Had dinner here during COOLinary month. I ordered the white gazpacho, squash blossom and burrata pizza, and the pot de creme. The gazpacho wasn't bad, but it was odd; the bites with the grapes and/or almonds were pretty good, but the white base by itself was kinda meh. The pizza was good. I'd never had squash blossom before, and the burrata cheese was tasty. The pot de creme was amazing; like light, mildly coffee-flavored pudding.
I had no problems with the service. The parking was a bit chaotic during the prime dinner rush, but there's plenty enough around. Overall I'd recommend, especially for a chance to try the more unusual offerings.
I prefer the bar atmosphere here as a pose to the main dining area. The small bites are wonderful and entrees are equally tasty. I'm a huge fan of Asian inspired dishes, apparently so is Susan Spicer.
I usually don't care for happy hour... Cheap drinks, crap food. Against my better judgement I checked this happy hour out. I had a wonderful Moscow Mule (@full price) and settled for a warm Gorgonzola app....bleh! There was nothing good about this. Like I said, I hate happy hour- unfortunately the regular menu isn't available until 5:30. For you happy hour lovers- from 3-6, 1/2 off house special drinks, house wine, & tap beers. As for me, I'll only be back during regular dining times.

love the spot. family oriented but can also enjoy a cocktail or two. great menu that doesnt change unnecessarily. fig pizza a must and solid wait staff. look forward to susan's new spot areal sleeper for a great cheeseburger and very nice wood fired pizzas. cant miss on either
Fantastic food and for the price one of the best deals in town. No matter what the soup of the day is get it. Open fire pizza oven just adds to an already good atmosphere. Will be back as often as I can. I give it a 5 because that is as high as it goes.

Delicious food. I love that they are always changing the menu. This is one of the better restaurants in Lakeview. We usually get to go but have dined in a few times.
Lakeview girl here and have been going to Mondo for years. Love that Lakeview has upscale and classy. My visit last week was as good as ever. Pisco cocktail was great - the first time I've seen Pisco outside of trips to NYC which is nice. My table had the special pasta, peppers, pate, burger, pear and teleme pizza among other things. All were delicious. The special pasta was an appetizer size but I had it as my main and the richness of the dish allowed for that. The pizza was perfect and something I could eat again and again with no complaints. Will absolutely return.
Lamb. Fall off the bone delicious!
Adequate but not Stellar. This was a decent quality burger, and the flavor of the cheese and onions were very good. This is one of those cheffy burgers that leaves you feeling overwhelmed with fat; the meat might have been fine on its own, but there was a greasy feeling (butter?) on the top of the bun that it was too rich of an experience. The fries were fantastic though.
Great Casual Spot in Lakeview. If you feel like getting out of the city center for a fine meal in a casual atmosphere, I recommend this spot, which was recommended to me by a restaurateur friend. We arrived toward the end of their seating for a Monday night, but no one was anything less than hospitable. We began with devilled eggs (don't bother), ceviche (superb!) and gumbo (so-so), but we were very pleased when the stars of the evenings were our entrees: a hake fish-of-the-day with asparagus for my friend Pierre and a pork shoulder with black beans pour moi. Both were excellent. I loved the simplicity of the black beans with the rich, well-cooked, properly seasoned pork shoulder. The wines were acceptable. The waitress was perfect: very hospitable and handled all my pesky questions and requests with aplomb. We decided we had to try the house-made espresso and zinfandel ice cream (good but mostly just an experiment for us) and the limoncello and a California port that was very tasty (I found the limoncello slightly too sweet). We had a very nice evening when we didn't feel like dressing up for the downtown spots. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Ate a late lunch so restaurant was not crowded and mood was very relaxed. There was not a single thing on the menu that didn't look like a yummy adventure but I finally settled on a Cuban sandwich with a watermelon soup. It was as good as I hoped it would be. My wife had fish tacos which were served with an apple/carrot/onion/cilantro salad which were spectacular. My son had a pizza fired in their brick oven which definitely hit the spot. Overall it was a great experience.
Cons: expensive, but it's a high quality place.
Neutral: small bathrooms.
Pro:
the waiter Kevin, he knows his beer and the menu well. A personable and friendly waiter, with some great dreadlocks. (Pictured)
Pictured: Potato leek soup with pork shoulder. Utterly fabulous, rich and creamy with a great flavor, and a fabulous starter.
Pork shoulder on black beans. Spicy, smoky, and utterly delicious. The pork was slightly dry, but hardly a problem with the beans and the sauces. This was a fabulous dish.
And desert: the "Persian Love cake" rich, well flavored, and marveously carmelized. Everything about this dish worked, and it was truly fabulous. The mint harnish on top made a great palate cleaner but didn't do much aromatically since the figs and pistachios took the forefront on that.
Eat here but be prepared to spend.
Dietary note: call ahead for gluten free, they can accommodate, but it is easier with notice.
Amazing! I rarely review, but just had to this time. As I sit here enjoying the braised beef short rib I'm hard pressed to think of anything I've ever eaten that tastes better. EVER! Just wow. You have to try it!
Amazing Good!!! First time here and enjoyed every minute of it!!! Fish Tacos and Brisket were to die for!!! Great prices, great atmosphere!! Will definitely be back!!!
I love a good pork shoulder and this one was fantastic. The meatball appetizer was delicious as well.
Love Mondo alone with my wife or the family. Our daughters take over the pizza bar with grand enthusiasm. Every Chef working the oven has been wonderful to the girls and created some great experiences for them. The menu is great and relaxed, the hanger steak is always good and you can never go wrong with the fish.
The food is consistently good. They have a large Woodfire Pizza Oven. It's a nice Hideaway that is surprisingly large.
Lost a star due to the dinner being slow. We were seated right at 5:30 with no others in the dining room until after our order was taken. Even then there was only one other table of four. Appetizers came out quick but the wait for the entrees was too long. Thankfully, the food was good.
I've been to Mondo several times. I've never had a bad meal there. One of our guests tonight was a vegan and the chef put together a wonderful vegetable plate for her. I had the ceviche and the burger and both were excellent!
Hands down.. one of the best places I've eaten in Louisiana. It was super busy, but Our server was a sweetheart and was very patient when I couldn't make up my mind. First off... ORDER THE PIZZA. We chose that as an appetizer and I was so mad I wasnt able to eat it all! Next... the burger. It was seasoned well. Cooked well. Best burger I've had. A must try place!
We've always had good experiences at Mondo and tonight was no different. Our server, Kyle, was kind, professional and attentive. We ordered the bouillabaisse, which was perfectly fresh and flavorful, and a couple of wood fired pizzas. LOVE that the kids get to make their own pizza. Mondo is a local favorite for good reason.
