One of my favorite spots. Always make it a point to have at least one meal when in town. Great food, great prices and great service.
This is one of my favorite stops when I’m in New Orleans. The food is delicious and so well priced. 100% recommend !
On Christmas Day, my family and I had the opportunity to dine at Cafe Maspero, and it turned out to be a cozy and enjoyable experience. We were initially greeted with a brief wait outside, about 15 minutes, which was a bit puzzling given the visible empty tables inside. However, once we were seated, the service was notably quick, especially considering the holiday.
Our meal began with the kids’ pancake - a simple, well-prepared dish consisting of one pancake, two slices of bacon, and orange juice. It was a hit with the kids. Adding to our experience was the fried alligator, which had a unique, chewy texture, quite typical of alligator meat.
We also tried the pasta jambalaya, which was a tad greasy and not as spicy as we had hoped, but still a decent dish overall. The fried shrimp salad came with Italian dressing, and although the lettuce was slightly dry, the shrimp itself was tasty. The highlight for me was the muffaletta served on a roll. The protein was perfectly crispy, and while it was a bit salty, it was delicious and in line with the expected flavors of the ingredients.
To complement our meal, we had a Bloody Mary, which was just as one would expect - perfectly mixed and flavorful.
Cafe Maspero offered a warm and welcoming atmosphere, especially appreciated on a holiday when most places were closed. The quick service and good quality food made our experience quite pleasant. It’s a great choice for anyone looking for a casual dining spot with a variety of options.
The Cafe Maspero serves breakfast all day and has a wide variety of other locally popular dishes on their menu. The atmosphere is very casual and you can definitely come as you are. The food is good, not fancy at all but good comfort type food. The service is very good with friendly servers and fairly quick service. For a casual dining experience and quick in and out, without reservations, this is a good option.
A solid choice in the French Quarter if you are looking for a quick bite. This place hits every New Orleans delicacy. Love that they offer so many sampler platter options so you can try a bunch of things. I had the etoufee-gumbo-jambalaya and it was great. And my daughter even bravely tried to alligator.
I had the best time with my sister there. We tried the manager's new recipe for the bread pudding, and let me tell you, that was one delicious bread pudding. Hopefully, it's on the menu soon. You guys have got to try this!! My server Essence was amazing, such a great spirit & so sweet & funny! Oh & the muffaletta sandwich was GREAT!!
Great food. Great service. We had the best waiter. Shrimp Po boy and alligator bits tasted fresh and well done. Kids grilled cheese was nothing special but the fries were great. Chicken parmesean was good too.
This was the best food I had in all of New Orleans! I had the taste of cafe maspero and I want the recipes, each of the four items were so good! I was expecting to not like at least one but each was better than the next. My only suggestion would be fresher bread and a warning that you’ll want to come back every night.
Please send me the recipes for these items! Haha
Highly recommend! Bloody Mary’s are one of the best in the Quarter. I had the Crawfish Cake Eggs Benedict and it made my top ten favorite foods list! My husband had the Muffaletta!
I went here on a Friday afternoon and it was pretty empty, only 5 other tables or so besides mine had people. This meant we were able to be seated and served right away. We heard their po boys were great from the podcast “Beyond Bourbon Street” so that’s what we got. We both ordered the fried shrimp po boy. Wow was it delicious! The flavor of the shrimp was amazing and they do NOT skimp out, they absolutely loaded our po boys up with shrimp. It came with the exact type of fries I love - the ones that have a sort of coating and are very crispy. I made a ketchup/mayo dipping sauce that I dipped the sandwich and fries in. I highly recommend doing that. Our server was friendly and efficient. The person who seated us was a bit rude, hence 4 stars for atmosphere.
If you’re looking for a place with great po boys, I recommend checking this place out.
Every time we’re in NOLA, we have to stop in here. The food is delicious with lots of great options including samplers. Our favorites are the muffuletta, étouffée, and jambalaya. Also, take advantage of the bottomless mimosas. Service is always good and it’s a cute welcoming restaurant. Love when they open the patio doors so you can enjoy the weather and people watch.
Food was very good all around. Service was fine but our waitress did get very busy and seemed to forget about us towards the end of our visit as we waited a very long time to get our checks.
