Review Los Tacos No. 1 - New York City

Fiona Ha
Delicious tacos. I especially enjoyed the grilled chicken and marinated pork ones. The quesadillas are just slightly bigger tacos. So 3 tacos or 2 quesadillas would make a full meal Oh and the best tamarind drink I’ve ever had! Nicely tangy and just the right amount of sweetness.

Located inside Chelsea Market, this is probably the best tacos I ever had in my whole life. The meat is juicy and savory, the cilantro adds some flavour. It is very much worth the wait. The portions are quite small but it makes it better to try different tastes.

The tacos are actually really good. The carne asada con Todo is definitely the winner here. The adobada is also a highlight. The pollo and cactus are also great to try but I would focus primarily on the beef and pork. Make sure you get the corn for a more authentic experience. The Aguas frescas are exceptional; we tried the Jamaica and the horchata. The line is painful but worth it. Overall, a very good and authentic taco experience to be had here in the Chelsea market.

I love the Grilled Steak and the Marinated Pork Tacos! The Chips w Guacamole was yummy as well! For those who are new to this, the ordering process is slightly different from the usual. 1. Order at the cashier 2. Pass the ticket to an available staff in the kitchen 3. Tell the staff which Tacos base you want (Corn or flour) 4. Tell the staff what preferred ingredients (Onion, cilantro, salsa and guacamole) to add on 5. Wait for the staff to prepare your tacos and to call you when ready. 6. Enjoy~

lives up to the hype - amazing tacos and great atmosphere! I'd recommend trying all the tacos (with corn tortillas) except the cactus, but my favorite is the pork - super juicy and flavorful. their horchata is really good also! usually a long lineup but it moves fast. once you order, give your ticket to the cooks and the tacos will be ready in no time

Wow. Worthy of hype. Best pork tacos I've had. The star is the meat - the cook, char, and seasoning is perfect. I had pork, chicken, and steak, that was my order of preference though all 3 were outstanding and worthy of having again. My wife enjoyed her tamarindo. The line was huge but the service was quick once I had my order in. There is a bar adjacent to the restaurant where I acquired a Double IPA to drink while I waited.

The best tacos I had in NYC. This spot was recommended to us by our local friends and this turned out to be the best spot. It’s located inside a building along with other establishments. It’s very crowded and you have to get a token to order. Be ready for a trip to paradise with their tacos but also for long wait times. It’s totally worth it.

The vegetarian option for tacos was just the grilled cactus (nopal) and it was super chewy for my taste. However, the sauces and the corn tortilla were delicious. I had so many options for spicy sauce! It is not a sit down place so you have to get the food and find a place inside the market. The tacos and the plates make it a bit of a messy affair.

The tacos and quesadilla are bursting with fresh, authentic flavors that transport you straight to Mexico. The ingredients are top-notch, creating a refreshing and satisfying experience with every bite. The value for the quality is exceptional, making it a must-visit. A tip: Send someone to find a seat while you order at the counter – seating is limited. Despite the long queue, the kitchen works efficiently, delivering orders swiftly. The quick service ensures you can enjoy your delicious meal without waiting too long. Don't miss out on this gem of an eatery!

Best Mexican food we’ve ever had. We ordered a mixture of meat tacos and quesadillas and a grilled cactus one. The meat was all well marinaded, juicy and melt in your mouth tender, and the grilled cactus surprised us having never had cactus before. The service was very efficient but my tip is to arrive 5 minutes before opening as the queue can get very long as the photos attached shows.

Stopped by the Chelsea Market in the after and noticed a long line up at this place. Went ahead and ordered the beef and pork tacos. The meat was tender and seasoning was well-balanced. The taco was homemade! Overall, it was a pleasant experience apart from not enough seating available.

I was at first suspicious about paying 3.00$ for a taco yet these were stunning! I needed to revisit the line for more they were so great. <br/><br/>Every one of the fixings were crisp and the guacamole y salsa were an incredible expansion to a customary taco. <br/><br/>Likewise don't stress if there is a line out the entryway. These folks will get your nourishment to you in merely minutes. Unquestionably worth the cost! I wish we had one in Milwaukee.

