I will not return.

We had a prefix dinner to celebrate our honeymoon. I was able to swap a couple of items with vegetarian items. Amazing wine selections to pair with well crafted and executed plates. Definitely recommend it.

Went here for an indulgent anniversary dinner. Did not disappoint! In fact we left deciding this needs to become an annual tradition. We got the vegan tasting menu with the added reserve wine pairing, which were both phenomenal. The flavors were so complex and some dishes introduced me to spices and ingredients I had never eaten. The staff were delightful and so informative. Absolute wonderful experience.
The Restaurant Fairy
The Musket Room, unassumingly nestled in the Lower East Side serves up some really stellar New Zealand cuisine. Chef Matt Lambert, a New Zealand native, composes artful plates inspired by the country of his origin. This Michelin star-rated restaurant follows the influences of the country’s cuisine from traditional to modern paying homage to the customs of hospitality in the Maori culture.

Another of my pre-booked choices on our holiday. Menu appealed and only a couple of blocks from our hotel.

After a slightly tortuous booking confirmation (they had the booking for Monday 23rd, when Monday was actually the 24th - and the front of house lad seemed to think I was trying to confuse him rather than vice versa), almost everything else was perfect. Very attentive and pleasant server, who was knowledgeable and happy to check anything he was unsure about. We deliberated over the tasting menus - my partner is semi-veggie, and very picky, but the server said they could substitute dishes that were not to his liking. This shows a complete lack of the usual Michelin "we know best" attitude. We went a la carte instead. He had asparagus, I the Spanish mackerel, cut into a "tagliagtelle" spiral sitting in the buttermilk and dill dressing. Looked too good to disturb, but I did, and the light and silky dressing caressed the fish so gently it was a dream to eat.

He played too safe with the ricotta dumplings which though lovely, were no match for my red deer and he was very jealous (I generously gave him a couple of tastes!). Four pieces of perfectly med-rare venison fillet, an amazingly velvety basil cream, and an intense reduction sitting in the middle. I'm not a fan of licorice in any form, but here it was used perfectly to give a slightly kicky aftertaste. It was a flavour bomb.

He had the chocolate "manipulations" (ahem) which came with a show stopping mint -choc ice cream which he described as "barely sweet". I had the Woodcock Farms blue, and here was the only mistake in the whole meal. The cheese was ripe and lovely, but I couldn't understand why I had a greasy, oily aftertaste. I realised that the toasted sourdough was pre-buttered or oiled - the greasy mark on the serviette being the giveaway. Whatever they do to it, it's not nice. Serve the bread dry guys, and let the cheese speak for itself. Nothing like enough to drop a review star.

We chose wine by the glass, including dessert, and all were great.

That it was packed on a Monday night says it all. Fully worthy of its Michelin star, and managing a relaxed and casual atmosphere. Hearty recommendation.
I Just Want To Eat
I heard for so long about The Musket Room that, in my quest of going to each and every Michelin Star restaurants in the city, I recently stopped by this place that celebrates New Zealand’s cuisine, a cuisine that Chef Matt Lambert, a native of New Zealand, masters perfectly, crafting a menu that is an incredible experience for the eyes and for the taste buds. The place itself has a rustic feel and warmth that can only be disturbed by loud diners who can make the experience painful...

This is a great Michelin 1 star restaurant that focuses on the details - from the plating to the decor to the service. We had good tasting food at a reasonable price point. If you want a quieter meal, get a table in the back room overlooking their garden. If you are looking to celebrate a special occasion this is a great choice.

Qualty

No wonder this place is so well reviewed.
Lovely, simple decor and efficient staff ensure the focus is on the beautifully presented food.
We chose a la carts and were blown away by every dish . The red deer was a standout, but each course was delicious.

We’ll definitely be back to try the degustation menu next time.

Gluten free brioche is amazing! Such warm bread. Portions are small so be prepared. Almost all desserts are gluten free. End the meal with a complimentary macaron
Let's Nom Nom
The Musket Room has been on my to try list for a while, and despite having the word “musket” in the name, this place was very vegetarian friendly. It feels like more of a special occasion restaurant, but the ambiance remains relaxed and approachable. An excellent choice for a girls night out, and the service was impeccable from start to finish. New Zealand native, chef and owner Matt Lambert, combines classic French training with New American dining in this upscale, mid-century modern setting in Nolita.

Not Just Vegetarian
Go to Musket Room to eat modern New Zealand cuisine by Auckland born Chef Matt Lambert (Saxon + Parole vet). I was wowed last weekend when I went to Musket Room , a casual yet intimate restaurant in Nolita. I want to keep it a secret, and am hesitant to write about Musket Room, but yet, I want to tell you to go to Musket Room before the NYC dining world discovers it and makes it incredibly hard to get a table there.
The wine list has many wines from New Zealand in addition to some from the other global wine growing regions. All the dishes were prepared with care and thought given to flavor and texture combinations, and were plated exquisitely. There are two tasting menus – 5 courses at $75 and another with 9 courses at $115 per person. We ordered a la carte and yet we ate some of the Chef’s best dishes as recommen
Eat Like A Lady
Nolita restaurant, The Musket Room, is serving up “modern New Zealand" cuisine from Saxon & Parole vet Matt Lambert. It’s got a beautiful, rustic ambiance and the food is beautifully plated, but the entire meal doesn’t quite match up to all this beauty. Both entrees were incredible feats of flavor and creativity and really blew me away. The appetizers and dessert didn’t quite please in the same way, and considering the price, I want to be impressed at every course. I also for some reason felt out of place the entire meal. In many ways it was just lacking a sense of warmth and charm. Considering how delicious the entrees were, I shouldn’t have left feeling indifferent. But that’s just sort of how I felt. Cheddar Bacon Biscuit: Yummy yum yum yum! This was a very good biscuit. Here, they give you your choice of bread, but the biscuit was the most exciting option. I loved that you could distinctly taste both the cheddar and bacon, and I loved the fact that there were bacon pieces throughou

The Musket Room was a truly enjoyable experience, combining elements from both casual and elite dining into a well rounded and approachable concept. Well deserving of the Michelin Star.
