The food is great! I would come here again for sure. The place is cool and the area has a neat, laid back vibe.
I Loved visiting this place. The food was awesome, the entertainment, and vendors were as well!
Queen Trini Lisa was off da chain!! Wonderful food .. very well seasoned!! Try the doubles & the spinach!!
This is a culinary incubator. So basically about 6 chefs work out of this location serving everything from desert to Caribbean food. I dont want to comment on any particular vendor but they all seem to have decent food quality. Prices are normally around 10-15 per entree. Seating is an open air food court with the metallic seats. Although it is open you can stay dry if there is a drizzle but you would need to pack up if it rained hard. They normally have music or dj on evenings or weekends. It is very close to a blue bike receptacle as well as public transit. But there is also parking in the back.
An absolutely amazing place to satisfy your culinary tastebuds. Variety of cuisine that you don't get at other restaurants. Everything from Chicken and Waffles, to Vegan taco salad, to seafood grilled cheese and more.
I've been to this restaurant on many occasions. I am a native New Orleanian and find that the true Spirit of New Orleans is here. This restaurant embodies the culture, diversity and feel of the city. It is a blend of people, food and festivities (as was evident when I attended the Jamaican Festival last year.) What everyone is referring to was an "experiment on race to get people to start talking about the differences in people, and to have a dialogue about race. This was an experiment by a "pop-up vendor" who does not have permanent residency there. The restaurant itself is truly a culturally rich place to dance, wine & dine.
I absolutely love this place. I drive 1.5 hours to the city just to get spicy Doubles from Trini Lisa (and I have her cell to call in advance) and to get the Taco fries salad from NOLA. It's very laid back and the owners are amazing!!!
Queen Trini at Roux Carre is awesome!!
Always support small/local businesses. Roux Carre is the perfect place for an outdoor lunch (everyday) and dinner (Fri/Sat). They have four-five food options that are all great and the seating space is phenomenal. They have live music sometimes which never fails. If you're up for Jamaican, Latin fusion, poboys and sandwiches or doughnuts this is the place to go!
To a lot of people "food court" is kind of a depressing word - reminding them of cheap fast food in malls - but Roux Carre demonstrates how amazing that concept can be. At first glance you might think it's a shallow hipster cash grab or a tourist trap - but in reality it's filled with local vendors that make some of the best damn food in New Orleans. This place is hip and cool and honestly - it's fun. The layout is awesome - it's open and breezy (which can be a detriment on colder days). That openness can feel a littler unnerving when you first walk in and get oriented but someone will quickly find you and offer you a menu. Every time I've visited (twice for lunch, once for brunch) the employees have been unfailingly pleasant.
As I mentioned at the start this is a food court - offering a wide range of options, each of which is pretty damn good. It can be hard to decide sometimes what to get - but that just means you have a chance to come back. It does help resolve the dilemma of where to go with a large group or picky friends - everyone can find something to enjoy here, even if they have strict dietary requirements.
Some of my favorites:
*Black Swan: Fried Avocados (you'll ask yourself why you don't always fry your avocados)
Roasted Beet and Orange Salad (for when you're feeling healthy)
*DivaDawg: Red Bean Chili Dawg
*Pupusa Lady: Got one with chorizo and one with sweet potato that were both great
*Johnny's Jamaican: Get the jerk chicken and plantains
On weekends they have a special brunch menu so some of the vendors sell different things - I know Black Swan has a fried jambalaya ball (think Arancini) that really blew me away. I had a lot of arancini growing up and this was potentially my favorite version. It was also such a great reimagening of a traditional dish that it brought a smile to my face (again, it's a fun place)
There's also a booth where you can get cans of local beer, wine or a cocktail. It's also where you can get a cup of coffee with brunch.