Was the first place the night that I extended my trip in New York, I figured why not celebrate with tacos! Had heard about this place and walked past many times and was a bit intimidated at the long lines outside. But they are 100% the best tacos in New York City. When I went it was a Thursday night and quite busy however the line moved quick and I was being served after 5 minutes of waiting outside. The only thing that could be improved is more places to sit/stand and eat, however that's to be expected because this place is so popular and for good reason. I'll definitely be back.

We stopped for dinner here based on the reviews. It is a no frills place, order at the counter & collect from further down the counter, stand up at the bars to eat your food while the music blares delightful music into the restaurant. The staff were friendly & the tacos delicious.<br/><br/>The corn tortillas are gluten free so we had two chicken & two pork tacos with a side of guacamole & chips, including a drink it was $27.00.<br/><br/>If you’re looking for a romantic dinner or somewhere to sit & linger over food this is not the place, it is fast paced, vibrant & has a no nonsense vibe which we enjoyed.<br/><br/>We will definitely go back to Los Tacos!
Abhishek Dwivedi
This place is usually busy so you got to queue up! Pollo Asado & Nopal were the two Tacos we ordered, and honestly these Tacos were super small in size with a bald filling. Maybe it was not a good idea to have Tacos for dinner, they were like some brunch, just 4-5 bytes and you're done. Found them average in terms of taste.<br/><br/>Secondly, I would suggest the outlet to use as less Plastic as possible! Other than the paper plate, spoons and takeaway glasses were of pure plastic.

Mucho Mucho Delicious!!<br/><br/>We have been coming to Los Tacos for years and it never disappoints. Be prepared to wait in line but it is definitely worth the wait. Our family favorite is the chicken and steak quesadillas. The chips, guacamole, and freshly made salsas are also delicious. We can feed the whole family on fresh food in NYC for less than $30, forget about it!

Melhores tacos que comi em NYC. Barato para a comida que era deliciosa. Serviço simples mas sempre educado e cordial. Boa "tasca" para comer verdadeiros tacos mexicanos.
Ritik Babbar
We stopped here on our self guided food tour of Chelsea Market. Since we were eating our way around we only got one taco each. Our group got the steak (good), pork (yum!), and chicken (smoky deliciousness). <br/><br/>You order and pay at one counter and then you go to the other counter and give your ticket to get your food. The staff puts together the tacos quickly with good stuff in it. Recommended.

This place is affordable and very authentic. Its small, cosy and the way they serve pickles, lemons is amazing. The staff is very friendly as well. I don’t believe getting such quality food in NY at this price is really possible. Must must try especially for taco lovers.
TacoGuyinDubai
The carne asada tacos are closest to perfection. Hands down the best tacos de carne i Have had outside Mexico...Please don't let the queue scare you
Naresh Dhiman
The lines are long and it does take some time to get your order in and get the food, but well worth the wait. It is also hard to find a place to sit anywhere in the market.<br/><br/>My wife and I came here and tried one of each of the tacos. The food is fresh and amazingly seasoned. They even make their own tortillas, they do it right in front of you.<br/><br/>The tacos are amazing and perfectly seasoned. The meat is perfectly cooked. The combinations for each taco is different so you are not just getting a different meat but a whole new experience with each different taco. <br/><br/>Definitely a place you must try.
Vibhuti
If you want the simple, street food this is the place to be. It's very popular and has counter service, space is big but you just grab a spot and eat away. The menu is really simple, it takes a whole wall so it's not hard to miss. You order your choice of tacos, they give you a ticket, you hand it off to the line cook<br/>and move down the line as the get fixed. At the end, you have delicious, homemade tacos in your hands. Coming from Texas, I was surprised that the level of heat was bearable and short lived but the tacos de carne asada were pretty darn good
Anthony Letayf
My wife and I were told to come here for the best pork tacos in NYC. While the pork tacos were indeed good, I found that the beef tacos were far superior. I cannot wait to head back to NYC to have a few more. Definitely worth a visit.

