Surrey's was one of my last meals in New Orleans. And for my last meals, I knew I wanted to get some shrimp and grits - one of my ultimate favorite meals. This restaurant is known for being fun and funky. Surrey's is an eclectic and funky Cafe and Juice Bar with two convenient locations on historic Magazine Street in New Orleans.  Our sweet and savory menu specializes in local food items with a hint of latin flavor.

Surrey’s is by far one of my favorite breakfast places in the country! The atmosphere is very neat! The food is where it is at ! The shrimp and grits are off the hook not to mention the French toast ! Me and my husband never forget to stop here every time we are in NOLA!! If you are looking for a fantastic breakfast you need to make sure to stop here !

We went on a Sunday, so of course it was packed, but they did a great job at getting us seated quickly. It's a very chill and laid back atmosphere, with a creative menu to follow. The food came quickly and was absolutely delicious. The only thing that I would recommend would be to use their fresh juices for MIMOSA's. 😋😋😋 I recommend the Bananas Foster French Toast (share when possible so that you can pick something else wonderful on the menu. I would also recommend the Crab Meat Omelet, Costarican Breakfast, and the Shrimp and Grits.

It's a tiny little joint right on Magazine Street (cute) that I accidentally stumbled upon one day. Turned out to be the best grits I have EVER had! Seriously! The BEST! You HAVE to give them a try.

I went here and ordered a breakfast burrito with no bacon and omg I was not disappointed. I ended up splitting the burrito with my boyfriend because it was massive and neither of us could eat a whole one by ourselves. The service was a bit slow, and the venue is a little small, but everyone was super friendly and there was some awesome art on the walls!

A longtime Garden District favorite – certainly not the sort of place one will find teaming with European Tourists in the French Quarter – Surrey’s Café and Juice Bar is one of those kitschy places with fun decorations and a unique menu where service comes with a smile, the waits sometimes quite long given the limitations of the space, but the experience making it worthwhile.

Located at 1418 Magazine Street and blending in so effortlessly with surrounding homes that it is barely noticed from the sidewalk to passers-by, Surrey’s Café approaches New Orleans classics with a Latin Spin alongside a lengthy menu of seasonal fresh squeezed Juices, the seating somewhat tight yet somehow seeming appropriate as the walls are given splashes of color by vibrant depictions of nearby architecture made by a local artist.

Described a few daily specials by the server, a man circulating to fill both Coffee and Water also providing some advice of his own, it was with tough choices made that three plates were selected while taking a pass on the juices, though the ones that were ordered at neighboring tables did look refreshing with no lack of choices including everything from Orange to Apple, Carrot and Watermelon.

Waiting perhaps ten minutes for food, the quoted time for a two-top approximately twenty minutes at 8:20am on a Monday, suffice it to say that housemade Boudin on a Buttermilk Biscuit with Scrambled Eggs presented a significant upgrade on the typical “breakfast Sandwich” ordered at the Drive-Thru, a moist Pumpkin Pancake thick and rich with Cinnamon also proving to be good despite the lack of pure Maple Syrup while the Creole Cream Cheese stuffed triangles of French Bread were pudding-soft beneath the pan seared exterior and plenty sweetened by the Rum flamed and fruity Sauce.

I stopped a bit early at Surrey's cafe, another of the 10 or so DDD in the New Orleans area. Surrey's is a breakfast/lunch juice bar. The menu items include some of the standard fare for both meals plus a few choices with a Latin flare.

The place is rustic or run-down depending on what side of the foodie line you stand on. You know what I mean... wobbly tables on an uneven floor with mismatched chairs and confusing art on the wall. That said, the waitstaff was attentive and the dude was quick to recommend a few of his favorites. He talked me into the $11 corned beef hash. The spin was the addition of both boudin and andouille sausage. It was a delicious and hearty portion which I finished off with a few liberal splashes of hot sauce.

In the end, Surrey's is your cookie-cutter hipster breakfast joint characterized by a seemingly necessary shottiness. In this case, there is a Latino flare added...kind of like Corona's as opposed to Cora's. Decent food and a decent vibe providing you go at off-peak times. Otherwise, you'll be waiting a while.

Alright so in my last morning in New Orleans, and I've taken a stroll along Magazine St. to take some shots and then down to Surrey's Cafe & Juice Bar (for a plate of Shrimp & Grits!)

...

