This place is the neighborhood hole in the wall everyone needs to try. The lady behind the counter was friendly and quick to refill our sweet teas(which was a true southern sweet tea!) and helped us with recommendations. Everything we got was fried perfectly light and crispy and tasted so fresh. There's only an ordering counter and a few small tables but absolutely worth stopping in on. Get extra tartar sauce because between the two of us my boyfriend and I went through almost half a bottle! Definitely reccomend the Cole slaw and the crab cakes.
We went in for a clam dinner and fresh fish and was not disappointed loved our sides loved our fries, quick service, and everything was cooked fresh!!
Great food. Tried pan fried oysters, crab cakes, and white fish. Green tomatoes too. Awesome service.
This restaurant was absolutely phenomal. Owner was as nice as could be even though we got off on the wrong foot because I had an attitude about expecting a place to sit down and be waited on. Big mistake on my part. I will gladly come in here next time I am in Louisville and order my food at the counter with a smile on my face. I had a rolled oyster that was heaven in a roll and a catfish sandwich that was to die for. My girlfriend had the chicken tenders and French fries and she loved her food too. Last but definitely not least he has the best potato salad I have ever eaten in my life. If you come to downtown Louisville and don't stop here to eat you will never know what you are missing. Congratulations on being in business for 30 years! You definitely know what you are doing.
I wish I tried this place years ago! It's a lovely, cozy spot, very friendly, and the fish tastes great. I also loved the hush puppy, it tasted exactly the way I feel a hush puppy should taste. If, like me, you grew up going to fish fries and fish special nights at the local diner, I think you'll really like this place.
I've been stopping here for years while traveling for work from Northern Kentucky. I've had just about everything on the menu and have never been disappointed. I typically pack my lunch while on the road but when I don't, places like Hill Steet Fish Fry are what I seek out. Support your non chain local restaurants. Thanks for another perfect lunch.
Clams, white fish, seasoned fries, and coleslaw were delicious. Great atmosphere.
Literally the best.. I love the homemade tarter sauce! The fish is so good perfectly fried and crispy outside. For $8 you get fries and a drink with a sandwich! It's not flashy not advertised but a locals known best fish in the city!
I consider the fish and other seafood here the best of Louisville. The prices are reasonable. The restaurant itself is not very big, there is some seating but most people do carryout. You will enjoy the food at Hill Street Fish Fry. A+++
You will love the fish that is cooked up for you here by employees who feel like your friends as soon as you walk in the door. It is excellent. There are several options on the menu but my favorite is the 2 piece white cod with cole slaw and fries. A great little neighborhood institution being in business for nearly 25 year's with the same owner. Give this little fish fry a try and you will not be disappointed.