Excellent experience, very good and personalized attention, very good treatment of employees towards customers. The food is good, it can be said that the cooking of what they offer is at its point, of course my food has been there when I have eaten there, the prices are not so expensive nor so cheap, that is, it is somewhat average in prices, but of excellent quality. Its location is good, it frequents many Latin people, which is why it is great for us Latinos, we feel that warmth of home, our people's warmth because if we have something, it is good treatment towards others and respect, your employees can see that They are highly prepared for the attention to the public and their cooks do an excellent job because the food should be highlighted that is really good.
Anamika
I went here because it has a good reputation and i like taco's. There was a small line, but the staff worked quick and were very kind and cheerful. I chose for a chicken taco and it tasted good. Prices were good.

Very delicious but expect long queues and nowhere to sit and eat<br/><br/>Visited here while staying in Chelsea on July 2018. Very delicious but expect long queues and nowhere to sit and eat.

One of the best taco shack in the city. Affordable and tasty! I tried nopal, pollo and carne asada tacos as well as quesadillas. I even tried the fried cheese taco replacing the tortilla base but I would rather have the tortilla than the cheese, it tastes way better. You even have choices of sauces up for grab which tastes much better than regular food trucks around the area and the best part you dont have to ask for those again and again, you just pour as much as you want!

Quality food with simply amazing taste. A beautiful place with home like environment. Quick service and loved their overwhelming attitude. The items in menu are so tasty that something I get confuse which one to order.........nice experience in NY

Best tacos I’ve ever had ; and the most authentic tacos as well from what I’ve heard. <br/><br/>I tried both the chicken and beef in both flour and corn tortillas ; a must try if you are in the neighbourhood.

People keep queuing up in front of this place and this is for good reasons! Said to be the first place serving tacos in New York that rivals the taquerias of California, Los Tacos No. 1 have just a couple of compositions and I totally regret having tried only the carne asada and nopal tacos. Like in some sushi bars, you can first watch taqueros performing their show before you are served your taco. In my case, both carne asada and nopal turned out to be delicious: carne asada rather due to meat itself, nopal thanks to the interesting interplay between the cactus bits and additional sauces and vegetables put into the taco. In any event, the taste was superb. I only wish they had been larger.
Foodie Muggles
It's one of the most popular location in Chelsea market and we traveled all the way here just for the tacos. At first I got two tacos the grilled cactus (Nopal ) and the grilled chicken (Pollo Asado ). But the tacos are really small and I was not satisfied. The chicken one was good but didn't like the cactus one at all, maybe cuz it's acquired taste. So I decided to take the marinated pork taco (Adobada) and this one was the best among the three. I mean the tacos were good but they were not the best tacos I have ever had. Plus they were very small compared to the price. Maybe if I visit Chelsea market then I might eat here again but I would not travel all the way again just for these tacos.

Amazing mexican🌮 spot for someone who wants to eat in a hurry. First impression, i was like " oh no! Wish we had time to go sit in another restaurant in times square , this doesn't look reallyyy goood! " but Fortunately, i judged it before even tasting and knowing its a #1 tacos'<br/>Delicioussss!!!! I recomment it ! Going to the broadway show 🎭 ALADDIN afterwards with a full tummy after we kept ordering more and more was worth it btw 😋

I thought the service was really good. I liked most aspects of this experience. I liked the menu choices and overall I thought the restaurant was pretty good. The prices are reasonable and food was delicious. I liked the environment of the restaurant and liked the experience as a hole. I think the variety of tacos is great and gives you a reason to come back. I want to try all the varieties of tacos available in the restaurant. I liked the decoration and liked the colors that the restaurant has. Overall highly recommended, I would rate this experience a 4.3 out of 5 stars. Its a great place for family and also a great place to go with friends, you wont regret it and will want to go back.

By far, one of the best tacos I've ever tasted! Freshly made corn tortillas, tender and flavorful meat and sauces!! I mean what more can you ask for in life! The staff put on a bit of a show as the diners watched them prepare multiple orders with finesse. It was a great experience and am set on coming back before I head back to Toronto. Los Tacos No. 1 is a definite must!!

Having me try a burrito in Oklahoma is about the same as having me try a ribeye steak in India. I don't expect it to be very good. Man, this place took me straight home for a minute though. Taco Tuesdays, with those authentic style burritos and the green sauce that you can never seem to find or replicate but the "right" taqueria always seems to have it. Yea, this is the spot for Mexican food in NYC. I'll be honest I haven't been to a lot of them in New York but I'm just going to assume they aren't very good, but this one, this one is not that. You can even chase it down with a glass bottle soda which makes you know its authentic!