Ok so, this thing arrives and it's a steaming bowl of Sautéed Louisiana Gulf shrimp smothered in a New Orleans-style BBQ sauce over a bowl of grits. Then garnished with bacon, spring onions and some French bread croutons. Now before you all jump to conclusions here folks, let me remind you that this is not your typical BBQ sauce (which by the way I can think of very few things that would go worse on shrimp. Yuk!). This is Louisiana! And this so called “BBQ sauce” is actually just some Cajun seasonings, S&P, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce and -in a very much French-inspired kinda way- a whole lot of butter!!!

(… the Tabasco is optional… Yeah, right!)

I'll be back!

On the last morning of the trip to New Orleans, Paul and I woke up with such an aggressive food hangover that the thought of another heavy meal made us both a bit squeamish. With no real plans for our last few hours, I googled “juice” and we set off on Magazine Street for a walk in the sunshine. At this point, we were seeking anything green.

Small space but such great vibes. You just know the food is going to be amazing with how kind everyone is and even with a short wait, the staff made us feel comfortable and kept us informed the whole time. The art work inside is fun and vibrant and the food is simple but so flavorful and delicious. My friends and I stumbled on this place while walking in the area and with how great the reviews were and people leaving saying how great is was and that we HAVE to go in, we took their advice. We still talk about the French toast.

Delicious small breakfast spot, very popular we had a 15 minute wait when we arrived. Food was absolutely delicious, juice was fresh squeezed and fantastic, and the coffee was rich and fresh. Walls are covered in local art which is really cool, staff are kind and polite and the food came out very fast. Highly recommend the home fries, the seasoning is phenomenal.

We stopped in one morning for breakfast and had about a 20 minute wait which wasn't too bad. Once seated, we seemed to have multiple waitresses and no one consistently. I got the bananas foster french toast and it was good but it was also VERY sweet. The banana cream that was stuff inside was very overpowering, to me. My wife got the egg plate and I think she enjoyed hers more than I did.

Shrimp and grits, must have! The seasoning was perfect for our visit. The banana foster french toast was much lighter than expected. The servers and hostess were very punctual. We were quoted 20 minute wait on a Saturday morning (arriving about 10am) and were seated exactly then!

This became my favorite spot for breakfast in New Orleans. Everything was delicious. I had the crab meat omelette with a side of boudin patties. It was phenomenal. The staff was very friendly and prices were reasonable. Definitely returning here on my next visit to NOLA.

The ONLY con is this place isn’t open seven days a week. The vibe is reminds me of an intimate island home with inspired decor and artwork posted for sale throughout. The food is delicious and our experience is top tier every time. The dishes are equally unique and classic. We had the breakfast migas, shrimp & grits, and the banana foster french toast.

My Lord, believe the hype regarding the banana foster! Order this dish immediately! My friend said the shrimp and grits were delicious as well. Service was quick and the fresh juice was superb.

Wonderful Brunch Spot with tasty food! I recently had an amazing experience at Surrey’s Cafe! The atmosphere was warm and friendly, giving it a nice local feel. The Banana's Foster French Toast was simply outstanding! It was the perfect combination of flavors, with caramelized bananas and a delightful syrup. Every bite was a delight, and I highly recommend trying it. The coffee was also excellent - just the way I like it. It was the perfect accompaniment to my meal and added to the overall enjoyable experience. I built my own omelette with chorizo, cheddar cheese, mushroom, and onion, and it was absolutely delicious. The omelette was cooked to perfection, and the combination of ingredients was a taste sensation. I thoroughly enjoyed every bite. Overall, this restaurant offers a wonderful brunch experience. The food is tasty, the coffee is great, and the atmosphere is friendly. If you're in the mood for a delicious brunch, this is the place to go. You won't be disappointed!

10/10 I would most definitely recommend! I ordered the banana foster french toast *chef kiss* is was sooo delicious. I also got a side of cheese grits, they were really good too. I wish they had a meat option for people who don’t eat beef or pork, like turkey bacon or chicken sausage. That would be my only criticism though I will definitely be back to try more options on their menu! Our hostess and waitress was so polite and accommodating even though it was packed. There is limited seating so it would not be a good idea to go with a big group. There is free street parking in the area which was nice.

Surrey's Cafe may be our new breakfast spot on our way out of town from a weekend in NOLA. The service was excellent and it wasn't overly crowded like you might suspect on a Sunday at 10:00am. I enjoyed my Migas with Chorizo, with cheese grits and a biscuit (I ordered a side of sausage gravy for the biscuit). My girlfriend had the Costa Rican breakfast with black beans added (I feel like it should be served with black beans instead of charging $3 for the addition). Also, we shared the Pain Perdu which was so damn good.