On a recent rip to New York City, I was touring Greenwich Village, specially a very hip and up-and coming, neighborhood that is considered to be very trendy by the locals called Chelsea Market. I was on my way to a prior engagement, and was looking for a place to grab a quick bite to eat, but my expectations weren't very high, as most of the restaurants in the are did not look particularly classy. I saw a food truck called Los Tacos No. 1, and since I have quite the weakness for tacos, I decided to check it out, despite it's disheveled appearance. From the minute I stepped up to order, I was very pleasantly surprised. I had to wait in a long line, as the truck was pretty busy, but the kind man who took my order was still incredible energetic and friendly, despite it being a very busy day. When I received my taco (in a very timely manner, considering the sheer number of customers that were also waiting for their tacos), I was again blown away with the quality of the food. The seasonings were excellent, and the vegetables tasted like they had just been chopped and never refrigerated. The meat was also delicious. This was probably the best taco I've ever eaten at any restaurant, and if I'm in the area again, I will be sure to drop by.

The tacos here are SO GOOD. There are so many options including options for vegetarians. The restaurant is typically really busy. Which entails little seating and a ticket to get your food cooked. But with all these guests you know the food is good. I usually get the grilled steak taco, but there are plenty of options on corn or flour tortillas. The guacamole is delicious and the prices are more than fair for the area. I think the customer service could lack at times but this is just due to the crazy amount of customers piling in their restaurant. If you are ready for an adventure, and trying something new, try the grilled cactus taco. I will continue going to this affordable, but delicious restaurant for my Mexican cravings!

I am a frequent visitor of this restaurant in Chelsea, typically for lunch. I went last Tuesday with two new co-workers of mine, who are new to the city. We were all feeling like Mexican, so I knew just the spot. The line was pretty long, as always, but moves relatively quickly, especially for the city. Before we knew it, it was time to place our order and I recommended the carne asada with quesa shell, a homemade specialty with cheese baked into the taco shell. The ordering counter and taco counter were both very efficient and friendly while completing our orders and before we knew it, we were off to find seating. Typically, there are no seats to be had, but today was somewhat different due to the Holidays being so close. We all devoured our tacos, which were cooked to utter perfection. I'd highly recommend grabbing a fork and several napkins for anything you order at this location as they tend to overload your orders with toppings and sauces. Not to mention the taste is simply outstanding and you will not want to miss a single bite.

I think this is the best Tacos I've had so far in NYC and now probably ruined any future tacos for me. The pork taco is awesome, crunchy slightly burned with a variety of toppings in a perfect ratio. There is a little bit of a wait but its relatively fast service and choices to add more sauces and salsa.<br/>The only thing is that theres not much of space to eat so either wait for someone to finish at the bench or go somewhere else. Try it, you'll love it !!

Long time readers of the blog know I consider tacos to be up there with fruits, vegetables and pizza as the essential blocks of the food pyramid. You may also know that the aptly named Los Tacos No.1 in Chelsea Market is in fact my No.1 taco spot in Manhattan. And that I’m generally unimpressed with the fish taco scene in this city. So when the Los Tacos team recently opened a Mexican seafood spot called Los Mariscos, I quickly assembled a crew to investigate.

If you want a Mexican bite to eat I fail to see how this place can be beaten.<br/><br/>We ordered two tacos and two enchiladas between two of us with different ingredients and they were all delicious. <br/><br/>The staff were friendly with the food served up quickly.<br/><br/>The only negative is there is no seating area so we had to find a place to perch to eat. If your after a bite to eat on the move and like Mexican food this place is ideal.<br/><br/>If we do return to New York we shall be here in a heartbeat!

Get there early because the lines are long! I got there at about 11am and there wasn't a line but by the time I finished eating the line was super long. But it's worth the wait. <br/><br/>The tortilla is made fresh and you can taste the difference. It's so soft and delicate. The taco is made on the spot so you can choose what you want in your taco. I got chicken and pork. They were amazing. There's also a station where you can help yourself to salsa. Nice touch! Super yum!

Chelsea Market style grab'n eat. Delicious tacos but hard to find a place to put your plate. I am no Mexican but this one tastes like an original Mexican tacos.
NYC KID
I love me some authentic Mexican food!!! Hard to find a taco spot that makes them any better than Los Tacos! Absolutely the best hands down! Classic street style just like from Guanajuato, Mexico in my opinion. Flavor, seasoned perfect and the guacamole is outstanding if you like it on your tacos. This place gets crazy now that it's been on TV... in the crazy Market, so be prepared to stand and eat or just take it to the Highline and enjoy! One of my few 5 ratings in NYC!
Kory Dopp
Incredible street food styled tacos. We tried the steak tacos as well as the pork. The meat was good quality, rather than some of the cheap (quality) taco places that serve meat that's mostly fat and gristle.
Shana
Hands down the best tacos I've had in the city. If you go with the chicken or steak taco you can't go wrong, but then again why not have both.
Mary Elizabeth Blair
Some of the best tacos I've ever had! Discovered Los Tacos a few years back and it's a must when you visit Chelsea Market! The guacamole is amazing too!
Chefsgirl
I've done a little traveling from coast to coast, north to south and have an experienced tongue for tacos. Los Tacos No. 1 is definitely highly ranked in my book. There's a pretty long line on this Sunday at 2 o™clock. The line extends way past a neighboring booth, but...
GrettaTheBlonde
I've never had legit tacos before... So, this place was already on a pedestal for me. It didn't disappoint at all!!! I got the pollo (chicken) on corn tortilla. I also had the horchata (rice milk and cinnamon drink) which was perfect for the summer! The Chelsea Market location had a long line but moved very quickly. It's worth the trip!
Laura Knight
AMAZING!!! No wonder why these Taco's are voted no.1!! Gluten free when you get the Corn tortilla, the guacamole is authentic and will send your tastebuds into over drive. The only downside is now your expectations are higher the next time you get any tacos...
Erin Anders
SO DELICIOUS!! The staff is friendly and the food is flavorful. I had the Cactus taco and the chicken taco- both of which were delicious. Don't forget the salsa, guacamole, and napkins!
Foodexpectations
Amazing tacos in a casual setting at cheap prices The food looks and tastes very fresh and the best tacos were the chicken and the pork ones.
Aldo
Great spot, authentic taqueria concept; if you go to Tijuana, this is what a taqueria would look and taste like (tacos) <br/>- quick and friendly service (just what you need in this jungle)<br/>Looking for tacos in ny? Los no. 1 is where you want to go.
Doug Leeds
The quesadillas are probably the best tacos in NYC. I said that right because the quesadillas are really more like tacos, but perfect, delicious pieces of heaven tacos. I've tried everything but the cactus and it is all to die for. I'm from Southern California, so I know my tacos. These are the best!!!!
Great Miscellany
...we were perusing the various vendors at Chelsea Market and came across Los Tacos No. 1, which had been highly recommended by some of our friends. Although we had just eaten, we decided to stop by and grab a quick bite as there was no line at the time. The line apparently gets pretty long during peak hours, so try to come at awkward non-lunch and non-dinner times to get in and out quickly. We had heard good things about the Nopal, but opted for the Carne Asada (steak) instead. The tacos tasted great,

The operation is interesting here. Place your order at the register, then take your receipt and stand in line at the counter to the left where you hand your ticket to the cook to prepare your dish to order. Don't expect for them to call our your number like I did (oops!).

Why Come Here? Some of Manhattans best tacos, cheap eats
Lauren
Hello, Los Tacos No. 1. I plan to return again and again. Los Tacos No. 1 was opened by three friends, two from California, and one from Tijuana, Mexico. Although it seems strange that authentic and delicious tacos are sold in Chelsea Market, a somewhat touristy, mishmash of a retail space filled with art, jewelry, spices, and restaurants, one bite of a taco from here, and it feels like you've been transported right to a taco shack in Mexico. Truly. The Best. We arrived at around 12:30pm and the line was 12 people deep. The 10 minute wait wasn't too bad though; we spent that time deciding how to narrow down all the good choices.  Prices of $2.50 - $3.50 per taco are pretty fair, as we found a decent amount of meat and fillings in all of them.
